To think the adoration of Zelensky in the UK feels very wrong?

Exactly that. Why are UK politicians lapping it all up and hanging on to his every word? The laughter from MPs when he said he enjoyed English tea but now wants English planes… in what sense is that funny? He is wanting war planes to cause more bloodshed, death and destruction. I hope this doesn’t lead to Russian retaliation.

Anyone know?

impact on UK capability isn't the same as Soon we will be left with nothing to defend ourselves with.

How does the end result differ?

@Warriormum1 has posted links up thread that corroborate the point I'm making. The UK military in its current format is barely fit for purpose. Giving away a high proportion of key equipment and weaponry that cannot be replaced quickly, easily, or cheaply is certainly not going to help. Where does your certain knowledge that your assertions are correct come from? A patriotic (and hugely outdated) view of our fighting force? Most people actually in the military don't have your faith atm, but I suppose so long as you know it to be true then that's all that matters...

PitYerTapOan · 08/02/2023 23:26

@Jonnywishbone agree with you.

I also wonder if unofficially there was even more dripped zelenskys way. I mean I wonder if on the qt there was talk of a no fly zone. Because he was certainly quite insistent that it should happen, a year ago.

He might just have been politicking. But it's such an unlikely outcome that it's mad he should reference it at all.

When you live in a country that’s had six incompetent Prime Ministers in a row, meeting a leader with integrity courage and charisma gets pretty exciting.

I only make it five. But you’re right, I’d willingly swap him for any one of those five.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:27

@NextPrimeMinister I don't know, but I suspect they are humans in the Russian equivalent of a call centre.

tara66 · 08/02/2023 23:27

@Genevieva Yes perhaps - the list was for 2021.

Autumnnewname · 08/02/2023 23:27

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:21

@Autumnnewname I think Boho is deranged. A shame as their initial comment about the win-win for arms dealers was pertinent. But everything else has been seriously weird.

I don't actually think they're deranged.

the language and "talking points" used are following a well known script.

Every time the Russians are on the back foot, they ramp up this exact kind of information dump. Not all bots are clever enough to mix up the wording.

And for the record OP, I don't adore Zelensky but I bloody admire him

The Russians are murdering, soulless, morally corrupt nazis.

I prefer to judge on actions, not the origins of a particular battalion. The nazis are the ones murdering, raping, torturing, abducting and forcibly adopting children, and targeting civilians.

Who might that be. Clue. It's not Ukraine

Sounds like Putin.

So many bots.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 08/02/2023 23:29

If we hadn't encouraged Ukraine with the false idea that they would be able to join NATO their country wouldn't be at war.

....... Russia has made it more than clear they want to extend their control over Ukraine, Poland, and the other Eastern European countries.

There was never going to be no war, unless the West had stepped in early. And while Ukraine wishes that had happened, I don't think it could have. Chechnya and Georgia are too far away physically and Syria is an utter mess, but originally and partly a civil war.

The Eastern European countries wanted to join NATO because they know what Russia is like. This was always going to come, while someone like Putin has the ambitions he has :(

strawberriesarenot · 08/02/2023 23:29

I bet one of Putin's minor miseries is that Zelensky thought of military fatigues before he did.

And here we have it. @BohemianBoho , do try harder, that should be "in the Zelensky administration" you know.

The Zelensky who has criticised Israel for not doing enough to support Ukraine.

2ManyPjs · 08/02/2023 23:30

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar Yes, I've been scoring off my bingo card. Just waiting for "shadowy global elites", "zios" "free Assange" etc etc

Humans. They work on the theme of the week

That's why most of them switch between covid, climate change and bitcoin. Depends on their orders for the week

Plus they target the tin foil hat mob. They do it for nothing because it makes them feel like they're sticking to the man

Nah. Putin had already won with his bare chested horseback riding some years previously. I mean come on. That was fucking monumental.

Life would be so much easier if we were under the control of the Russians - would save a lot of time thinking about things. Probably wouldn’t be allowed Mumsnet so I’d get a lot of my life back to be spent toiling the fields, birthing, cooking, cleaning.

🤣🤣

ellyeth · 08/02/2023 23:33

I thought his feeble comment about tea was neither funny nor appropriate when there is a bloody war going on.

I don't know either why Zelensky is being treated like some sort of a saint or why he appears to be able to demand arms, jets and manpower from all and sundry.

Why isn't anyone trying to put together some sort of peace talks instead of just supplying more arms so that more and more people can be killed?

I think the situation re Russia and Ukraine is far more complicated than our media presents it to be.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:34

@Autumnnewname You are correct. Once I read a later post setting out the signs I could see it. It makes sense of the weirdness of the posts.

Grizzledstrawberry · 08/02/2023 23:35

Its the media circus that is been made of it, seems so insensitive of the realities of war, to the people fighting and those who have died.

It just feels icky, for want of a better word. He wants help and its almost like he's been made to beg for it and our politicians are lapping it up.

StarPup · 08/02/2023 23:35

Warriormum1 · 08/02/2023 21:47

Ordinary Ukrainian people are putting their lives on the line for their country - not Zelensky, OP. He's doing photo shoots for Vogue, appearing on the David Letterman show and travelling the world in private jets while young Ukrainian soldiers are being relentlessly thrown into the meat grinder whether they like it or not. A khaki t shirt and a photo shoot does not make you a hero.

Not true. He could have escaped at the beginning but he chose to stay when he knew there was a high chance he’d die if the Russians reached Kiev - as they were expected to. Now he changes his location every few days. His life is definitely at risk.

Genevieva · 08/02/2023 23:35

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar No worries. I have learnt a lot. I am not normally on Ukraine threads and I don't thin I have ever encountered a Russian propaganda bot before. It is quite enlightening.

Pumpkin314 · 08/02/2023 23:35

I have a few questions I wonder if anyone on this thread might be able to help me with about Russian bot farms...

  • do you have to post as several people or are you sat together with the others on the thread?
  • do you get paid to watch UK TV to help with your cultural knowledge? Are there snacks?
  • do you worry if you're too convincingly western your employers might think you've had your head turned by watching too much EastEnders?
  • do you ever get bored and read AIBU instead?
  • what did you want to be when you were little? How does being a bot compare?
