To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

Surprised that the Covid zealots have not brought up the seatbelt or drink driving comparison yet. That was the usual go to analogy when trying to shame people for not wearing masks and calling them selfish.

Because apparently not wearing a mask is just like getting behind the wheel of a car drunk.

So you post about something that hasn't happened and not been said. Hmm

Tumbleweed101 · 29/12/2022 20:56

I wouldn't go back to wearing a mask every day now, but I will wear them out of courtesy in places like hospitals if requested due to the number of more vulnerable people.

if you’re coughing and spluttering in the supermarket

this is the most daft thing about masks. The obsession with wearing them in supermarkets. Most of the time you aren’t even near anyone else.

Tell that to the space invaders in Sainsburys queue 🤣 literally the only good thing to come out of lockdown was that people backed off in queues

Teateaandmoretea · 29/12/2022 21:10

If the closest people get to you guys is in Sainsburys I reckon you need to get out more.

WestwardHo1 · 29/12/2022 21:22

Since Covid, no one ever cleared their throat or simply coughed. They "cough and splutter". Nor do they run or jog - they "huff and puff"..

TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 29/12/2022 21:27

@WestwardHo1 😂 so true!

I know, right? Amazing the things you can do on the internet nowadays.

OoooohMatron · 29/12/2022 21:37

No way

LollipopViolet · 29/12/2022 21:53

I hate masks - I'm visually impaired and have some sensory issues, so they just caused so many issues.

  • Couldn't see due to my glasses fogging (tried numerous fixes but no joy) and would also get tutted at if I didn't get the social distancing spot on.
  • People's faces and voices changed, so I couldn't recognise people
  • I hated the feeling of not being able to breathe - in very warm conditions I was fending off panic attacks.

If you want to wear one, that's fine, I just can't face the thought again. I know several people considered vulnerable and they all say that it's now on them to take precautions, the world has to get back to some kind of normal, if they feel they need to take action, they will. Not everyone feels that way, and that's fine too. You do you, and I'll do me.

Masks have also ruined the Hidden Disabilities sunflower - and I hate that as I have some friends who massively benefited from using one pre-covid, but now it tends to just get ignored.

Sound of sonic boom as idea goes right over your head.

Yeah, no. Perhaps you will elaborate.

Ladysodor · 29/12/2022 22:10

No. Never worn one.

endlesscraziness · 30/12/2022 07:24

@TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree because I'm considerate of others and don't want to unnecessarily spread illness. I was really ill on the run up to Christmas, I masked at work and when I'm shops etc because who wants to be ill? I wear surgical masks because I work in a hospital (not patient facing so I don't normally need a mask)

Last year my boss did my 1-2-1 whilst he had a terrible cold, pile of tissues in front of him and no mask. I was ill for 2 weeks and it could have been avoided.

Nobody will ever comply again

We will be 'exempt' if necessary

You've had a word with everyone? Taken a survey? You didn't check in with me - jeez

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 30/12/2022 08:05

If I see someone wearing a mask out shopping now I assume they are out and about with Covid and so I steer clear …

Great. I wish more people would steer clear of me! Wink

KangarooKenny · 30/12/2022 08:24

My DH caught covid while wearing a mask, as we know where he got it.

notprincehamlet · 30/12/2022 09:07

Pre COVID I worked in a uni where lots of overseas students would wear masks if they were unwell to minimise the risk of making others unwell. It's a courtesy and a hygiene measure that's taken for the benefit of others. You'd think that a global pandemic might cause people to up their hygiene game but the idea of doing something for the benefit of others with no quid pro quo remains alien to many - sneezing into a hanky is too big an ask never mind wearing a mask.

IDontCareMatthew · 30/12/2022 12:42

Majority won't ever bother again, pp is right!

CriticalAlert · 30/12/2022 19:30

We should all be wearing masks outside. The Tories don't give a f##k about the NHS but we should do our best to keep out of hospital. FFS stop being so selfish everyone and just wear a mask. It's not difficult to be a human being.

FrostyFifi · 30/12/2022 19:37

No thanks, but you do you.

The vast majority of people with Covid will not need admission to hospital. You wear one if you want. I have better ones things to spend my money on and saving the NHS is not my responsibility. I couldn’t give a toss if that’s “selfish” - it’s just a word that’s been rendered meaningless with how much it’s been bandied about.

TheKeatingFive · 30/12/2022 19:43

Why is this all about wearing masks? If people genuinely want to take the pressure off the nhs, there should be much more emphasis on looking after our own health, optimising fitness, avoiding obesity. That would do far more to ease the burden.

Wolfiefan · 30/12/2022 19:45

Wearing a mask doesn’t make you a human! Understanding that not everyone wants to or is able to might go some way though.

Outside? That is bat shit.

Maybe get one of the more expensive ones that protect you as well as others. That way you are in control of your own health. It is selfish to expect other people to do it for you.
