Beauty students asked to strip in front of trans rapist at college AFTER sex attacks

My AIBU title taken from this news article:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/beauty-students-asked-strip-front-29063499

This whole 'Isla Bryson' cluster-fuck has me angrier than I can describe.

These girls had to accept and trust this vile individual in their beauty course on the basis of Isla's claim to be a woman, nothing more. They even tolerated abuse from Isla.

They were not told this individual was facing charges of rape. The college claim they didn't know either. Because 'Isla' said he was a women, these young women felt they had no choice but to strip to virtually naked in front of him. Failing to do so would be 'bigoted'.

But he also happens to be a serial rapist. Young women, some possibly aged 16 or so, stripping to virtually naked while a serial rapist watches. If this was my daughter I would be going mad.

Where is the safeguarding?

AIBU to feel viscerally angry with all our politicians about this?

For those of you who are aghast at this, now would be a good time to look into Girl Guides.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/01/2023 09:44

The problem is that women were being asked to pretend that the person enrolled on their course was definitely not a man

@HufflepuffRavenclaw Yes, and that's a safeguarding risk. If female students aren't expected to strip off with a bloke then there should be no pressure to "be kind" by stripping off with a trans woman - not from staff, not from the trans student, not from other students, and not even from themselves.

@Sugarfree23 Then colleges need to think harder about how they manage trans inclusion safely, what expectations they've been setting and what messages they've been giving to the students.

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 09:52

I’m getting sick of the disingenuous ‘oh but what could have been done differently?’ comments.

What could have been done differently is what we’ve done differently for hundreds if not thousands of years - keeping the sexes apart in some important aspects! That is and has always been done for reasons of privacy, dignity and protection.

This MALE should not have been training on a course with young women whilst being FALSELY called a woman with the threat that if any of them was uncomfortable or raised safeguarding concerns around it they would be bigots. He should have been treated like a MAN whose presence while they were in states of undress was entirely inappropriate and absolutely WRONG.

DdraigGoch · 27/01/2023 22:01

For that matter, the beautician is pretty vulnerable too. Wasn't there a legal case in Canada revolving around a male client (identifying as a "woman") who wanted to force migrant female beauticians to perform intimate waxes?

You are right, of course - I was so busy concentrating on the thought of this bloke as a beauty therapist giving massages etc to women, I totally forgot that a female therapist could end up with a Jessica Yaniv.

You're not kidding!

That's a safeguarding horror just waiting to happen.

They sacked every woman who spoke out against men/boys sharing intimate spaces with girls, and put obviously dangerous men into positions of power and responsibility.

If my DD had been still in Brownies/ Guides I would have withdrawn her straight away.

JudgeRudy · 28/01/2023 03:21

I agree the whole thing is upsetting but I'd say the main factor was that this was a rapist rather than their gender/sex/transidentity.
I'm not sure quite how safeguarding could be applied. They were a student, not a member of staff so their criminal record would be their own business surely. I'm sure there are many students with convictions. Also, the nature of the course surely involves seeing people in states of undress, rather like a nurse.
Just to be clear, I'm really not implying that some of the female students might understandably feel sickened, I'm just not sure if anyone has done anything wrong...other than them of course. Let's say it wasn't a trans person but a cis male or even a female with an unknown pending case for a sex crime. What should have been done differently?

Are you really so naive?

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 10:03

I don’t accept naivety as an excuse from anyone anymore.

If you can’t see what the issues are and what the very simple and straightforward solution is, you’re part of the problem - directly involved in perpetuating it - so why don’t you just go elsewhere while the rest of us sort this shit out.

It makes me so angry.

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 10:09

Worth a gander at the NSPCC too.

Also certain rape crisis organisations and Women’s aid, certainly in Scotland.

Oh and hospital trusts. Lying about men on women’s wards and deliberately deceiving a woman who had been raped by saying, ‘oh no, there were no men present.’ For more than a YEAR they carried on that lie to the police, and to the raped woman, IIRC.

Despicable people.

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 10:12

And stop it with the c**. It’s a stupid, nonsensical term which is incredibly offensive.

There are men (males) and women (females). That is all.

WednesdaysNameIsFullOfWoe · 28/01/2023 10:13

Rainbowshit · 28/01/2023 07:41

This will be deleted but I don't care.

The fact is that any male who is using areas where females are undressing is a predator. They know it will make the females uncomfortable and they do it anyway.

As I’ve seen it put; good men stay out so that predators stand out.

FOJN · 28/01/2023 10:18

I’m getting sick of the disingenuous ‘oh but what could have been done differently?’ comments.

Well quite. Not allowing a man on the course would have prevented the bullying, abuse and exploitation of teenage girls, pretty simple really. But "oh, it's complicated". No it's not, it really isn't.

The hand wringing now just pisses me off. Women have been saying for years that this sort of thing would happen and the "be kind" crew on mumsnet were happy to see the conversation shunted off to the naughty step. Well here is the reality and I'm not going to refrain from saying, "I told you so".

Rheia1983 · 28/01/2023 10:25

FOJN · 27/01/2023 20:48

The girls I know who chose to do beauty courses all started around 16, straight out of school, instead of pursuing advanced highers. When I read this I imagined them standing virtually naked while an adult menacing serial rapist watched. It is completely unforgivable.

And the girls and college said and did nothing because anyone who does pays a heavy price. There would have been rape and death threats, risks to the students future employment, the college would have been hounded by transactivists.

The lovely women on the feminist board believe in golden bridges and welcoming people when the light finally dawn's about what a bad idea self ID has always been but I'm not one of those women.

If you've ever posted on a thread about what a transphobic place MN is and how TERF's are all full of hate then you have contributed to the climate of fear which kept both the students and college silent and threw safeguarding out of the window.

YOU SHOULD BE FUCKING ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES, YOU ARE A VIRTUE SIGNALLING, DICK PANDERING DISGRACE.

If I have to be nice and forgiving of your utter stupidity to get you to support the rights of women and safeguarding then we don't need you in the fight, you are too easily influenced by absolute bollocks and represent a liability not an asset.

I too was live and let live but the instant I became aware of tension between women's rights and self ID (about 5 years ago) the problems were as obvious as the nose on my face, I didn't need persuading.

I don't care what you think about my anger, I cannot forgive the people who have played a part in engineering a situation where teenage girls are forced into a situation where they are nearly naked in front of an adult male, sexual predator or not, and where their right to refuse consent has been taken away by people who think they are fucking kind.

All of this!

I will not forgive any of the virtue signalling dick-panderers who carry responsibility for the undermining of womens' and childrens' rights, saftey and dignity under the guise of gender ideology.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/01/2023 10:32

Any decent man wanting to train as a beauty therapist would have the self-awareness to step out of the tanning, or speak to the college in advance to find another male student to buddy up with.

And any decent college would have insisted that he did. I hadn't clocked that the girls were under 18 so not adults. So it's not optional, not for the trans students, not for the female students.

Safeguarding doesn't say "oh it's fine if no-one complains" because students try to be nice and inclusive and victims don't complain til the damage is done.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/01/2023 10:33

It's such horrible thing to happen but it was bound to happen sooner or later and at least now far more of the public know about it. Prisons and colleges. I expect a lot of organisations will be taking an anxious look at themselves.

HufflepuffRavenclaw · 28/01/2023 10:34

Yes I agree, @AmaryllisNightAndDay . But in Sturgeon's Scotland, Annie is a woman. A woman just like you and just like me and just like my 17 year old daughter. Any inference that Annie was not a woman is horrid transphobia. TWAW, remember?

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 10:40

Do you know what? I’m going to say it here:

Trans women ARE NOT women.

They just aren’t. Saying so is a statement of actual fact, nothing more.

I will not shy away from it. I don’t care how angry it makes some people, it needs to be said.

I'm not sure anybody is going to be ready for that shit show of how not to keep young girls safe!!!!!

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 11:01

It’s such a shit show. Just so infuriating.

In my view these organisations all need disbanding. They’re no longer fit for purpose; the people at the top have demonstrated that they have absolutely no integrity, nor moral fibre.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/01/2023 11:07

It's the lack of common sense that I find troubling.

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/01/2023 11:14

Lack of common sense, lack of commitment to truth and what is right, lack of integrity, lack of any substance and fortitude. And that’s being kind!

It’s safe to say there are more than a few who’ve directly facilitated predators/abusers and/or are potentially predatory/abusers themselves. Talk about the dark underbelly.

They ought not be unchallenged any longer. They ought all to be quaking in their boots right now for being part of this.

As I said, despicable actions by despicable people.

Men can never be women.

We are not cis women we are just women.

Ooh boiled us using the bigly words, she means business today methinks.

Tygger · 28/01/2023 12:26

WTF is a college doing by asking and/or allowing girls to get virtually naked as a part of the beauty course. Sounds to me like the lecturers are also perverts.😡
