I just want a really good vacuum cleaner that doesn't cost a fortune.

I'm so sick of my cordless dyson. It was great when I got it but now struggles to pick up a crumb and claims to be blocked all the time (it's not blocked). I can't afford to spend that sort of money these days, just want something reasonably priced and effective! Corded too. Please tell me about your reliable vacuum cleaners?!

Henry.

Blueberrypeapod · 28/12/2022 18:55

Another vote for a Henry or Hetty. Had two Sharks, both rubbish (they replaced first one, I wouldn’t have bought another)

MrsLemons · 28/12/2022 18:56

I had a shark but went and bought a Henry last week. The shark was awful and cost me 300!

cowsaysmoo · 28/12/2022 18:56

Miele.

Farawayfromhere · 28/12/2022 18:58

Henry all the way

HolliDays · 28/12/2022 19:07

For those of you saying Henry - we have small terrier dog & cat, whilst Henry is excellent on tiled kitchen floor he's rubbish on carpet. I have to crack out the Sebo upright for the carpet to be anywhere near clean.

Can anyone offer any advice on this predicament?

CherrySmiler · 28/12/2022 19:10

Miele. Don’t go for cheap. We have Miele Cat and Dog despite not having animals but I have long hair. It’s amazing. Never again will I buy a cheap vacuum cleaner.

Dontevenstart · 28/12/2022 19:17

Henrys, Hetties etc are crap.
Miele, every single time.

MaryQueenOfSwots · 28/12/2022 19:22

Sebo upright. Not cheap, not fancy but has a really strong suction.

ExtraOnions · 28/12/2022 19:23

My Miele is great … highly recommend

Another vote for Miele. I also have the cat and dog. Bought after reading numerous recommendations on MN. Best vacuum I've ever owned.

Growlybear83 · 28/12/2022 19:26

I recently inherited my late Mum's Gtech Air Ram and it's in a completely different league to every other vacuum cleaner I've ever ha, including various Dysons. It's cordless and the charge lasts for ages, and it's really powerful on carpets and hard floors. I wish I'd bought one year ago.

Riverr · 28/12/2022 19:28

Wash the filter on the dyson and when dry put it back in that should work

Seymour5 · 28/12/2022 19:29

Miele. Brilliant suction, never found better.

iloveyoghurt · 28/12/2022 19:32

Miele C3 is amazing

harrassedmumto3 · 28/12/2022 19:33

Miele. Some of the ones mentioned here are faddy, and the Henry is really bulky.

LikeTearsInRain · 28/12/2022 19:33

Sebo

Bookworm333 · 28/12/2022 19:34

Henry for sure. I have dabbled in Dysons and always found them heavy, unwieldy and also short-lived. But my trusty Henry has been going strong for years now!

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 28/12/2022 19:36

Love my Miele. Suction is amazing years later.

Nevermind31 · 28/12/2022 19:41

Another Henry user here.

Robin233 · 28/12/2022 19:44

Miele . BUT I have long hair and eventually the brushes got so much hair round them it also wouldn't pick up a crumble.
So check this on yours.
In the end we found there is a way to 'pop' out the brushes and take all the hair off.
Brilliant- good as new.

ForestofD · 28/12/2022 19:44

Miele. I had a small issue with mine about 2 years after I bought it. They sent me a special bag, I popped the hoover back in, they fixed it, cleaned it all up, changed the filters etc and sent it back in the bag. For free.

Still going strong about 10 years later.

I have a long haired jack russel and black carpet on the stairs. Henry gets them up like new. The shark was awful on it

primeoflife · 28/12/2022 19:47

Our shark is shit. Complete waste of money and leaves a pile of sandy crap wherever it goes.

We've a Henry now, best vacuum we've had

Marmite27 · 28/12/2022 18:54

Henry.

This

I have had both a Shark and various Dysons and they always lose their suction after a while. I bought a Henry on the advice of my builder and have had no problems with it at all.
