Just that really.
£100 for a machine which I need to buy the hot chocolate for.
Is it really that special?
My eldests birthday in a couple of weeks who likes hot chocolate and is hard to buy for, but would it be money well spent?
Views please 🤞🏻

They never get the hot enough so it’s warm chocolate. Vile.

I just heat milk and chocolate up on the stove and whisk. Takes less time and is just as good and actually HOT.

Willyoujustbequiet · 12/02/2023 09:10

Its bloody brilliant. Best hot chocolate ever and so quick and easy. I adore mine.

Love the hazlenut praline sachets and it does lattes too. I will never go back to the hob/microwave.

Another one gifted it here. Wouldn't have bought it myself but it does get enough use here. DS loves their hot choc but we only allow a max of one a week as a treat as their hot choc is rich and expensive. DH has a chai drink from elsewhere which comes out very nice and he prefers that to heating it on the job or in the microwave. I have ordinary hot choc powder in it. DD prefers ordinary hot choc powder drinks with milk nuked in microwave.

@euff can I ask what the chai drink is that your dh has? It sounds right up my street. Thank you 😊

RipWheelersHat · 12/02/2023 09:21

I was also gifted one and never would have spent that much on one myself. It does make lovely hot chocolate, however I don’t only use the HC sachets. I have chopped up various things like dairy milk, galaxy, chocolate orange etc and made some really nice ones

pizzaHeart · 12/02/2023 09:21

I tried it at Hotel chocolate cafe. It’s nice but nothing special, we have a place in town which makes much better chocolate and I do nice one myself using grated chocolate.
I wouldn’t buy it.

Namechangedone · 12/02/2023 09:25

I love mine! It gets used at least twice a day. We use it for coffee, I have a bean to cup machine, and together they make a better coffee than any coffee shop! DD loves it for hot chocolate as well.
I got it as a gift but would replace it straight away if it stopped working.

Livinghappy · 12/02/2023 09:25

@LemonSqueezy0, Never thought to make coffee. Just checking, you mix coffee & milk and the boil water separately and then mix?

Livinghappy · 12/02/2023 09:27

Op, I would say it's not worth £100 but seems to last and hot chocolate is fairly decent.

ginislife · 12/02/2023 09:28

Now look what you made me do !!! I only went on the website to look what the fuss was about - and ended up buying one for £50 if you then also had a 12 month subscription for a box of sachets. We drink a lot of hot chocolate so with it in this house. I did get a 10% off code as well so feel free to use it i.soreto.com/hotelchocolat/y/N1rU1oWp6

We got one as a gift a few years ago and I expected it to be consigned to the cupboard of weird electricals after a few weeks of overdosing on overpriced hot chocolate. To my surprise it has been used almost every day. My DS makes hot chocolate with Nesquick and my DD makes mochas, so while it is expensive it has been excellent value for money. It looks great and is easy to clean, so if you wanted to give someone who loves hot chocolate a really special treat that you know they would love and use then I can definitely recommend it.

mrsbyers · 12/02/2023 09:31

Another vote for Amazon milk heater and frother , that’s all the velvitiser is just three times more expensive

euff · 12/02/2023 09:43

@Georgieporgie29 it's Royal Chai, Kashmiri Pink Chai. We get it in a local Sri Lankan shop which also has stuff from Pakistani/ Indian brands etc. Tea for DH does not usually mean instant or tea bag but he is happy with this. He has a sweet tooth and has the sweetened version but I like the unsweetened. He will also chop a few pistachios and add to the top. I know some of the main supermarkets now have some chai's but we haven't tried any yet so can't recommend.

I put my coffee powder, a bit of flavoured syrup and milk to cover the bottom part into the velvetiser.. I also add my powdered collagen... The I have a one touch boil machine (also from marketplace!) and do a small cup of hot water while the velvetiser works. Then pour the mixture into the hot water. Lovely frothy coffee 😊 you don't have to add the hot water, but I do it as I have huge cups and it's still very tasty not being pure milk. Definitely feel like more of a treat coffee. You can also make that mixture and pour a bit on everyone's coffee if making a round...

42isthemeaning · 12/02/2023 09:46

It's great! I make lattes in it and it's easy to clean - takes less than a minute. I only buy the proper sachets a couple of times a year. I've grated Lidl dark chocolate instead and it was lovely! I was given mine as a gift, but we've often seen them cheaper on special deals.

Always4Brenner · 12/02/2023 09:48

hot chocolate is one of my treats if I indulged I’d need a simple no messing about one that uses normal Cadbury hot chocolate powered and for special occasions birthday Christmas I’d buy luxury sachets. Washing up doesn’t bother me I hand wash any way.

boxingdayswim · 12/02/2023 09:49

We have one and love it- you can use powder in it and it makes a lovely coffee too. It's worth it - and a lovely gift!

AnthonyTheTurtle · 12/02/2023 09:50

I love mine. You can use any hot choc. I always warm the cup first as I like it a bit hotter than “ready to drink” temp.

Ponoka7 · 12/02/2023 09:53

Me and my eldest think it's one of the best things we've bought. I sometimes do mine twice or put it in a pan while I'm doing hers because I like mine hotter. We use the flavoured syrups and Baileys in our hot chocolate. The coffee range is nice as well. My middle DD uses a milk frother for hers and it isn't quite the same. I like that the HC packaging is all recyclable as well.

Always4Brenner · 12/02/2023 09:56

Akite · 12/02/2023 07:25

We have a hot chocolate maker from Amazon which was half the price and it's brilliant and used all the time. Wouldn't have paid for the HC one. Ours can do enough for 3 drinks at once, I didn't want a piddly little one. And the jug can go in the dishwasher.
its a bit like this one : Amazon milk frother

I’ve decided one of those I think look great and the cold feature for summer looks great.

imnottoofussed · 12/02/2023 09:57

We got one at Xmas and I personally dont find it that easy to clean. The whisk part especially often has chocolate or scum on the black part that I have to scrub with a small bottle brush. Also I don't find it particularly frothy. Maybe mines faulty? Can anyone post a picture of their hot chocolate straight from the machine?

FourFour · 12/02/2023 10:05

I got one for ds because he loves hot chocolates and I wish I bought it sooner. It is absolutely divine. We have one each every day. The sachets are expensive but you can also use normal hot choc as well.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2023 10:06

I got one as a tester via MN a year or so ago. If I was buying one if would have got one of the ones that did a proper cold drink too.

I don't think the Velvetiser is worth it's price tag.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2023 10:08

Mine doesn't clean easily either. You have to wash it under the tap which isn't great given it's the whole thing. Running it on a "cleaning cycle" doesn't work, it leaves smears on the bottom.

Beautiful3 · 12/02/2023 10:12

My friend recently bought one. She's not the kind of person to spend that much on kitchen equipment. She had tried a hot chocolate in a hotel chocolat cafe, said it was the best she'd ever had. She uses it regularly and still raves about it.

autumnboys · 12/02/2023 10:13

We have one. You can put powder into it, or Callebout pellets, or grated chocolate bars. We buy the HC powder in bags rather than sachets which is slightly better value.

it was a lockdown splurge, I’m sure there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good (and actually make a hot-hot chocolate!)
