To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

TheShellBeach · 28/12/2022 23:28

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

@Badbadbunny I updated below my first post
My mask worked perfectly. But someone didn't tell me at Christmas that they were positive/hadn't tested
I can be 100% sure it was Christmas Day as I WFH and hadn't left the house for 6 days before that

Personally I think the rule of 6 was FAR too lenient. What possible reason could there be for 6 people to NEED to meet up in the middle of a global pandemic? Rule of 2 would have been sufficient, or better still, no socialising at all.

Why do people still persist in this “never had a proper lockdown” bollocks, far less uphold the cruelty inflicted on children in Spain as something aspirational?

FrostyFifi · 29/12/2022 12:01

Personally I do think it's time to introduce N95 masks in all indoor and busy outdoor settings. However, this can only be one part of a broader mitigation strategy- we should be reintroducing testing and mandatory isolation, the rule of six, air filtration, capacity limits on large crowds, social distancing and early closure for hospitality

That should nicely see off the tattered remnants of our economy. I know! Let's print more money to fund it. I don't think inflation is quite high enough yet.

FrostyFifi · 29/12/2022 12:02

People elsewhere made huge sacrifice to keep others safe- DC in Spain weren't allowed out of the house at all for 2 months to keep people safe

Yeah that wasn't a good thing to aspire to btw.

The strain coming from China is on the way out here. It won’t cause a surge.

People seem stuck in cyclical thinking but the situation is different.

Is there any proof of this? I’m only asking because of the move by the US CDC. Obviously there’s a chance it’s politically motivated but it did make me raise my eyebrow slightly when I read other nations were doing the same, if indeed it is a new variant there’s a possibility we could have a surge, right?

You are correct about the situation being different now, the vast majority of us have had Covid multiple times so technically we should have immunity and yet that really doesn’t seem to be the case.

I’m not sure we can be certain of anything at this stage.

MichaelFabricantWig · 29/12/2022 12:02

I can’t tell what’s satire on here any more and what is people just being suitably bonkers

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 29/12/2022 12:04

AngeloMysterioso · 29/12/2022 11:26

Absolutely not. There are some viruses going round at the moment that are absolutely knocking people off their feet and I’m fairly convinced it’s because all our immune systems have gone to crap thanks to over sanitisation, masks and lack of exposure to germs in the last 3 years.

I agree and many of us called it on here back in Spring 2020. To only be called selfish cunts and granny killers

Pretty much the problem with life generally since March 2020 IME.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 29/12/2022 12:04

Yanbu. It is still compulsory on German public transport and everyone puts them on without complaint. The Brits have this childish aversion to a simple precaution (see PPs above). It's bizarre.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/12/2022 12:04

No one is stopping you from wearing one. I still do. Doesn’t bother me at all that most people don’t, it’s entirely personal
choice.

Apparently it’s a variant we have already had in Europe but which didn’t take hold.

I don’t think requiring testing is particularly draconian and probably sensible without being OTT

When they explicitly spell out multiple measures they want, it's usually bullshitting. Especially if they mention things nobody has any emotional or practical attachment to like rule of 6.

hmm. A consultant paediatrician was interviewed on Today programme last week and he said that idea is just wrong 🤷‍♀️

You think that fining people for giving their children fresh air is a preferable method to avoid a bad cold?

I find it utterly batshit how people just not only accepted these nonsense and unproven measures - in fact demanded MORE - at the detriment of themselves and their families and didn’t even begin to question anything. Then abused people who went ‘hang on a minute’ or said that they didn’t want to wear a mask because they were gagged when they were raped as a child and it was triggering. They got called selfish cunts (yes that was a thread on here).

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 29/12/2022 12:09

Should be personal choice.

DomesticShortHair · 29/12/2022 12:10

But Halloween was over weeks ago?

DillDanding · 29/12/2022 12:11

I hated the mask mandates. I won't be wearing one again.

💯this. I was astounded by how many people in this country (not just on here) were apparently gagging to live in what amounted to a police state and questioned absolutely nothing.

tigger1001 · 29/12/2022 12:16

I see the competitive lockdown people are back posting. About how we should have locked down much tighter, and restrictions should not have been lifted so soon. I would wager most of these who think that were not terrified that their job would go and could afford their bills easily.

I would also wager that the same people wanted stuff delivered, and expected these working in delivery services to still go to work.

I honestly thought lockdowns would have taught us that as soon as we need some people working, they become pretty pointless pretty quickly.

WilsonMilson · 29/12/2022 12:18

Never doing any of that shit ever again.

These are the same idiots that came on MN to how shocked they were when they went down to the beach and it was packed. “Why are so many people out on the beach” they asked with dimwitted faux wide eyed outrage. Or they would post saying how they went to the park and so many people were out walking. “Why are they not staying at home” they would ponder with sheer disgust.

Well, duh!

Alas, there is no antidote to stupidity.

Yes it’s never people who were on the bones of their star and finding themselves unable to access their food bank is it

TheKeatingFive · 29/12/2022 12:23

In retrospect, you have to laugh at the beach panic. The Beach was the last place you were going to get covid.
