To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

Oohhh they learned the importance of selflessness. A lesson we must all learn comrades.

HoldingTheDoor · 29/12/2022 13:37

The point is that DC in Spain were not allowed out at all. They were expected to stay at home to protect themselves and others. They learned the importance of selflessness and protecting the vulnerable.

You mean that they learned that the government didn't give a shit about their physical, social and mental wellbeing. I think of that every time people on MN salivate over how child friendly/pro children Spain supposedly is. Well that's about as anti-children as you can get. It was barbaric.

I think they’re on a big wind up

Philomenacunk1 · 29/12/2022 13:41

I find all of these posts about wearing a mask while sick very strange. When you have a cold, it’s hard enough to breath, without a mask adding to that. And what about when you have a runny nose, are you supposed to let it just drip away inside the mask?
Pre-2020, people with colds and other viruses were expected to be at work and generally out and about. Calling in sick just for a cold would not have gone down well. People seem to have forgotten that they have no god given right to be protected from every bug out there and, for most, boosting immunity from catching minor illnesses is a good thing. Obviously that’s not the case for the ECV, but it’s not realistic to impose measures on the general population for their benefit - the onus should be on them to take their own precautions.

WestwardHo1 · 29/12/2022 13:41

I'm astonished that anyone can look back at the photos and footage of those sad little faces looking out of apartment block windows and feel anything but revulsion. I questioned it at the time and I'm glad I did.

SirMingeALot · 29/12/2022 13:41

That they're on a wind up was obvious several posts ago.

However, it's always good to take the opportunity to point out that the Spanish policy was declared unconstitutional, as there are some people who genuinely do think the UK didn't have a proper lockdown and that was the problem.

Fiji19 · 29/12/2022 13:41

I bloody hope treeforest is on a wind up because anyone who thinks imprisoning children for months on end, with no access to the outdoors let alone their peer group, is teaching them selflessness is a few spoons short of a cutlery set

To be honest, it’s scary to think that these unhinged Covid zealots have the vote. A unintended downside of democracy, I suppose.

I hope that they are but considering some of the extreme measures that people were advocating and applauding here back in 2020 and 2021, it wouldn't surprise me if some truly believe it was the right thing

This was before people knew exactly how fatal it was, remember.

To do.

It was not fatal to the vast majority of the population. Ever. That is the point. The hysterics were not needed then. Nor are they needed now. The vulnerable needed to take precautions, not everyone else.

Hbh17 · 29/12/2022 13:46

Utter tosh. Masks do nothing except whip up unnecessary fear. They are pointless and people only use them for some kind of mistaken virtue signalling. Covid is not a serious illness and thus is not 2020 - we know better now, thank goodness.

Have you forgotten that Chris Whitty said right at the start, when the fear was greatest, that this was a mild illness for the vast majority???

These people are nut jobs and have been since the very start.

WestwardHo1 · 29/12/2022 13:51

I've reported this poster. They're on a wind up.

Burgoo · 29/12/2022 13:52

No. Not because I don't think they can be helpful, but because we don't do this for flu and there is no evidence that COVID is any more fatal than flu now that vaccines are here.

I think we have all suffered a collective trauma. The last thing we need is to be reminded of it constantly. I have to wear one in my workplace and it is tedious. I want to move on, yet I am stuck with the reminder of the isolation and misery.

I lost love ones in COVID times, AND at the same time viruses are by design there to thin out the human population. We hit (was it?) 8 BILLION recently? Nature is trying to tell us something, particularly as we now have HUGE medical advancements that are tipping the balance in the ecosystem (we ARE within an ecosystem even if we don't think we are).

I know school’s out and all, but don’t you have some TikTok to watch or online games to play with your friends. By the way, your mum is calling you downstairs for lunch.

red4321 · 29/12/2022 13:58

I'd hate to go back to compulsory mask wearing. Having to wear a mask while cycling on the exercise bike for post-surgery physio (while they asked me questions) wasn't much fun.

And that's even after testing positive for covid on Christmas Day. It's funny how it works. No-one else in my family has it (despite my kids coming into our bed to open their presents before I knew I was positive) and I haven't really been in close and direct contact with anyone for the last week. Perhaps it's the curse of the supermarket again.

SavoirFlair · 29/12/2022 13:58

ILoveeCakes · 29/12/2022 00:55

You do you, but don't you dare to try to tell other people what to do.

If you want to be a scared pair of eyes peeping out over the top of a mask - fine.

embarrassing seeing people belittle others for being “scared” for making the choices they make

Hbh17 · 29/12/2022 13:46

@Hbh17 The only tosh spoken is by you. Why are you angry?

Proper FFP3 masks worn by people who are protecting immunocompromised children like my child at home … they are effective.

Are we “whipping up fear” by protecting our young?

am I “virtue signalling” by safeguarding my child with cancer?

seriously, STFU.

SirMingeALot · 29/12/2022 14:03

The world would be a much better place if we just left other people to make their own decisions about masks and minded our own fucking business. That goes for those of you who complain about other people wearing them every bit as it does for those of you who complain about other people who don't.
