To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

Now that decent FFP2 masks are widely available, it gives people an option to protect themselves.

I don't think the majority of vulnerable/elderly people would expect everyone else to wear masks to protect them (the ones I know certainly don't).

At this stage in the pandemic, we have to decide our own mitigations. I currently have covid so I've chosen to isolate for a week. But I'm not going to be wearing a mask once I'm testing negative.

ps. No thanks if you want to wear a face mask nobody stops you from it. I’ve had enough of wearing a cloth that nobody knows how to wear it

Sparklingbrook · 30/12/2022 21:20

hapoy new year to all n&j fans!

That would mean Happy New Year to literally nobody then.

Hmmmm. No.

Absolutely, everyone should wear a mask all the time. Just. So. Fucking. Selfish.

You forgot the bold font in this post. At least put some effort into it.

As for the op question, um no thanks.

@BellaCiao1 Between Christmas 2012 and July of this year i never caught so much as a sniffle. I have now had two viruses in the space of five months.

Do you pull your glasses down halfway down the bridge of your nose, look down and wag a finger while writing stuff like this. For additional matronly dramatic effect.

If you do that your bloody glasses steam up wearing one.

I'm the same, I caught two different strains of the cold in December alone.

I'm not being selfish! I think we have a duty to look out for each other, a reciprocity you don't appear to understand.

FrostyFifi · 31/12/2022 17:32

What, like when they pulled the plug on our livelihood in 2020? No bugger looked out for us then. We've done our bit.

Oh I'm still salty about how little help self employed people got from the government, in spite of our industries being shut down. I'm still stunned that people don't know that not everyone got furloughed in the gorgeous spring sunshine. Some of us were chewing our nail beds in fear of how we were going to pay our mortgage.

There’s the problem, we’ve all had to make sacrifices and been affected in different ways. A small minority can’t expect everyone else to make sacrifices forever more.

I have a duty to look out for no one but me and mine.

FrostyFifi · 31/12/2022 18:10

@PlusLaMeme honestly the stress of that time... and when I spoke about it on here I was called a tax dodger so yes salty is about right!
I hope your situation is okay now, especially with the COL stuff now.

CriticalAlert · 30/12/2022 19:59

Well thanks for your well informed comment. Obviously you can't give a damn for the NHS and the pressure it's under! I can't believe your attitude TBH. Have you always been entitled or just picked it up on life's journey??

I certainly don’t. Every winter we have this droning on by the NHS, unprecedented pressures blah blah. Why winter takes them by surprise I don’t know. At the end of the day the faults of the NHS are not my doing not having voted Tory and it’s not my responsibility to fix it. If the NHS can’t cope with people living their lives as normal all year round it isn’t fit for purpose.

Thank you for asking. We're surviving because of my husband's job, but my business is nowhere near where it was in 2019. My bestie lost her house though (she ran a catering business), so I'm not as bad as others.

When people talk about masks like it is a little thing and talk about the sainted NHS or the greater good, I want to scream. Where was all this when my family and my bestie's family was being decimated. It made me determined to only look out for myself and mine, because nobody else will. All the mask lives can go fly a kite for all I care.

I hope you're ok too. Only those whose industries were crushed in 2020/21 have any inkling of exactly what happened

Someone was droning on this morning on BBC news about don't go out on your bike, don't go for a long run, don't drink, this was immediately followed by an article about someone running marathons. I could trip over putting the rubbish out.

PlusLaMeme · 31/12/2022 18:31

Mask lovers. Not lives. In my previous post

Thismonkeysgonetodevon · 31/12/2022 18:33

My child has long covid and it’s awful.

We’ve had lots of trips to GP/hospital over the last six months and I have been surprised by the lack of doctors and healthcare professionals wearing masks when peering into her mouth, in small enclosed rooms without ventilation.

Our GP surgery is now only open for emergency appointments due to staff sickness and has been for some time. Surely good N95 masks and ventilation in healthcare settings with sick patients and vulnerable patients is just common sense?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/12/2022 18:33

Obviously you can't give a damn for the NHS and the pressure it's under!

The NHS is under pressure every bloody year. It's a toss up as to whether the headlines 'NHS to have its worst winter EVER!!' happen before or after the clocks go back, because it occurs with the same regularity.

FrostyFifi · 31/12/2022 18:37

@PlusLaMeme I'm so sorry, I hope it picks up for you and your friend losing her house is devastating. That was our biggest fear as well. The threat of the actual virus seemed felt like nothing in comparison to losing the roof over your head.

We got through okay in the end thank you. I'm still so twitchy and hypervigilany though and I save every penny. And like you say I've realised that you need to put yourself first as no-one else will. Sure as hell won't be testing and turning work away to isolate and couldn't care less who thinks that is selfish.
