To be depressed and angry that sex offenders will be able to “change gender”

Ramblingnamechanger · 21/12/2022 18:22

Following last nights vote by MSPs to reject an amendment to forbid sex offenders from accessing easier access to a GRC, it seems that womens rights to privacy and decency , same sex care , etc is not important. They are still to vote on the whole bill but until the legalities are clearer, surely this cannot be acceptable?

From www.gov.scot/publications/gender-recognition-reform-scotland-bill-more-information/

"Meaning of ‘transgender’ or ‘trans’
These are terms used to describe people whose gender identity does not correspond with their sex recorded at birth and what is recorded on their birth certificate.

Meaning of ‘gender recognition’

Under the UK’s Gender Recognition Act 2004, trans people can apply for a Gender Recognition Certificate (“GRC”), which enables them to be legally recognised in their acquired gender and be issued with a new birth certificate."

So, if gender is not linked to sex (as per "meaning of 'transgender' or 'trans'"), why does recognising someone's gender have anything to do with legal sex or birth certificates? Birth certificates don't record gender so there's nothing to change there.

Why can't they just recognise people's gender if they feel it necessary and keep it totally separate from anything to do with sex?

Entwifery · 21/12/2022 18:38

They would still be sex offenders, no? It wouldn't wipe them off the sex offender registry. Don't see what difference it makes.

Um...the prison they're put in?

You're expecting it to make sense??

Theeyeballsinthesky · 22/12/2022 16:58

Quite you’re dealing with a movement that has says things in the past like a male baby trying to pull open it’s romper suit so it hangs like open like a dress could be demonstrating a wish to be a girl

The Bill has passed. Farewell single sex spaces for women in Scotland

It's this and so much more:

Goodbye to safety and fairness in sport
Goodbye to female prison officers and police officers being able to refuse to intimately search male prisoners/suspects
Goodbye to female prison inmates and suspects automatically being searched by female prison/police officers
Goodbye to women being able to have ANY space for ANY reason which can exclude males
Goodbye to women being able to request female healthcare practitioners
Goodbye to giving gender confused/questioning/distressed adolescents the time, space and support to explore and consider their options
Goodbye to accurate data collection
Goodbye to law based on reality
Goodbye to effective safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults

The new reality for the women of Scotland.

To be depressed and angry that sex offenders will be able to “change gender”
sst1234 · 22/12/2022 17:18

It’s a sad day for women in Scotland. But hey what’s a bit of rape and sexual assault for a woman as long as they all the make collective sacrifice on protecting men’s feelings.

sst1234 · 22/12/2022 17:19

If you live in Scotland and you have children, good luck with protecting them. You’re going to need it.

minsmum · 22/12/2022 18:05

This is a sad day for all women and girls in the entire UK. What can we do about it, there must be something

Rainbowshit · 22/12/2022 18:05

Every post I've seen on this on Facebook has loads of angry reactions. Do the SNP just live in a bubble where they are completely removed from public opinion on this?

DogsAkimbo · 22/12/2022 18:07

I’m trying to understand why NS has gone ahead with driving this. Does she really think it won’t cause the issues that women have raised? Does she not believe the many examples that have already occurred? I’m trying to understand her motivation - for a seemingly intelligent woman - why?

Two reasons. Because she’s a jobsworth. When you can make meaningful improvements for the public, you find busy work. She’s obviously too incompetent to do anything about Scottish education or health so she does to make herself look like a leader. It was the same with Covid restriction. Her entire raison d’etre is that she’s different to the UK government. Not better, just different.

The other trains is that she wants to provoke Westminster to intervene. So she can play the nationalist card as usual.

It’s a sad day for Scottish women and children. Look after yourselves. Your government won’t.

TintinHadToBeMale · 22/12/2022 18:23

Not unreasonable, and I would like to know how this movement for the rights of men to destroy women’s spaces has gained so much traction in so little time, when women’s rights to equality have never been recognised.

This is about forcing women out of public and economic life imo.

It's a double whammy for the women and children of Scotland because all the amendments which would have forced monitoring and accurate data collection were rejected so there will be no data to evidence claims the bill is having an adverse effect only anecdote which the Scottish Government will just dismiss.

Write to your MP and request that they share your concerns with the minister for Equalities, and the MoJ.

Be very clear that your vote will not go to any party where what ever they offer comes at the price of you and all other women belonging to a subclass and accepting less rights, freedoms and safety because of your biological sex. (Which you're not allowed to mention for fear of making men sad.)

Talk. To everyone. With care and discretion as you feel able to, because this agenda is vile and punishments are real for daring to be subversive, but however you can, talk . Even if you can only do so here, supporting other women and the grassroots groups fighting this.

It will only be when women get angry enough and loud enough in large enough numbers and enough votes start being lost that we are going to see politicians actually do anything.

Gonners · 22/12/2022 19:02

I assume the next thing will be UK passports, which the Scots are stuck with for the time being. I've recently had mine renewed - like all its predecessors, it says "Sex - F". Are there enough TRAs in Scotland to get independence through on the basis of that alone?

(Mind you, the new passport also refers to "Her Britannic Majesty" because they hadn't had them reprinted by November. I suspect fixing that might take precedence over changing Sex to Gender.)

Disabrie22 · 22/12/2022 19:09

The problem here is sex offenders - we’ve got to get better and better at catching them - and absolutely no sex offender should be given the right to go in a female prison if they change. It’s common sense that those who are danger to society will be a danger to women.

MaddieHayes · 22/12/2022 19:31

But these are sex offenders who have already been caught and sentenced. The problem here is the administration who allows them to go to women's prisons.

It is common sense that men are more likely to be a danger to women than women are likely to be a danger to other women.

Ramblingnamechanger · 22/12/2022 19:59

Even more depressed today. For those new to this, please write to your MPs to ask them to ensure the preservation of same sex care , single sex facilities, and prevent even more males being placed in womens prisons. there are several however that think this presents no problem, so we should all let them know exactly why this is a problem for half the population.

I can't sodding believe it. My opinion on this is that a lie should never be written into the law - all other evils flow from that. Mind, public organisations have been acting as if self-ID we're already law in all the UK.

That single sex spaces have to even be defended is incredible - "for privacy and dignity" is all that should be needed.

What a mess.

@Gonners sadly Passports have been issued with preferred gender/sex for some time, you don’t need a GRC.

Gonners · 22/12/2022 20:51

Really? I simply filled in the online form and don't recall any mention of a "gender" option - and I do think I'd have noticed. The passport clearly says "sex". So if I'd wanted to pretend I was male, I would have had to lie.

YouScumbagYouMaggotHeresKevinTheCarrot · 22/12/2022 20:55

This is a disgrace.

It's a disgrace it's been pushed through.

It's a shame it's been done without the knowledge of the public, deliberately so.

And it's a disgrace that women have been silenced from raising the alarm. And that includes Mumsnet who are complicit by sidlining it off to the naughty corner every time it is raised.

I hope all you "I hide the sex and gender thread/hyperbole/transphobic/oppressed minority" mumsnetters in Scotland have boys. Because the girls and women are fucked.

Why would they care unless that anger is translated into losses at the ballot box? The SNP do really, really well in elections.

The data field is sex and yes some trans people put their chosen “sex”. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/251703/Applying_for_a_passport_additional_information.PDF
