Just that really.
£100 for a machine which I need to buy the hot chocolate for.
Is it really that special?
My eldests birthday in a couple of weeks who likes hot chocolate and is hard to buy for, but would it be money well spent?
Views please 🤞🏻

My DS loves hot chocolate from the velvetiser. I got it for my birthday. We just use normal options choc and it's delicious. I use it more for coffee latte, iced coffee etc.

Dijoduo · 12/02/2023 13:20

I adore my velvetiser. The sachets are expensive but we just don’t use the official sachets - it’s just chocolate, use whatever chocolate you like. It’s definitely worth the money.

CoachBeard · 12/02/2023 13:45

My son got a Dualit milk frother for Christmas and uses it every day. As far as I can tell from my friend’s machine, it is identical inside to the Velvetiser but the exterior is less sexy.

imnottoofussed · 12/02/2023 13:47

@TeenDivided ok that's good then I just thought I had seen people saying it made it frothy

NeedNwJeans · 12/02/2023 13:48

Yabu. If you're not into hot chocolate you may not appreciate it. But people that like HC... I bought one for DH and he really enjoys it. You can use normal choc powder in it as well. It makes nicd frothy milk, so i occasionally make a nice latte for myself.

Alwaysthebridesmaidpassmethewine · 13/02/2023 11:16

Wow thanks all.
I didn't get any notifications so didn't think I had any replies, just came on here to bump 🤣.
Thanks for your input and suggestions 👍🏻.

Chocolate is already sexy enough 😂.

I was eyeing these up in Hotel Chocolat yesterday. The copper one looks great but I couldn't bring myself to pay 100 quid for one.

I'm not reading 5 pages of talk about a hot chocolate maker to check, but in case you don't know you can buy it for £70 with 2 cups.

And the following place sells extremely nice hot chocolate which I find better value than the hotel chocolate stuff.

Thank you just loaded them onto my shopping list of companies.

If you are just using milk then it froths, adding the chocolate stops the frothing quite a bit, using different types of milk (including vegan) can also change the level of froth with something high in fat being better if you want a decent head 😆

EsmeSusanOgg · 13/02/2023 15:23

They regularly have offers that brings it down to £70. We got one for Christmas from my parents. It really is great. You can also put cheap chocolate powder in it... And it comes out tasting great.

D20 · 13/02/2023 15:24

I bought one for DD Christmas before covid using a code I got on here actually and it has been used so much. Younger DD was confident to use it and no risk of scalding. I’ve also bought one as a gift and would replace ours if it broke.

We got one at Xmas and I personally dont find it that easy to clean. The whisk part especially often has chocolate or scum on the black part that I have to scrub with a small bottle brush. Also I don't find it particularly frothy. Maybe mines faulty? Can anyone post a picture of their hot chocolate straight from the machine?

Try full fat milk and fill just under the fill line and see if you get a better result.

What's wrong with Cadbury's hot chocolate powered and a kettle (with milk).

Nothing, but the velvetiser is another level. Silky smooth and the chocolate stays in the milk to the last sip, there is no having to swill it round the mug towards the bottom. Ours gets used 2 or 3 times a week for hot chocolate for the 2 of us. And DH uses it for milk for lattes if he's working from home.

montessorinanny · 13/02/2023 16:00

I have one and adore it. I have had mine since they first came out so a good number of years now and it is still going strong. For me it has been well worth the price I paid for it.

imnottoofussed · 13/02/2023 16:16

Ok so I've frothed just milk in it today to pour into coffee granules. The recipient had to spoon the froth in once they got near to drinking it all 😂 I wish it frothed the chocolate flakes like that.

Mumsafan · 13/02/2023 16:19

We love ours - had it a couple of years. This Christmas we bought my mother one and DS1 (got them cheaper as had joined the club thingy).

IrritableCowSyndrome · 13/02/2023 16:20

We've been skiing in Italy a few times and the hot chocolate they sell in the bars on the slopes are to die for!

If I knew that a hot chocolate from a Velvetiser tasted the same then I'd definitely buy one!!!!

SirVixofVixHall · 13/02/2023 16:24

I have one. I was lucky to be chosen for the mumsnet trial so mine was free, but I love it so much that I then bought one for my close friend.
I use it most days, I make frothy milk in it for my coffee in the morning, then DH usually has a mid morning hot chocolate, and later dd often has one after school and I sometimes have one in the evening.
I use all sorts of chocolate in it as we often get given hot chocolate as a gift, but the HC ones are really delicious and have my favourite flavour.
I will definitely buy another when this wears out, I love it !

Hollyhocksandlarkspur · 13/02/2023 16:26

DD has copper HC one, uses it constantly and loves it. Highly recommend as present will be well used when friends come round too.

Jules912 · 13/02/2023 16:30

I got one as a gift and love it ( apart from when I have to wash it). It's best with the sachets but you can use any hot chocolate powder.

Cadbury's powder tastes like pure sugar, and like it's from a catering tent at a School Fayre. Velvetiser servings taste like it's from a posh café.

CurlyGirlMumma · 13/02/2023 17:13

Its amazing. Love ours. Though we get the chocolate from somewhere else. Wholesale in big bags. It's cheaper but not cheap. Best hot chocolates I've ever had 🤤

Honestly I've rarely had one out since as they just aren't as good,

CurlyGirlMumma · 13/02/2023 17:14

plumduck · 12/02/2023 07:42

Can it go in a dishwasher?

No.
