I just want a really good vacuum cleaner that doesn't cost a fortune.

I'm so sick of my cordless dyson. It was great when I got it but now struggles to pick up a crumb and claims to be blocked all the time (it's not blocked). I can't afford to spend that sort of money these days, just want something reasonably priced and effective! Corded too. Please tell me about your reliable vacuum cleaners?!

You can't go wrong with a Henry. Yes they're heavy but they're indestructible.

Just make sure your carpets are fixed down well.

Builders and tradespeople have them for a reason.

I have a shark lift away. I love it. Amazon often sell them with a split payments option.

catandcoffee · 28/12/2022 18:31

Henry, Hettie or Charles.

winonarose · 28/12/2022 18:32

I've got a Shark Lift-Away and it's great 👍

AlexandraJJ · 28/12/2022 18:33

Another shark lift away vote here

Another shark lift away vote.

Money was very tight when my old cordless Dyson died, so I bought an Amazon Basics cylinder vac to tide me over. 3 years later it's still going strong! I bought mine for £30 in the sale but they're only £45 full price. One of my best purchases.

whosaidtha · 28/12/2022 18:35

I've got a corded hoover which is better than the shark and the Dyson cordless I had. And it's a third of the price.

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 28/12/2022 18:37

I have a shark liftaway and it's...okay. I suspect they all lose their suck after a while. We are going back to Henry after this one. My cleaner brings her Miele which seems good.

Jellykat · 28/12/2022 18:37

Henry or Hettie for me, and im a cleaner so ive tried a lot..

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 28/12/2022 18:37

Ive got a shark liftaway and its great. I got it direct from shark and used Klarna to pay it over 3 months

QuietYou · 28/12/2022 18:40

Miele. Reasonably priced, last ages and work really well.

BeckettandCastle · 28/12/2022 18:41

I've got a Shark lift away and I really rate it.

I read somewhere that cordless vacuums are never as powerful as corded ones so whatever one you do get, don't get a cordless one.

jetadore · 28/12/2022 18:43

Miele.

RichardsGear · 28/12/2022 18:44

I recently got a Shark and I bloody love it. The anti hair wrap doodah is nothing short of miraculous.

Sahara123 · 28/12/2022 18:44

Shark lift away here too , it’s great and their customer service is very good too ,

OldTinHat · 28/12/2022 18:45

I bought a £25 Argos value range vacuum cleaner about ten years ago. Best thing ever and still going strong!

ThePoshUns · 28/12/2022 18:48

Miele

AriettyHomily · 28/12/2022 18:49

Vax blade. I've got the pet version and love it. So much better than the corded dyson I had before.

KnottyKnitting · 28/12/2022 18:50

The shark lift away is good and suction is very strong but there are a few annoying things about it:

Collection bin is quite small
Cord is not long enough
Hose is not stretchy enough.
Hair wrap thing is not as good as advertised but better than vacs that don't have this.

To keep it running well with good suction- make sure the bin is emptied regularly and the filters are kept clean and the hose is not blocked up ( it won't suck up big things like socks as my old Dyson did!) Having said that is is way way better than the Dyson Ball piece of crap I had before it. It is very good with getting up fluffy animal hair and is pretty good on the stairs as the heavy bit of the vac can be lifted off.

Biscuits1011 · 28/12/2022 18:51

Got to be the Henry’s. They handle anything! I’ve always got Henry quick and he’s great too. But not great enough to get rid of the corded Henry!

AutumnIsMyFavouriteSeason · 28/12/2022 18:52

Shark lift away is fab. But it lost suction in 12 months and now no longer works! After a previously disappointing Dyson, I have now gone to Miele which seems superb! And lasts ages too (better for the planet). I've got the Cat&Dog and it's a league apart from other vacuums.

Actually yes, I got one of the basic cheapest corded from Argos once and they are bloody good!

Asdf12345 · 28/12/2022 18:53

Anything cheap will be fine if you keep the filters clean and pipes clear. Have you given the dyson a proper service? It might be salvageable.

wigywhoo · 28/12/2022 18:53

Henry - not flash, a workhorse,!does the job! 14 years so far
