I just want a really good vacuum cleaner that doesn't cost a fortune.

I'm so sick of my cordless dyson. It was great when I got it but now struggles to pick up a crumb and claims to be blocked all the time (it's not blocked). I can't afford to spend that sort of money these days, just want something reasonably priced and effective! Corded too. Please tell me about your reliable vacuum cleaners?!

I love my Vax blade. Great suction, easy to use etc.

Pennina · 28/12/2022 19:50

Another vote for a Henry. Used for a thorough vac. I've a Vax Blade that I use for quick vacuums in between/to freshen up etc

WeAllHaveWings · 28/12/2022 19:52

I have the shark and hate it. Worst vacuum Ive ever had, but I was spoiled with an original dyson that lasted 15 years until it blew. Then tried a new dyson and wasnt impressed so switched to a shark which was even worse. Wish I had kept my old dyson and tried to get it repaired instead.

No idea what to go to next, toying with the idea of a miele but prefer a bagless upright.

Reugny · 28/12/2022 19:53

I have a Numatic which is a commercial Henry. I've had it for 15 years.

Hocuspocus99 · 28/12/2022 19:54

Sebo all day every day , super long cord ,easy to maintain the pick up is fantastic. I’ve used countless vacuum cleaners and yes the hand held ones are so easy to use , but the pick up of actual dust ,crumbs really poor !

BackT · 28/12/2022 19:58

I have a roller ball Dyson and yes the hair wraps on the bar but it's so good on carpets.

I also have a dyson v7 stick thing which is very good for my small flat.

I recently ordered the stick version of the shark and I hated it. The auction was good in that it collected a bin full of dust even when I thought there was nothing there, but it didn't touch the visible sock fluff etc. I suspect the anti hair wrap meant it just didn't brush as well.

Of mine, the dyson v7 does the job best.

After having an expensive cordless that fell apart after about a year, my DH purchased an Amazon basics one. It's going strong and works well 👍🏻

aintnothinbutagstring · 28/12/2022 20:04

I have a bosch one with bags - had it a good while now as I found bagless ones a bit disgusting once you've had them a while and always seems to lose suction.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 28/12/2022 20:06

Sebo. No contest.

NotMeNoNo · 28/12/2022 20:26

We've had a vac-off this week as the Miele C3 blew a fuse and DH brought a Henry home from work. We have a long haired dog and a very grippy carpet. I honestly think for the dog hair the Miele is better but you have to cut the wrapped up hair off the brush pretty well every week. The Henry had stronger suction though.

paintitallover · 28/12/2022 23:15

I have the Henry Numatic too. Cost me around £100 from Amazon 10 years ago. I also have a Dyson cordless, but I often go back to the Henry.

stayathomer · 28/12/2022 23:17

Bettie here too and love it, really long cord and great suction- I bought it because my friend used to work in hotels and she got one because every hotel used one.

I've bought my mum the new Shark Stratos powered liftaway for Christmas, it nearly sucks the floorboards through the carpet. I had hoovered with the Dyson just before I used the Shark & still got nearly a full tank of dust just from the living room. I got it for £300 on black Friday but you will probably find it in the sale somewhere.

Numbat2022 · 28/12/2022 23:28

I have a cordless Shark and it's utterly shit, doesn't suck unless you've literally just emptied it and cleaned the filters. It's also really heavy. I got is as a replacement for brilliant cordless Dyson that died, but am considering getting a Henry because my carpets are never clean anymore.

Jarstastic · 29/12/2022 01:11

I was feeling this way about our Dyson cordless which was just over 2 years old. Then signed up with a company who do an annual service and also come out if any problems. All parts are included. We thought we kept it relatively clean but there was a bit where things get stuck in the motor. They replaced the motor. Working well now! Battery will likely go next.

Worldpeaceandallthat · 29/12/2022 01:14

Wickes wet and dry hoover (like a cheap version of Henry). It's blue and black and think it cost about £40-50 couple years ago. It's only one that's done a good job.

BertyFlanter · 29/12/2022 01:37

I've finally ended my year long search for a vacuum and ordered the Henry extra off the back of this thread.

I've had everything from Aldi specials to top of the range dyson and Bosch (all cordless and bagless) and all have been absolute crap. My current shark cordless is the most painful thing ever invented I spend so much time emptying and cleaning filters to get 10 mins of suction. Then it just leaves a trail of massive crumbs behind as soon as it's lifted up.
I've used Henry's in many a workplace, not pleasing to the eye and a little cumbersome but undeniably reliable. Bagged and corded for me now. Old school!

lurchermummy · 29/12/2022 19:45

Miele all the way for me

YouremywifenowTubs · 29/12/2022 19:50

Henry.

I had to suffer dh fucking dyson obsession for years. Until one day, he admitted that he was spending more time unclogging the bloody thing than he used it.

We got a henry a few months ago and it’s brilliant.

CMOTDibbler · 29/12/2022 19:51

We bought a Dyson cordless as we thought it would be light and easy to use. It isn't, and clogs up all the time. Our cleaner (while cursing it for the millionth time) asked if we would get a Henry instead as she uses one at another job. And green Henry is sooo much better

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/12/2022 19:51

I've tried them all, Shark, Dyson, Miele, Vax and still I go back to my old faithful Henry every time

SunlightThroughTrees · 29/12/2022 19:53

Miele Cat and Dog (I don’t have pets) is brilliant

GeraldtheHerald · 29/12/2022 19:55

MaryQueenOfSwots · 28/12/2022 19:22

Sebo upright. Not cheap, not fancy but has a really strong suction.

Yes, they are brilliant. My Shark Liftaway is the worst vacuum cleaner we've ever had. DH loathes it too. Flash and expensive, but has a dust container the size of a cup and blocks endlessly

BrioNotBiro · 29/12/2022 19:56

Miele don't do uprights any longer sadly- my cat and dog one has been brilliant but the stretchy tube is about to give up after 12 years.
