To have been entitled over Xmas sleeping arrangements

Staying with PIL over Christmas. 3 bedrooms and 7 adults.

Obviously PIL stay in their own bedroom which leaves a spare room with a double bed, spare with a single bed and sofa bed in living room (which is horrendously uncomfortable).

I have pushed for us to have the double spare bed and:

BIL 1 have single spare bedroom which to me makes sense because there’s one of him and it seems madness that it was a possibility he’d get a double while a couple share a single.

BIL 2 and SIL get awful sofa bed. I feel guilty about this because if I don’t want to sleep there, why should they?

Normally I go with the flow and usually get a raw deal but I’m 7 months pregnant and can barely sleep as it is and the thought of that uneven, springy bed for 4 nights makes me not want to go.

I think you should have stepped back and hoped that somebody else suggested you get the double bed (or the single bed and DH sleep in the floor)

Obeythedancecommander · 23/12/2022 12:36

At 7 months pregnant 100% you should get the double. If the sil and bil let you go on the sofa bed whilst they have the double I'd not be impressed at all.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 23/12/2022 12:37

YANBU because you're pregnant... but if there aren't comfortable beds for everyone, why does everyone stay there? Surely someone could stay at a hotel/AirBnB/drive home?

You're fine this year, but presumably if you make them have the awful bed this year, the next time you all go round, it'll be your turn for the awful bed...

Would PIL upgrade it to a comfier one, if you all chipped in? Do you stay enough for that to be worthwhile?

We slept on my in-laws uncomfortable sofa bed for two nights, two years running; and never again. For many reasons, but I'm glad the precedent of that bed has been broken!

custardbear · 23/12/2022 12:37

Yep bed or drive home!

MusicstillonMTV · 23/12/2022 12:37

You're heavily pregnant, of course you get the bed.

Can BIL and SIL pick up an air mattress? You can get some decent ones now

Y7drama · 23/12/2022 12:39

You should get the double as you’re 7months pregnant but I’d definitely chip in for a comfier sofa bed!

PortiasBiscuit · 23/12/2022 12:40

This is exactly why God created the Premier Inn.

BabyYoZenZen · 23/12/2022 12:41

I'd use being pregnant as an excuse to stay at a hotel!

boredOf · 23/12/2022 12:42

One Christmas the child free couples in my DH family took the spare rooms.
We got the living room us and 3DC
What the actual FU&k!!! Who lets that happen. Grrrrrrrrr
Stupid PiL and selfish siblings
Living room was part of kitchen and dining room and one of those dc was a baby :(

GCAcademic · 23/12/2022 12:42

Another one who would be chomping at the bit to stay in a hotel and get some time to myself.

To be fair, ould you have preferred to be stuck in a bedroom in the morning with the kids / baby whilst others were sleeping in the lounge?

Doesn't this make absolute sense because kids get up first?

Yeah I would think there are definitely some good reasons to have gone that way - would have hated to try and coop up children upstairs while adults were sleeping downstairs.. mine want their breakfast early!

toomuchlaundry · 23/12/2022 12:46

I would have stayed at home 😳

Me too. Xmas Grin

@EntitledIthink Have you thought what you will do next year?

WhatNoRaisins · 23/12/2022 12:48

Any decent person would be offering someone heavily pregnant the comfortable bed. That said it's fine for people to re-think this arrangement, sleeping in the living room isn't for everyone.

Lkydfju · 23/12/2022 12:48

When pregnant you definitely get the bed!

Why would people who take the comfy bed every year suddenly give a shit about OP because she's pregnant?

The two couple should be taking turns on the sofa bed in previoous years.

Has everyone agreed OP? Put your foot down!

arethereanyleftatall · 23/12/2022 12:49

All chip in a fiver per adult to buy an airbed so that no one has to sleep anywhere uncomfortable. Tenner each for a posh one.

EntitledIthink · 23/12/2022 12:49

@fancyacuppatea go to my parents! This will be the last year everyone is child free so unlikely to come up again

But they're usually going to bed first but would have to wait until everyone else does

SeenAndNot · 23/12/2022 12:53

7 months pregnant you need the better bed.

Rosecoffeecup · 23/12/2022 12:54

Has anyone suggested you should be on the sofa bed instead? Only an arsehole would take a bed and put a pregnant woman on a sofa bed, surely

Wonnle · 23/12/2022 12:54

I vote for the "stay at home" option at 7 months pregnant

It's fine for us to state our needs, especially when pregnant.
