To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

"These are the same idiots that came on MN to how shocked they were when they went down to the beach and it was packed. “Why are so many people out on the beach” they asked with dimwitted faux wide eyed outrage. Or they would post saying how they went to the park and so many people were out walking. “Why are they not staying at home” they would ponder with sheer disgust.

Well, duh!

Alas, there is no antidote to stupidity."

Absolutely!! And usually also, while moaning about people being out, we're moaning about furlough payments.

TheKeatingFive · 29/12/2022 12:25

Yes it’s never people who were on the bones of their star and finding themselves unable to access their food bank is it

No, of course not. But they'd be on here, telling people in minimum wage jobs with no sick pay that they were selfish for not testing for Covid constantly 🙄

In retrospect, you have to laugh at the beach panic. The Beach was the last place you were going to get covid.

I laughed at the time.

Yanbu. It is still compulsory on German public transport and everyone puts them on without complaint. The Brits have this childish aversion to a simple precaution (see PPs above). It's bizarre.

Simple precaution for you maybe, not for everyone. Medical Exemptions aside, the thought of long term mask wearing made me feel quite depressed and I'm sure I'm not the only one (im sure the mask lovers will be on to minimise the mental health implications, because mental health didnt matter in 2020). But yeah, people are childish because they don't agree with you...

It also proved pointless. See Scotland vs England data when masks remained in Scotland. So if not wearing them is childish then I'm childish. Couldn't care tbh.

And the outrage that OTHER PEOPLE dared frequent the beach but the poster themselves were ok to be there 🥴😂

SirMingeALot · 29/12/2022 12:30

Things described as simple precautions barely ever are.

Oh I know right? 😂

MilkyWaytoday · 29/12/2022 12:30

Not vaccinated and won’t wear masks ever again. Protect yourself if you want.

Jourdain11 · 29/12/2022 12:36

They didn't just go there. They flocked there, flouting the rules and flaunting their lack of responsibility. Selfish fuckers.

Fiji19 · 29/12/2022 12:50

I'm stunned that people are still holding up Spain's callous disregard for children as something to aspire to! The after effects of the lockdowns are out in the open, and clear to everybody who has eyes to see. And yet we persist with this magical thinking?

Lockdowns were an abomination. Masks were and remain pointless. I never wore one, and have no intentions to start now.

Tanfastic · 29/12/2022 12:55

I have to wear one for work, nHS office worker but if I didn't I wouldn't. Hate the bloody things.

christmascalypso · 29/12/2022 12:57

I was told by a medical professional that blue surgical masks only work for 10 mins or so. As soon as they get damp as you breathe they need to be changed which isn't going to happen with the general public. Cotton homemade type masks are practically useless.

StripyHorse · 29/12/2022 13:15

Itloggedmeoutagain · 28/12/2022 23:34

Given that masks are there to protect people from what you're breathing out rather than in, it makes me feel I want to give mask wearers a wide berth as it makes me wonder if they've got the virus

I don't wear a mask in work (school) but do in shops / theatre etc.

I recently went shopping, wearing a mask and didn't realise I had covid (got a positive test later that day). Because I had a decent mask on I know the chance of me passing it on was low. Surely that can't be a bad thing.

CEV people in the UK are denied Evesheld, and if they are immune compromised, vaccines don't always work. Going out to the supermarket etc. would be much safer for them if people weren't so petulant about wearing masks

Well quite. I’m a bit fed up of people deciding for others that things are just “simple little things that might make life easier/better for others”. See also “pronouns”

Can’t people get their own FFP masks if they are worried? That’s what I would do, not expect everyone else to be responsible for my health.

StripyHorse · 29/12/2022 13:21

Of course (which is what I do) but it would still be safer if everyone wore masks in essential settings as they do in Germany (supermarkets/ public transport). There is also a risk to infants who can't wear masks which would be reduced if people wore masks.

Ideally, ventilation should be improved which would reduce risk without people being individually impacted.

WestwardHo1 · 29/12/2022 13:22

I'm Not Wearing A Mask. You Can If You Like

Btw, my DP did a parental visit home to Germany last week and no one is wearing masks. Not on planes, trains, buses, in shops. People have stopped

What risk to infants? Where are you getting this stuff from?

And this is why I take mask advocates with a giant pinch of salt. Infants are statistically at minimal risk of covid.

Noooooo, surely it's only ever British people who don't wear masks and the rest of the world is looking on shaking their heads?

You mean apart from the fact that infants and elderly are usually more vulnerable to viruses?

And the fact babies can't wear masks?

What are you trying to show here? That less than 0.5 babies/children per 100k were admitted to ICU.

I don’t think this backs up your argument. Try harder.
