My son wants cellotape for xmas

My 9 yr old son loves cello-tape ( and staplers, scissors) and makes ‘ models’ from our junk waste. I have saved some interesting junk waste and bought some patterned cellotape and a staple free stapler ( packaged into a gift box) for a Xmas. My husband thinks this is (pun) a rubbish gift. AIBU to give him cellotape and junk because he will love it ( he has other larger gifts)

If he likes it then you're literally giving him what he wants - he will be delighted!

I've got my son some foxs biscuits (amongst his other gifts of course), and I know he will be so over the moon with them - every time we go into b&m he picks the box up and shouts me over 😂😂

It's all about what they like and if he likes cellotape then to him, it's the best gift ever ❤️❤️👏👏

When she was about 9/10, my DD wanted Blu-Tac for Christmas!
She love modelling with it, in the same way as you would use plasticine!
We got her about 3 packs for her stocking and she was happy as Larry!

A heavy bottomed dispenser would be good if you don't have one?

I think it's great, personal gift. Dd once asked for a roll of bubble wrap and was DELIGHTED with it.

Did you pop it under the tree for her?

Sorry, I'll get me coat > > > >

they make patterned duct tape which he might find fun, as well as crafters washi tape. don't forget colored pipe cleaners. :)

SweetSakura · 18/12/2022 00:33

My 9 year old daughter asked for blu tak for Christmas Grin I have bought her 3 different colours. It was the only thing she specifically asked for. Be glad they have simple wishes!

(I have bought her some surprises too - some big Lego,. Art supplies, a squishmallow etc)

X-post! Sounds like my DD isn't the only one Grin

Not really the same but you can get Velcro dots too

BoxOfCats · 18/12/2022 00:37

I remember when I was small my best friend had the most amazing thing - a box of buttons! They were all different shapes and colours. I remember marvelling at some particularly beautiful ones that had crystals in the shape of a flower. I would have loved it if someone had given me a box of buttons as a gift!

My friends two year old has asked for broccoli!

JockTamsonsBairns · 18/12/2022 00:43

YANBU at all. If that's what he's got his heart set on, then there's no reason why you wouldn't do that for him.

How about one of those metal sellotape 'dispensers' (can't think of the right word), the type found in offices?

PurpleSproutingSomething · 18/12/2022 00:45

Type patterned tape into Amazon and get him a selection! He'll love it.

My friends two year old has asked for broccoli!

Oh god, that's so sweet.
When my DS was 4, he was so desperate for one of those big wind up extension cables. I got him it, and he was over the moon!

SingingSands · 18/12/2022 00:45

It's brilliant and he'll love it!

My brother still fondly remembers the Christmas he got a ball of string! Grin

DinosaurFarmer · 18/12/2022 00:50

That sounds brilliant OP - both of my sons (10 and 12) love making creations out of tape and cardboard etc. They both have tape and blue tack in their stockings! 😂

BellePeppa · 18/12/2022 00:51

Get it for him. My son wanted Blu Tack for Christmas once so I popped some in his stocking.

Oh I love this!

squidgybits · 18/12/2022 00:54

I love this! I would have been chuffed to bits to have my own at that age rather than keeping getting told off for using the family stuff

Rtmhwales · 18/12/2022 00:58

We did DSS2's entire stocking full of tape last year. It's what he really wanted.

vera99 · 18/12/2022 01:00

That's made my day he might end up being a sculptor or conceptual artist when he gets older or an architect the msall things can be the best things. To hell with Lego Pirate Ships !

Love that! 😂

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 18/12/2022 01:06

Add some Washi tape, a craft trolley from hobby craft and a fantastic variety of patterned duck tape too!

Raera · 18/12/2022 01:07

Add some balls of string that would be heaven for my grandson?

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 18/12/2022 01:09

I once asked for crayons and got this bad boy! I'm now a Graphic Designer

If it’s what he wants then get it!

My kids are getting a plunger each for Christmas (plus other things but that’s the only strange gift).

When DD was 3 she took a shine to a set of Allen keys. She slept with them and everything and took them to nursery. We needed them back so we got a new set for her birthday 🤣 (which she didn’t want she wanted the old ones. Weirdo).

Jinglehop · 18/12/2022 01:21

get him a motex selkotape tape dispenser. The one with a wheel. Someone bought one for my dc as a present years ago and it is still a treasured item!
