To think the adoration of Zelensky in the UK feels very wrong?

Exactly that. Why are UK politicians lapping it all up and hanging on to his every word? The laughter from MPs when he said he enjoyed English tea but now wants English planes… in what sense is that funny? He is wanting war planes to cause more bloodshed, death and destruction. I hope this doesn’t lead to Russian retaliation.

What nazi regime?

I'm not personally attacking you, just asking

Regime suggests that it's not a proper, democratically elected government of a sovereign state.

Or are you talking about something else

Santasjingleballs · 08/02/2023 23:13

@Cattenberg where you there to witness this? This comedian cosplaying as a president gets on my nerves with his constant demands.

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar
LOL

Behave yourself with that propaganda. can be picked apart in seconds, like it or not people are starting to see the reality.

Oooh you're coming out with the usual Russian shill lines ;)

Everyone here who isn't taking the Russian rouble knows exactly what you are. Even the ones who might genuinely disagree with supporting Ukraine to this degree can see what -you- are

@BohemianBoho Every one of your posts on this thread is utterly bonkers far-left nonsense. Where do you read these articles by the way, Russia Today?

Actually having read your further post I've changed my mind

Are you anti vax too? Love Assange? Deal in bitcoin?

The adoration of Zelensky is because he is stepping up for his country in a way we haven't seen for generations. There's nothing comparable kicking around on the planet.

His best for Ukraine is probably not altruistic. Why should it be? That's not his brief. If it had been Finland instead of Ukraine Putin took a fancy to, would Zelensky have been as generous in support as he is asking us to be? Or would he say, 'Hang on Finland. I'd rather give you a ride than ammo. We may need those tanks ourselves.' Probably. That's his job.

I think he's wrong about one thing. Russian language and Russian culture (arts) are worth having and worthy of respect. Turning away from them is playing Putin's game. If we want the influential levels of Russian society to turn on Putin and boot him out, then isolating them won't help us. We should be saying, 'Right, bring the ballets and the musicians back on tour. Meet some real Europeans. See what they think of you.' And the same with sports.

Of course we should support Ukraine. They've been invaded.

Of course Poland won't be next. That's propoganda for the masses.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:15

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar Of course it is reasonable for Ukraine to be allowed to be Ukraine! And of course the Russian atrocities you describe are unacceptable. Nevertheless, around half of the population of Ukraine are Russian speakers and when you tell schools to stop educating Russian speaking children in their native language you are effectively banning Russian language schooling. I can see how it came about, but I think it is a mistake.

PitYerTapOan · 08/02/2023 23:15

@Nagado no one knows what Putin is going to do next. That's how come he's stayed in power (and stayed alive) for the last couple of decades. You know those 'enemies of Putin ' you hear about, they're the ones who bought and plundered russian assets, who were shooting each other in the face as they were coming out of lunchtime restaurant sittings when Yeltsin was in office. And whatever else you think about him and Christ alone knows he is not a nice guy, he's kept them under watch and contained their damage. Which is some monumental feat of long term strategising. Zelensky, for him, is in the same ballpark. And when he took Crimea close to nine years ago it was the first move in that particular chess game. I don't know how it's going to end. But zelensky was a moron if he thought it would fall his way.

I would just like to point out that some of the pro Russian supporters on this thread have an ...interesting.. grasp of the usage of the English language.

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 08/02/2023 21:33

Yes.

He's very charming. He speaks well.

But my spidey-senses are tingling...I don't trust him an inch. Something is off. No evidence to back it up, just a feeling.

Totally agree with this.

Jonnywishbone · 08/02/2023 23:16

Autumnnewname · 08/02/2023 22:58

I'm confused.

I didn't realise Ukraine was a satellite state of russia, and had to do what they were told

FFS. It's like clockwork

The barbarians propoganda projects ALWAYS crank up when zelensky gets attention. It's pathetic.

Have we had "shelling the Donbas for 8 years" yet Hmm

I think not joining NATO was the only issue on the table. That wasn't in Ukraine's control anyway that was a gift of NATO members. If we hadn't encouraged Ukraine with the false idea that they would be able to join NATO their country wouldn't be at war. Even worse when it came to it, and they were invaded NATO members didn't support them! Almost a year for tanks! It was a false hope - NATO membership was not possible (if it was the article 5 guarantee would mean we would have NATO armies on the ground fighting Russia today). We dont, we misled Ukraine, we misled Russia and when it came to it we weren't prepared to commit troops. It's a foreign policy disaster which has pushed China and Russia closer together when we needed to isolate China.

@BohemianBoho while I agreed with you about arms dealers I don't agree with a lot of what you have written since.

You mean Oliver Stone. But you'd be better off reading some Timothy Snyder instead. Or some Makaym Eristavi.

Only one side is committing genocide here, and it isn't Ukraine.

2ManyPjs · 08/02/2023 23:19

@BohemianBoho

Who's Michael Stone?😂

It's pure pro Kremlin propaganda - totally discredited.

Your posts are hilarious.

tara66 · 08/02/2023 23:21

Ukraine is place 122 out of 180 on Transparency.org list of most corrupt countries in the world. Denmark is world's least corrupt - UK is 11th.
Russia is more corrupt than Ukraine at 136 out of 180.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:21

@Autumnnewname I think Boho is deranged. A shame as their initial comment about the win-win for arms dealers was pertinent. But everything else has been seriously weird.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:23

@tara66 Given the levels of corruption we saw over PPE contracts with Math Hancock's local publican picking up a multimillion pound contract for importing masks I can't help feeling that this list sets a very low bar!

@BohemianBoho Every one of your posts on this thread is utterly bonkers far-left nonsense. Where do you read these articles by the way, Russia Today?

It's a shill. There are unfortunately considerable Russian-funded propaganda farms; some of them are automated, eg on Twitter, some of them have real people.

There are characteristics you can look out for:

1 - no engagement with provable facts that have been independently assessed. When you counter their bonkers stuff with this evidence, they don't address it

2 - a significant inclination to push the rather ridiculous lines eg Nazi nonsense. From observation over the last 12 months it seems that Russia does not see Nazism as an evil that led to invasion over all of Europe and the Holocaust; it seems that Russia sees anyone who they dislike as 'Nazis' (Russia actually signed a peace treaty with the Nazis, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, until Hitler broke it en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov%E2%80%93Ribbentrop_Pact)

3 - vague claims when faced with evidence that "people are seeing through to reality"

4 - urging you "have you considered that... " and then something that's quietly anti-Western, without ever balancing that with what Russia has done (bearing in mind Chechnya, South Ossetia, Syria)

5 - a vague and illogical 'concern for the people of Ukraine' again without considering that the people of Ukraine would not be suffering if Russia hadn't invaded.

6 - No acknowledgement that Russia has called for the eradication of Ukrainian culture and people.

7- No acknowledgement of Russian war crimes

I must say, it's a complete mystery how a man who has made millions of Ukranians laugh their socks off in his previous role as a comedy actor is so well-liked. Do let me know if you ever find out why people seem to take to him...

A lot of British people voted for Johnson in 2019 because they thought he was funny, too.

It's not rational imo.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:24
