The stunning skirting boards

Shopping for skirting boards this morning and the bloke in the shop showed us this beading that you put on top of the floor and up to the skirting boards.

He said “have you thought about using these? They look stunning when done against skirting boards”

Stunning. As anyone ever been stunned by someone else’s skirting boards?

YABU - yes, I have on occasion gone into someone’s house and almost fainted at their amazing skirting boards

YANBU - no, it was a stupid thing to say and you’re right to still be annoyed about it hours later

I think some skirting can be stunning, so I agree with him on that front!

Could we add genius and legend/legendary to the list. My dad is a man for stunning mundanities, too. An Aldi frozen fish dish was exquisite the other day, could sell skirting boards to the Borrowers with that patter.

He’s got some balls to say that about beading which often looks crap. (I have some in my house… I hoped I’d get used to it but it still looks shit to me)

Yeah beading that goes up to skirting like this is just to cover a bodged job basically.
If you do half a job and don’t remove the skirting when you have a new floor put down it will have an expansion gap and the beading is to cover that.
It always looks incredibly shit.

Have you looked at estate agent details recently… every house is “stunning” “exceptional” “magnificent” … these are terraced houses with 10 others just like them next door.

Stunning has been diluted and now just means “looks quite nice”.

Yeah the beading looks shit anyway and first time we had it installed it was broken before the guys even left. There was a second time because we needed flooring quick and there’s only one local option and they’re beading fans. Looks tacky and it a dust trap. Ugh!

The beading is because they’re not doing the proper job of removing the existing skirting before laying the floor…

YABU because I have seen beautiful (period) skirting, but YANBU in that it won’t have beading on it!
