My son wants cellotape for xmas

My 9 yr old son loves cello-tape ( and staplers, scissors) and makes ‘ models’ from our junk waste. I have saved some interesting junk waste and bought some patterned cellotape and a staple free stapler ( packaged into a gift box) for a Xmas. My husband thinks this is (pun) a rubbish gift. AIBU to give him cellotape and junk because he will love it ( he has other larger gifts)

Buy him a multi pack and make him happy!

Aquamarine1029 · 18/12/2022 00:15

I think it's brilliant. I love cellotape. Always have.

NooneKnowsWhatItsLike · 18/12/2022 00:16

If it makes him happy who cares what anyone else thinks?

I used to love getting writing sets at Christmas- no doubt others thought it was naff but I loved writing stories and letters and was very happy!

Iam4eels · 18/12/2022 00:16

Give him it, he will love it!

My middle DC went through a phase of being obsessed with bubble wrap so for months I saved packaging that had bubble wrap and asked friends and family to do the same. He was over the moon on Christmas morning and even now, nine years later, still talks about it as the best present ever.

NuffSaidSam · 18/12/2022 00:17

No, it's great. Add in some double sided tape and masking tape too.

CrackerIsland · 18/12/2022 00:18

No, it’s a great gift. I gave my DS 10, an enormous cardboard box fir his birthday - he loves it!

Georgeandzippyzoo · 18/12/2022 00:18

I still love getting stuff like that now! As a kid I'd have loved it!!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 18/12/2022 00:18

Dd loved sellotape for a present.

HedgehogB · 18/12/2022 00:18

I once gave my son post it notes. He loved them.

HerRoyalNotness · 18/12/2022 00:19

He’ll never forget. You listened and got what he wanted. My son wanted a bottle of maple syrup one year. Just for him. We always have it in the house but I bought him a special shaped bottle of it, he was thrilled

iPreferBooks · 18/12/2022 00:20

A cellotape dispenser could be an idea if you haven't already got one! :)

JonahAndTheSnail · 18/12/2022 00:20

I see no problem. You could always offer to take him to a stationery store for the Boxing Day sales if you think he's been short changed.

whatisheupto · 18/12/2022 00:21

Get him a really good dispenser too.... one of the more expensive heavy ones. Theyre a game changer! and maybe some of the big wide packing tape rather than just the normal little rolls.

WeDoNotTalktoPennilynLott · 18/12/2022 00:21

I read that as tape for a cello.

give him sellotape if that's what he wants, it's very useful stuff! I love stationery

bizzywiththefizzy · 18/12/2022 00:21

aww that's really cute , bless him .😁

WandaWonder · 18/12/2022 00:22

It's sounds a brilliant gift, I think you can get pattern tape too and fun holders for it

Daffodilsandtuplips · 18/12/2022 00:23

I also think it’s a brilliant idea, in fact I’ve bought my GS 12, a Sellotape dispenser by Rapesco and a supply of sellotape as one of his Christmas presents He too loves ‘model making’ with cardboard boxes and anything else he can find. In fact I save bottle tops, interesting packaging and other stuff I think he’ll make use of.
Hell love it op.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 18/12/2022 00:24

The tape dispenser I’ve got him is a weighted one. We’ve had one for years, it’s a Godsend.

TheArtfulStodger · 18/12/2022 00:25

I started getting blutack for one of my kids for Xmas, til she started getting it stuck in her hair at bedtime. She would still love this as a present now.

Sorry I read your thread, you mentioned pattern

You could add craft things to it so he has a project to work on, maybe with lolly sticks?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/12/2022 00:26

He will love it, I always put a variation of blu tack, sellotape or Pritt stick in my DS's

AmyDudley · 18/12/2022 00:26

washi tape is cool too and comes in many colours and patterns (you can get it in the works/poundland/b and m etc.)
My mum used to get me big carrier bags full of fabric scraps she'd gathered from friends, neighbours and sewing projects, because I loved making stuff out of them - they were the best Christmas presents.
I've just had a birthday (63 !) and my sister gave me lot of scraps of paper, ribbons, lace and bits of dried lichen, moss and twigs - I was so pleased - I will have such good fun with it !

Your boy will love his cellotape.

quiteoldad · 18/12/2022 00:27

If he's really into modelmaking, get him a hot melt glue gun and some glue sticks. I picked up both of these for a fiver. From Poundland... I think.

thaegumathteth · 18/12/2022 00:28

A heavy bottomed dispenser would be good if you don't have one?

I think it's great, personal gift. Dd once asked for a roll of bubble wrap and was DELIGHTED with it.

DuplicateUserName · 18/12/2022 00:28

Get him some dispensers too...oh and a big roll of glue spots!

Glue spots are life changing (dramatic much? 😊) when it comes to crafting.

Double-sided sticky tape is also a yes!
