To be depressed and angry that sex offenders will be able to “change gender”

Ramblingnamechanger · 21/12/2022 18:22

Following last nights vote by MSPs to reject an amendment to forbid sex offenders from accessing easier access to a GRC, it seems that womens rights to privacy and decency , same sex care , etc is not important. They are still to vote on the whole bill but until the legalities are clearer, surely this cannot be acceptable?

It only looks like a short period of time because of the relatively short time it’s been public and that’s a feature not a bug. It’s very deliberately been done behind the scenes for years

they’ve been positioning themselves for years. Getting law, finance and comms on stonewalls board. Working closely with the Lib Dem’s when they were in coalition. Getting people on boards and committees. Meeting civil servants behind closed doors

this is the last phases playing out of a campaign that’s been over 20 years on the making

Scottish Women are second class citizens it seems. 😡

@Theeyeballsinthesky there is a lot to dismantle, slowly but surely it is being done.

Whilst the recent FWS judgement and the passing of the GRR in Scotland are steps back they are shedding a lot of light and sensible journalists are starting to ask more awkward questions and the public are becoming more and more aware of the issues.

There are more cases such as Rachel Meade, Jo Phoenix, IamSarah, Alison’s appeal etc. which will raise further debate.

We are still waiting for the judgement in the Mermaids vs Charity Commission and the final Cass report.

I think a key area where we can make a difference is pushing for accurate data gathering and analysis. The lack of data is a big issue in rebutting/supporting claims.

Rainbowshit · 22/12/2022 22:18

The SNP do really, really well in elections.

Yes they do. But they're doing exactly what Labour in Scotland did. They got too complacent. History shows that voting patterns can change in a flash.

We shall see if this is Sturgeon's poll tax as some have called it.

Thanks:) It comes at a cost- every time I log into Mumsnet I have the instrumental paying over and over in my head lol!

I've started singing your name whenever the radio station plays Fairytale of New York. Which is pretty often this time of year.

ILoveeCakes · 22/12/2022 22:40

You've been deliberately dishonest in your thread title. The rules apply to ALL PEOPLE. There isn't some specific carve out for sex offenders.

Haha to be fair it's from a meme I saw so I can't take complete credit.

Gonners · 22/12/2022 20:51

@Gonners sadly Passports have been issued with preferred gender/sex for some time, you don’t need a GRC.

Really? I simply filled in the online form and don't recall any mention of a "gender" option - and I do think I'd have noticed. The passport clearly says "sex". So if I'd wanted to pretend I was male, I would have had to lie.

You can change the sex on your passport with just a letter from your GP:

www.gov.uk/changing-passport-information/gender

You can change the sex on your drivers licence by self-ID. The gov website says you must provide a statutory declaration (which is self-ID):

www.gov.uk/id-for-driving-licence

In 2018 one of the excellent chaps from ManFriday was granted a change of sex on their licence without providing any supporting docs at all. It's not clear whether this has changed since then.

And shouldn't there be? Shouldn't someone who has so little dysphoria over his penis that he is able to shove it into an unwilling woman, child or man, be banned from being granted a GRC?

Ramblingnamechanger · 22/12/2022 22:48

Thanks for posting the polls here, Britinme. I knew the figures but seeing the charts made it clearer.
I wonder if there is any chance of getting men who become CEOs of womens centres being prosecuted for fraud when they pretended they were women to get jobs advertised for women? False declaration and all that?

Did you know that sex offenders (SEX OFFENDERS!) are also allowed to go to Tesco? Yes, because that is a sub-category of "all people". I await you interrogating everyone who tries to pass through their front doors

Ramblingnamechanger · 22/12/2022 22:53

Iloveecakes there is no such thing as true trans, and most of us really don’t want potentially more opportunities opening up for predators. Please research the men who de transition after they leave their special places in womens jails. A ban on males in womens spaces would help a lot.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 22/12/2022 22:58

Is Tesco a good comparator to "women's hospital wards", or "women's prisons"?

LangClegsInSpace · 22/12/2022 23:02

So now birth certificates can also be falsified by self-ID there is no documentation left that reliably records a man as male and not a woman. It's all erased. Sex is erased.

My heart breaks for women & girls in Scotland tonight Flowers

But this affects all of us, throughout the UK. Scottish GRC holders won't be crossing the border waving a GRC, that the UK government can choose to accept or not. They'll be waving a brand new, falsified birth certificate which has already been issued. There will be no way to tell (on paper, they still haven't managed to outlaw eyes) that it's a falsified certificate. And if there was a way to tell it would be a criminal offence to say so anyway except in a very limited set of circumstances, none of which have to do with preserving single sex services.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 22/12/2022 23:03

extract

FDJ, Former female offender, England

“Being in prison with male prisoners, you always feel on edge. You know something could happen at any time. We know they are not women. They are physically threatening and aggressive. I was sexually assaulted and I am not the only woman who has been. They haven’t had surgery and they expose themselves. One of them had been told he couldn’t shower at the same time as us women. He made a formal complaint and said this was a breach of his human rights. So now he is allowed to shower with us. And because he now has that right, the other males have that right too. There’s only a shower curtain between us. He moves the curtain so we can all see his penis when he is washing himself or shaving his legs. This is disgusting and I think it is disgusting that the prison allows this.

We can’t complain about anything. They are very well protected and it feels like our rights as women just don’t count. We have to call them ‘she’ and ‘her’ and have to use their female names. If we don’t, we are punished and lose our enhanced prisoner or D-Category status. It is horrible to do that to women.

I am very upset that I lost my legal case. I can’t understand how anyone can say that imprisoning males alongside women is the right thing to do. The prisoner who attacked me was convicted of the most serious sexual offences against girls and still has his penis. How can the government say that putting him in prison with women is the right thing to do? It’s not. I am out of prison now. But I think about all the other women still in prison who have to live with these males. This is dangerous, disgusting and wrong.”

From: Women In Prison Speak Out

Every single woman in there is someone's daughter.
Is sharing showers with naked women who can't leave really like going to the supermarket?

AlisonDonut · 22/12/2022 23:05

There is a specific loophole for trans people.

They are the only people allowed to not put their old names on DBS applications.

The 'system' relies on them calling a specific number to declare this.

So sex offenders and potentially murderers can be in your schools as if they don't call up, nobody will know.

Still, should be fine. We all know how honest ex criminals are.

LangClegsInSpace · 22/12/2022 23:05

I have never expected to have to undress, discuss my trauma, sleep or receive intimate care in Tesco Hmm

Also, if you were caught shoplifting in Tesco, or physically assaulted/verbally abused staff, you might get a lifetime ban from entering the store.

Yet we can't ban rapists from being given a pass to enter women's changing rooms or hospital wards?

The Tesco comparison shows that women are apparently less important and less worthy of protections than inanimate supermarket goods!

FOJN · 22/12/2022 23:17

ILoveeCakes · 22/12/2022 22:40

You've been deliberately dishonest in your thread title. The rules apply to ALL PEOPLE. There isn't some specific carve out for sex offenders.

It helps if you understand the context of the thread title before you accuse the OP of being dishonest.

The Scottish GRR allows transwomen to be treated as women in all circumstances. That's ALL circumstances, good luck requesting a female HCP for intimate healthcare.

With a GRC there is no way for anyone to link the crimes of John Smith with Jane Smith who is now applying for a job in a nursery (for example) because of trans people's right to privacy. Effective safeguarding and DBS checks now rely on someone with a GRC disclosing their previous names, surely you can see a problem with safeguarding depending on the honesty of a convicted sex offender.

As a result of this insanity there was an amendment proposed which would have prevented convicted sex offenders obtaining a GRC so that the safeguarding risks could be minimised. The Scottish Parliament rejected that amendment which now means there are no safeguards to stop convicted sex offenders concealing their criminal history and gaining access to victims.

I might find sex offenders despicable but no one is trying to deny them the right to enter supermarkets to buy food. I would however like them to stay out of the ladies toilets whilst they are there.

Meet Katie Dolatowski who assaulted a 10 year old and a 12 year old in two different supermarket toilets, although the article only mentions one offence. Having assaulted a fellow male prison inmate Katie has now been moved to a female prison. I hope the problems here are obvious.

LangClegsInSpace · 22/12/2022 23:22

I can't take a poster seriously who thinks that Tesco is a suitable comparator to the single sex services that women are losing. It would be hilarious if it was not so disgusting.

EsmaCannonball · 22/12/2022 23:57

I bet every single politician who voted for this would develop a sudden stomach bug and decide to stay in after all if they booked a babysitting service or agency nanny and the person who knocked on their door was a man identifying as a woman. There'd be no TWAW then.

SinnerBoy · 23/12/2022 00:20

I think a key area where we can make a difference is pushing for accurate data gathering and analysis. The lack of data is a big issue in rebutting/supporting claims.

But that's exactly what they want. They don't want people to be able to prove that they were wrong, wrong, wrong all along and that they knew it perfectly well.
