To be utterly sick and tired of football protesters?

Is anybody else sick and tired of people protesting during the World Cup and feel like it's ruining it? I think we are all aware now of where this world cup is and the atrocities that helped build the stadium - but we don't need reminding every 5 minutes IMO. I feel like people can make their own mind up whether to watch or not, and not have people protesting and ruining the games for everyone else.

I didn’t know football protesters were a thing until this post.

Which stadium? What happened?

SavingKitten · 09/12/2022 20:44

I haven’t seen anyone protesting at all. I saw lots of people moaning on tv at the start of it but nothing since.

Leeds2 · 09/12/2022 20:45

I am a football fan, and have no idea what you are talking about. Please can you give me some links?

Keyansier · 09/12/2022 20:46

People protesting because of the football matches in Qatar. Someone had just protested during the Argentina game.

The point of protesting is to ‘ruin it’. Be pointless otherwise.

melj1213 · 09/12/2022 20:47

The broadcasters are literally not giving them airtime ... Why highlight it by talking about it when that's exactly what they want?

Yes, but not to the detriment of everyone else watching it who's enjoying it.

I’ve only watched the England games but have not seen any protesting so it’s not ruining it for everyone.

Tonight's Ned v Arg game, there were a lot of close ups of players just strolling around and the commentators said something to the effect of "They're not showing it on the live feed but someone has run onto the pitch in protest, security are removing them"

If you were watching more than just the England games then you might have seen some.

I'm with you. It's almost like these protesters don't understand that as long as I'm not affected by anything remotely interesting like human rights I don't deserve to have my enjoyment of football ruined! It's so annoying. I wish we'd employ more of that spirit here in the UK. Protesting at cost of living is frankly tedious! I just spent the best part of £500 for steak and couldn't give a toss that nurse has to go to a foodbank after a 12 hour shift.

Probably true by the sound of it but clearly it’s not ruining it for everyone and in your face every 5 minutes. The protests are for valid reasons as far as I can tell.

Bingbangbongbash · 09/12/2022 20:56

Yeah, fuck those guys and all the shits they give about human rights. What’s their problem? It’s not like anyone died.

But the thing is, people know that already. We don't need telling by protesters ruining things or people blocking stuff. It's patronising and annoying.

I mean, you're choosing to support all of that by watching so yeah I think you deserve to have your 'entertainment' spoiled.

mynameiscalypso · 09/12/2022 20:59

How does it ruin it? I've watched most of the games in this World Cup and it's not registered massively with me. It's a couple of minutes max which they have to fill for a bit. I'm more concerned about how the protestors will be treated by the security/police.

WeWereInParis · 09/12/2022 21:00

Yes, I think they care more about the human rights than the enjoyment of the spectators. The bastards.

Also, in what way have they ruined it? Isn't it just a minor irritation. It's still going ahead.

Bingbangbongbash · 09/12/2022 21:00

You’re totes right. Like, i actually think the guys in the work camps are the lucky ones because they don’t have to see all this protest shit all over the telly.

Agreed.

You've basically said I know and I don't care, but to the protesters that's not good enough, they want people to care more so they are going to keep protesting and they want to impact people's enjoyment of it because they don't think you should be supporting it.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/12/2022 21:05

The crazy thing is we have to share a society with people who think like you. That's the most terrifying thing.

Keyansier · 09/12/2022 21:05

I just don't think protesters should have ruined the world cup for the audience watching, that's all

Yeah and fuck the environment too while we're at it!

Seriously, wouldn't it be a bit weird if nobody drew attention to the situation?

Stupid comment.

Stupid thread.

tenbob · 09/12/2022 21:07

Because all the most effective protests have been one quick ‘FYI, this is the issue’ and then disappearing to let people enjoy their entertainment 🙄🙄🙄

I hope the protesters carry on and are so disruptive and irritating that it makes it absolutely clear to FIFA that it would pointless to ever award another tournament to such a morally and financially corrupt country

if that means the final is abandoned and cancelled, I would be 100% behind it
