If you find it easier to budget you can pay your community charge in 12 cheaper payments rather than 10 bigger ones with a Two month break at the end. The local authorities don't always advertise this option.

Top tip: if you are still paying Community Charge someone has been scamming you for nearly 30 years.

If you are a woman going out and about in public and do not want to receive unwanted attention from men, make sure you wear a jumper with cats on it. Cat jumpers are literally citronella for men.

If you just keep adding you'll get to the number 9 if it's divisible by 9.
So in your example 30 = 3+0 = 3 so not divisible by 9
27 = 2+7= 9 so divisible by 9.

Yes, but there is no point in doing that if you get to a number that you know is or isn't divisible by 9 😊

If you are someone who leaves the house and then convinces yourself that you have forgotten to lock the door/switch off the oven, iron, hair straighteners etc - take a photo on your phone when you do switch off the appliance or lock the door so you can refer to it later when you start to worry.

When I used to return home from work I always turned the corner fully expecting my house to have been burnt to the ground in my absence.

HelebethH · 21/01/2023 16:03

@Plbrookes haha 🤣 haha you are absolutely right! I blame it on lack of sleep. I meant Council tax 🤦

One of the most useful self-defence tips you can learn is to stamp down hard in a forward motion with your dominant foot.

It will do one or more of several things:

A) Land on your attacker's foot
B) If you're being pulled forward by an arm or a piece of clothing, push your attacker off balance and give you a rush defence
C) Push your balance forward so that you're on the right foot to run

Although I am basically also here for the bear tips.

Roe, a deer, a male deer?

Ericaequites · 21/01/2023 16:53

If you cat wanders off, be sure to butter his front paws when he comes home. He then assumes your house is a nice and generous place to stay. Plant butter/margarine does not work. It does work for awhile.

Never put baby oil on while in the bath after shaving your legs. Trust me.

It's easy to tell the temperature when it is well and truly cold and because really cold temperatures can kill it's best to check if you should go out.

If you spit and the spit hits the ground and takes time to freeze it is warmer than -50f and it's safe to go out (assuming you're well dressed for it)

If you spit and the spit freezes soon after hitting the ground it's colder than -50f and is dangerous to go out.

If you spit and it freezes before it hits the ground it's at least -75f and you should go inside immediately no matter how prepared you think you are for the cold.

And rest assured it's very true that if you don't have your extra warm mitts on when you go out in temperatures like that you will freeze your hand to any metal you touch.

Surely trying to scrape the melted chocolate out of the wrapper is more hassle than a Bain Marie?!

You just cut the corner off & squeeze it out like you are using a piping bag.

SmudgeButt · 21/01/2023 17:42

And more on temperatures.....

If doesn't matter if you prefer Celsius or Fahrenheit it's very easy to convert from one to the other.

Take the temperature in C, double it and add 30 and you have the F temp. So 10 C = 50F. Other way around if you have the F temp, subtract 30 and halve to get the C temp. Not 100% accurate but close enough to tell whether you need a parka or a bikini.

Meanwhile watch for the numbers that match their inverse.....
16C = 61F
28C = 82F
and when it's cold if the thermometer says -40 it doesn't matter what scale is being used as it's the same for C or F.

Use denture tablets to get rid of stubborn stains in teapots, mugs etc. Leaves them sparkling!

ALSO use (reusable) shower caps over bowls rather than cling film or foil.

@Emotionalsupportviper , I gave a coy of Tin Can Cook o the charity shop because I didn't want to waste money cooking meals by someone I have no faith in. Book was bought in a charity shop anyway.

@Sconces , but wasn't the alternative staircase expensive to install?

I got my (good as new, apparently unused0 copy of A Girl Called Jack from a charity shop, too.

After tentatively trying a couple of "recipes" 😬😧😵, I binned it.

Soak items with blood on in cold salty water BEFORE washing. Once you wash the item you lock in the stain.

In the UK we don’t ‘pay’ for medical treatment 😁
I mean we do in a round about way through taxes so whether we get the injection at docs, physio or hospital it is always sort of free to you but not free to the NHS/ public purse though😬

When you have 2 jobs you can claim 2 lots of SMP.

Take a copy or photograph your case and passports in case they go missing on holiday.

Photograph your child when you go out/on a trip, much easier than giving a description if you get separated. Obvs preferably don't lose child, but it can happen.

Ukrainebaby23 · 21/01/2023 17:53

I have had 2 jobs with one employer, up to start of my mat leave, will that still count, can I get it retrospectively?

If your cat didn't like the butter and wandered off anyway, hang your use, unwashed, bedding on the line on a windy day and cay can pick up scent to return home safely.
