To ask how many times you name change

Just to be nosey

I have 10+ usernames (I think) and switch between some of them for different things, like different boards or just if the mood takes me, never to deliberately try and deceive.

I do it mainly so that if anyone IRL recognises a post, they can’t see my other posting history and confirm it’s me ie ‘pink fish has two dogs, a son who’s privately schooled’ etc it wouldn’t take long to put things together.

AIBU to name change often? Does anyone else change very regularly or usually stick to one?

Quite a lot normally.

I flit between four or five and occasionally let one go entirely if I think I've said something potentially outing.

I have just rejoined after a break though so I only have this one ATM!

Every couple of weeks. Or if I've just posted something that might be identifying if linked with something else.

Every couple of weeks to avoid being identifiable. I sometimes change small details that don’t matter to the topic like age of children.

I’ve identified several people here from combination of things they’ve said to me in real life and on here, even without trying or meaning too (I never say anything to them!) so it’s made me realise how easy it is.

Constantly. Not massively through choice, my phone changes it all the time without be noticing.

After I think I’ve posted something identifying. I don’t mind if people recognise me from one thread for example, but I don’t want them being able to link me to every single thing I’ve posted across different boards as that feels more personal.

That’s scary! I imagine it can happen. I used to be naive on here and didn’t realise you could name change, one of my old usernames if found would entirely reveal it was me. Whoops

Regularly, I have a lot that I use at particular times of the year (e.g. a Christmas one) but also have lots of random ones. This is my newest, changed about half an hour ago 😄

All the time. The one person who’d be able to guess from my usernames would be my husband. Doubt anyone else could

I have two that I switch between frequently, one I use if I'm talking about the very small place I live or anything easily identifiable (the one I'm using now) that I'm not too fussed about being outed with, and another for general conversation that I wouldn't necessarily want someone who recognised me on this one to be able to dig through.

I've used others for a couple of things I didn't want linking to either me in RL or my other posts.

I've name changed hundreds (literally) of times.

Only a few times. I don't really like doing it but I do find it quite funny when I get accused of being people I have never heard of 😂

I change anytime I start a thread and am happy to use it inbetween times for commenting on other people's threads

I change all the time for the same reason. I also change sometimes if I think previous posts will be looked up and used against me, such as posting about dh and people saying 'why are you with him as we said LTB last time, no sympathy' etc etc

Never deliberately. A few times I've been unable to log in so have started again, but that's the only reason.

I stick to one.

You'll soon get those who tell you they've always had one name and have been using mumsnet since 1813.

I believe those people have the regular, well-known name and their namechanges.

I use the same names for same sort of topics until I'm bored and need a change or something happens and I have to change or I feel I've become easily targeted or I randomly find inspiration for a new name somehow.

I thought premium users could search and it pulled up all your previous usernames? At least, some posters seem to know what previous names posters posted under.
