I just want a really good vacuum cleaner that doesn't cost a fortune.

I'm so sick of my cordless dyson. It was great when I got it but now struggles to pick up a crumb and claims to be blocked all the time (it's not blocked). I can't afford to spend that sort of money these days, just want something reasonably priced and effective! Corded too. Please tell me about your reliable vacuum cleaners?!

Henry. Love him now but resisted him for years in favour of increasingly annoying dysons. I will admit that we also have a small shark cordless handheld for stairs and kids beds.

Gooseysgirl · 30/12/2022 00:02

Miele - have had it almost 12 years, still going strong!

A Sebo every time. Not fancy or brimming with attachments but does the job better than any other make I have had before.

I always think that a Sebo is like a Volvo or an old green Land Rover. Solid, sturdy, reliable and will last forever. My Shark was definitely a boy racer's car: flash, lots of lights and fancy bits, but not great really and entirely impractical.

AEG cylinder.

My teen commented it looks oldfashined but it works brilliantly.

TilesAndPoop · 30/12/2022 00:34

i bought it, the AEG post divorce as money was and is tight. Had Dysons previously and whilst initially good they were a pain eventually. Aeg is going strong 2 years in.

Funkyblues101 · 30/12/2022 00:36

Mieles last for 10-20 years. I'm shocked at people proclaiming their vacuums are "still going strong" after 3 years. Up your expectations!

mynamesnotMa · 30/12/2022 00:39

Ive Henry brilliant until some ejit used it to suck the contents of a sink a Dyson then Shark lift away which blocks constantly Now back to Henry

StrawberryPot · 30/12/2022 00:42

Henry without a doubt. I've had an a range of brands in recent years - including Dyson, Miele, Shark. I'd give anything for a lightweight, upright vacuum cleaner that really works as I don't like dragging the Henry around. But nothing else has ever come close in terms of efficiency.

Nitgel · 30/12/2022 07:29

Miele, never had to faff about cleaning filters etc.

BrokenWing · 30/12/2022 11:41

Appears Henry is very popular on this thread. How often do you have to buy/change bags?

I googled and on line it says they can last 6 months! We emply our bagless shite shark several times a week (labrador!). Anyone with a dog, how long do bags last?

TheCurseOfBoris · 30/12/2022 11:51

I've got a Harry (Henry but with pet filter). It's the best I've ever had and wished I had one years ago. Nothing else compares.

Nigelladamascena · 30/12/2022 12:28

Can I ask which Miele do people have?

gogohmm · 30/12/2022 12:38

Henry, can't be beaten

3 labs here, including one very old who moults like crazy. I've had a Henry Pet for about 4 years and, while I don't like dragging it around, it is just SO powerful and efficient (million times better than the dysons and mieles I've had). Probably change the bag every 3-4 months? Have also had a couple of cordless ones (one a shark) which were worse than useless (worse because, no matter how much cleaning and emptying I did, they kept clogging up and spitting out more stuff than they picked up).

I also use the brush attachment to vacuum the dog that moults a lot (he loves it!)

Get a Shark if you can afford it.
Numatics (Henry etc) are designed for office carpets, so great for hard floors or thin carpets, no use for any carpet with a pile

My Shark was absolutely useless and is dumped in the shed at the moment! My Henry works just as well on the massive thick pile rug we have in the living room as it does on thin bedroom carpets and the slate kitchen floor.

We had a carpet fitted recently and the carpet fitters had a Henry with them so I presume they also think it's okay to use on different types of carpet.

Miele Cat & Dog - the latest one

ScarlettSunset · 30/12/2022 17:16

I've had many vacuum cleaners over the years. Mostly they were just rubbish at actually vacuuming.
I've got a Henry now though and it's awesome.

BrokenWing · 30/12/2022 17:59

Vacuumed today using the useless shark again and I've had enough of it, gave it to dh to finish off the stairs (he hates it too). I am perusing the Henry website now.

They have so many different heads available. What is the best head for hairy stairs? Is the hose long enough for a flight of stairs?

Stressfordays · 30/12/2022 18:13

100% Henry. Its indestructible. I have 2 house rabbits, 2 cats and 3 kids under 10 and it handles it like a pro. I've got a shark cordless in my cupboard that I hate, I've had sharks and Dyson before and they get knackered and lose suction so quick. Kept blocking etc.

WhiteCatmas · 30/12/2022 18:21

I bought a shark after seeing them praised on here.
It was shit.
Heavy, clogged easily, hair got trapped despite having a special hair removal feature.
I had to buy a special attachement to do the stairs which then broke.
I bought a Miele to replace it.
BEST DECISION EVER.
The suction power is so incredibly strong is occasionally sticks to the floor. It can suck all the lint out of the weird vents on my tumble dryer.
It is so silent I can clean with people in the room.
I love it.

Henry. The workhorse of builders.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2022 20:41

Henry bags are huge and last for months.

spotddog · 30/12/2022 20:43

Any Henry is good. Check website and/or call them. Really good customer service.
