Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis of anything in order to claim DLA. It’s all about to what extent their needs are different to what would be reasonably expected of their peers.

This is same with PIP.

If you're stranded in the Arctic and have to kill a polar bear for food, DON'T eat it's liver - at times it can contain so much Vitamin A that it could kill you.

I can guarantee I would come off worse than the bear in this situation

SeaToSki · 20/01/2023 15:59

Most bears will avoid you if they hear you coming…so if you are hiking in bear country singing

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise
If you go down in the woods today, you'd better go in disguise
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic

Is likely to keep you safe (er) than being zen and peaceful and walking in silence

Silk flowers clean up nicely, shaken in a plastic bag with some salt.
Baby oil is great for stainless steels sinks.

And um, bio washing powder or liquid cleans up any skulls you might want to preserve.
Get rid of as much of the soft tissue and brain that you can, then soak them in a solution for a few days to remove the residue. It brings them up nice and white.

Say your leaving your provider or whatever, say Sky and they should reduce your monthly price. You always need to ask though.
Each time this offer expires, ring the month before and ask for it again.

You don't even have to say you're leaving. We have a full TV/broadband package from Sky with a few other extras here and there. We've never paid full price and never threatened to leave. Just call them and ask if they can give you an offer. If they can't, just say bye and try again. DH once called up 4 times in the same day and found someone willing to give a huge discount. Sometimes they'll say there isn't anything at that time but there will be in a couple of days so just call back then.

A friend of mine once tried the cancelling trick and she didn't get any offers and they just cancelled it for her. Safer to just ask for deals.

Wild bears aren’t something that I’ve ever encountered. Is this something those of us who live in the Home Counties need to know about ?

my tip - when picking up a takeaway, put your heated seat on full and put takeaway on seat for drive back. (Don’t do this if you’ve picked up sushi)

Spray hairspray onto the collar of blouses/shirts about 20 minutes before putting on. It forms a barrier and prevents makeup stains .

If you accidentally use permanent marker on a whiteboard, you can use a whiteboard marker to get it off.

BeyondMyWits · 20/01/2023 16:11

If you are hiking in "the wilds" , wear a bright coat ... not green, black, brown or grey... something bright so you will be seen by rescuers - after the bears have gone of course.

There's more iron in a bottle of Guinness than a bag of nails.

Before going on a day out (beach, theme park, museum etc) take a photo of each child once they're dressed. Take another one with hoodies etc off. If they get lost you can show nearby people what you're children look like just before so they can help find them.

UselessExLondoner · 20/01/2023 16:19

If you have more than one child buy each child wrapping paper with a different pattern. So three kids you might go with: child 1 - red with silver stars, child 2- Elsa xmas, child 3- white with penguins. Then you can just wrap each child's presents in 'their' paper and you won't need to do any labels/tags!

violetcuriosity · 20/01/2023 16:23

Once you done your eyebrows spray hairspray on your fingers and smooth them down, they stay in place all day.

If you need to clean a rug, work a whole bottle of white shaving foam into it and then rub with a damp micro fibre cloth, comes up beautifully.

When you run out of detangling spray for the kids, fill it up with a squirt of conditioner and water.

All adults in the house have black socks, all the socks go in one drawer, no one ever has to look for socks 👍🏻😄

Viakal is your best friend for keeping your bathroom looking brand new, spray it on your water spotted glass and then wipe down with a wet scouring sponge (white topped yellow sponge) and rinse, no water marks.

For stubborn limescale, wet a 2p and scrape it off.

When shaving instead of rinsing the razor each time, shave against the grain and then shave back down, gets rid of all the hair from the razor. Saves so much time.

Spray your pillows with febreze every morning, feels like you're getting into a fresh bed each night.

Percentages are reversible - sometimes makes calculations quicker:

eg 40% of 60 = 60% of 40

15% of 80 = 80% of 15

This wins😁

If you're doing academic research, instead of paying to subscribe to journals, email the author of the paper you want directly. They will often give you the paper for free.

Also, sci-hub!

Bright colours attracted bears so a better approach for going into the wilderness is to just choose how you'd like to die - exposure after getting hopelessly lost or bear attack?

My tip is to make a will before going hiking.

Also if you sign up for anything then put the company name as your middle name, e.g., Jane Amazon Smith or Susan Tesco Brown. Then if you start getting marketing calls or junk mail you will know exactly which company sold your info.

SerenaTee · 20/01/2023 16:33

If your combi boiler stops working in freezing temperatures, pour hot (not boiling) water over the outside pipe that comes out of it (the condenser pipe?) It may be the pipe has frozen and the hot water defrosts it, you can then reset your boiler. We had to do it a few times in the last cold snap.

Same goes for your sled dogs! Be careful out there!

SugarCookieMonster · 20/01/2023 16:38

If freezing liquid in food bags, lay them flat. Once frozen you can stack them standing up to save space. They also defrost quicker.

You can freeze leftover birthday cake, pastries, and most bakery items. Wrap in clingfilm then in foil to keep any moisture out. Defrost overnight in the fridge.

Assign a drawer/basket for all school forms that need completing, homework and general school to do items. Then you’ll always know where you put it and you can work through the pile once a week.

Similarly, I have a drawer for all the paintings, crafts DS brings home. Then at the end of the year I sort through and keep our favourites.

@PupInAPram

Did you miss the tip on how to get your skulls sparkling?!

Trez1510 · 20/01/2023 16:39

If you're called abroad on a family emergency, eg someone becomes ill, take out an annual travel policy before you go. Companies will not extend your policy once you are abroad if you need to stay for more than, say, the week you expected.insured for. You'll need to return to the UK before you can take out insurance again.

If you're ever called home from abroad in an emergency, do not attempt to book flights from your hotel/en route to airport. Get to the airport and ask at the information desk for details of the next three flights going to your destination, and then run to the desks of the flights in the order of their departure times.
