That people shouldn't start threads they can't deal with?

Just that really - too many threads that people have to have moved / deleted because they don't care for the replies! Happens too often and makes posting replies a waste of time Hmm!

And it's not a TAAT - it's a trend that seems to be getting better worse

KateBain · 12/12/2022 19:19

People should try not being arseholes when responding to a thread.

CruCru · 12/12/2022 19:24

Depends. For some I agree - I remember someone once started a thread to talk about how wonderful her favourite singer was and got it deleted when a bunch of people said he was a bit of a twat. That was ridiculous.

But, as KateBain said, there are some people on here who do their absolute best to be horrors. To the point of being weird.

Lockheart · 12/12/2022 19:24

Mumsnet is entertainment, if you think it isn't a waste of time regardless I think you need to re-evaluate how you spend said time.

solomam · 12/12/2022 19:26

People don't know they "can't deal with" the replies until they, well, see the replies 😂
So they post not knowing what they are going to get by way of replies and when people are plain nasty and unpleasant they quite understandably just want it to stop. I think that's fair enough. 🤷‍♀️

CruCru · 12/12/2022 19:29

I think posting on AIBU when you are a bit vulnerable is a bit unwise.

ColdHandsHotHead · 12/12/2022 19:30

People are often surprised by the way threads turn out though.

It has meant a lot to me at times when I had no other source of support. So not just entertainment.

toffeeapple77 · 12/12/2022 19:36

It just feels annoying when people post something divisive, get people's opinions, then 3 pages in say how awful it all is as they're already depressed and people are sticking the boot in and making them feel worse. Or they say the replies are very triggering for them because insert backstory.
People shouldn't be needlessly unpleasant but you shouldn't ask an opinion if you can only deal with one type of response that is positive and reinforces your own world view!

Tiredallofthetime · 12/12/2022 19:36

Indeed

Tiredallofthetime · 12/12/2022 19:37

Sorry - thought I quoted @KateBain

The problem is threads take a life of their own.

People should try not being arseholes when responding to a thread.

This. Sometimes a pile-on happens that's completely disproportionate.

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 12/12/2022 19:58

There are times when a poster takes all the replies in good part & accepts quite quickly that she’s BU. All good.

But all the idiots who can’t be arsed to read all her posts first will keep telling her off because of her original post. When that happens I don’t blame someone for getting a thread deleted.

JamSandle · 12/12/2022 19:59

There's lots of nasty replies so YABU.

Darthwazette · 12/12/2022 20:00

People on here can be unnecessarily aggressive and nasty. You can disagree with someone and still be pleasant.

Tiredallofthetime · 12/12/2022 20:01

I’m liking you tonight @PlaitBilledDuckyPuss

Just thought I would say that.

doodleygirl · 12/12/2022 20:01

You are aware this is public forum and people can deal with their threads how they choose.

I personally can’t stand the people who obviously don’t have a real life and start bating the OP if they haven’t responded in about 10 minutes.

Ijuststoodonlego · 12/12/2022 20:02

I was typing a reply to a thread there now (a nice reply) and the OP was getting blasted (I thought unfairly so). As I went to press post it said thread deleted. Shame.

CarefreeMe · 12/12/2022 20:03

YANBU

It usually gets deleted when the replies aren’t going the way they want.

However, MN is getting worse for keyboard warriors and I’ve noticed that some posters come onto threads literally just to have a dig at OP or other posters.

There was one where the OP had broken down and was worrying about missing her doctors appointment - so many posters were unbelievably vile to her and if I was her I would have had it deleted much sooner than she did.

TiAmoTiAmo · 12/12/2022 20:05

I feel if an op wants to post they should be upfront about any vulnerability or difficulties they are going through so at least posters can reply with that in mind. Telling people later that you have X going on just doesn't come across as genuine, it comes across as an excuse for not liking the replies particularly when you have chosen the wrong board deliberately just for traffic (such as posting on AIBU when it could have been posted in parenting or relationships or weight loss boards).
I think it's right that people have the freedom to request deletion.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/12/2022 20:07

The ones that annoy me are where the OP sets out a situation, almost everybody else says 'YABU' but many are asking sensible, relevant questions. OP comes back and thanks the one person who said 'YANBU' (or more likely just didn't outright say 'YABU'). OP just ignores all the relevant questions. (There's one running at the moment just like that.) Why ask a question if you're not prepared for disagreement?

changeme4this · 12/12/2022 20:08

My frustration is with the threads where people ask for opinions yet don't return to let us know how they resolved the original problem...

But yes there are some unnecessarily rude people on here too.

MrsMyfanwy · 12/12/2022 20:10

Some people are more vulnerable than they think, just give people some slack, they are not here for our entertainment

travelhelp · 12/12/2022 20:10

I don't mind people pulling threads, I think we should all be able to, like on other forums.

People change their minds or make mistakes or just don't realise how they'll feel when replies roll in. They're just human.

Yes I'm aware. But I don't really like the tone of your reply.... it's upset me that you'd be so snarky to suggest I don't know how mumsnet works so I think I'll ask for this to be removed.
