Just that really.
£100 for a machine which I need to buy the hot chocolate for.
Is it really that special?
My eldests birthday in a couple of weeks who likes hot chocolate and is hard to buy for, but would it be money well spent?
Views please 🤞🏻

I have one, I use it for frothed milk for coffee as well as hot chocolate, I love it

It’s surely no different to paying for a coffee machine? My manual coffee grinder doesn’t costs much less and I would not be without it.

Although I like the ritual of making hot chocolate, with actual solid chocolate, in a saucepan, with a whisk, so I wouldn’t care much for a velvetiser.

Crumpledstilstkin · 13/02/2023 17:32

I really like it but definitely wouldn't spend £100 on it. They have so many special offers you don't need to. Ditto flakes, just buy charbonnel ones if you're feeling fancy. Personally I think mine took about a year to pay for itself in comparison to buying hot chocolate out which I admittedly spent a fortune on before.

Those comparing to dualit frothers, they're both made by dualit and it's just a magnetic stirrer with heating. It's like buying a seat Leon or a VW golf - the finishes are different but the functionality is the same.

Ready fancy a hot chocolate now 😂

Highlighta · 13/02/2023 17:42

I didn't realise that hot chocolate gets taken so seriously 😀

But I do live in a hot climate country so we possibly are not a target market.

I don't mind nice hot chocolate every now and then , so I wouldn't go out and buy a gadget especially for the job. BUT... You have me all thinking here now.

I have an aerochino attachment for my Nespresso machine. I have only ever frothed milk in it. Surely this works similar to some of these mentioned?. So I'm wondering if it's worth a go to put some chocolate in with the milk on the heat setting.

Anyone else used their aerochino for this?

I thought I'd ask before I try it, just incase.

(Now I am wondering why I never thought of it before )

TheTeenageYears · 14/02/2023 02:09

@Highlighta I also live in a hot country but hot chocolate is still very serious business for me :) IME the aerochino is one up from making hot chocolate in a microwave or hob but no where near as good as my preferred milk frother. It doesn't get hot enough and you can't put it on a second time plus unless you use the whisk bit and can therefore only use the smallest amount of milk it's very flat - barely any froth and definitely not velvety.

ginislife · 18/02/2023 21:12

So, it arrived 2 days ago. We've lived on hot chocolate ! It really does change the taste and consistency. Worth every penny so far - and so easy to clean

AnneShirleysNewDress · 18/02/2023 21:21

I got one for my birthday and I love it. I use Charbonnel flakes in it which work well. The hot chocolate is amazing.

Always4Brenner · 19/02/2023 12:28

Really tempted by one now.

What's wrong with Cadbury's hot chocolate powered and a kettle (with milk).

I wouldn't drink that.

gogohmm · 19/02/2023 12:42

Best chocolate drink is made with cocoa, sugar and full fat milk. Best made on the hob but microwave is a good second. All chocolate drinks seem inferior than the original

jamdan21 · 19/02/2023 12:44

I've just bought the Asda frother and made hot chocolate and it was lovely.

Sparklingbrook · 19/02/2023 12:51

The Velvetiser takes away all the faffing with watching saucepans and putting jugs in and out of the microwave. It does it all and velvetises the milk while you do nothing at all.
Its nothing like ones made yourself.

AdobeWanKenobi · 19/02/2023 13:01

I was one of those 'I've got a cheap Aldi/Amazon one and it's just as good!' posters a few years ago. Then DH bought me the Velvetiser.
It's a world away.

I believe it's made by Dualit, so aesthetics aside that one will be the same, the others not so much. You can usually pick them up around the £60 mark as has been said. Washing is as easy as running the machine with water and a squirt of washing up liquid.
