To be utterly sick and tired of football protesters?

Is anybody else sick and tired of people protesting during the World Cup and feel like it's ruining it? I think we are all aware now of where this world cup is and the atrocities that helped build the stadium - but we don't need reminding every 5 minutes IMO. I feel like people can make their own mind up whether to watch or not, and not have people protesting and ruining the games for everyone else.

Sorry but I think it's pathetic people posting online bout protesting the world cup because of human rights when they are posting from a device made by children in third world countries in factories, and stating they won't be watching on their device(s) - also made by children in third world countries in factories. So hypocrital!

you are plainly too hard of thinking to work out that if i sent you a carrier pigeon the poor thing would die of cold. Shouldn't you be watching some penalty shoot out?

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 09/12/2022 21:51

"Yes, but not to the detriment of everyone else watching it who's enjoying it."

Do you understand how protests work?

Brefugee · 09/12/2022 21:52

Was going to post an opinion and then realised who the OP was.

enlighten us?

oh wait, Gianni? is that you?

Keyansier · 09/12/2022 21:53

Clearly nobody is agreement with me so i'll leave it at that.

They're generally not protestors. You always get pitch invaders at football matches - domestic or international.

It paused play for about 40 seconds while the ref was already dealing with a situation.

No big deal.

SavingKitten · 09/12/2022 21:53

OP: AIBU?
Everyone: yes!
OP: no YOU are for even responding from your devises.

Great argument OP 🙄

Brefugee · 09/12/2022 21:53

Yeah but we're still protesting here. It's not going to stop, you know. I bet they have something planned for the final.

Justcallmebebes · 09/12/2022 21:54

I don't think there's been enough protesting

Untitledsquatboulder · 09/12/2022 21:56

Keyansier · 09/12/2022 21:05

I just don't think protesters should have ruined the world cup for the audience watching, that's all

It would be justice if they did ruin it but it looks like plenty of people are having a pretty good time to me.

You just don't like people highlighting that you don't give a shit.

Suedomin · 09/12/2022 21:58

Aren't human rights more important than a football match?
I'm very pleased that people are protesting. I don't see how it is spoiling it for anyone the football seems to be on TV constantly.

Brefugee · 09/12/2022 22:00

I don't know anyone local who is watching it (but then Germany are out so they were bound to lose interest here, yaay). Not that there was much hype or interest here to start with.

Most of my friends in England aren't watching it, and only one or two in the US. Normally we'd all be talking about it, watching matches, sharing predictions, doing sweepstakes etc. So I'm happy that there is less engagement from us.

I know that in other countries, particularly south America, Africa and Asia there is a lot more interest, and maybe that's no bad thing. It investment money is sucked into those areas away from Europe, i can go back to going to matches, having a beer and a sausage at the stadium, pizza afterwards with my mates, talk about the match and it will be like old times. I'd be happy with that, tbh.

Moon22 · 09/12/2022 22:01

I haven't personally seen protesters so can't say it's ruined it for me. In fact, I would have liked and expected to see a few big statements being made, perhaps speaking up for the citizens of Iran- which seems to be getting minimal media coverage for some reason. I know, 'keep politics out of football,' but it's such a huge stage and could have been used to highlight awareness of such things.

Brefugee · 09/12/2022 22:02

I have heard that the people going to the stadiums have enjoyed the atmosphere, the stadiums are well planned and laid out, the food is good (the footy scra account posts some good photos on twitter) and there have been some exciting matches/results?

I do know who is through and who not, but it is hard to avoid the event completely, but i'm not actively looking for info. It's quite relaxing, tbh.

The Iranian players refused to sing the national anthem in the first match. I'm sure they were punished for it in some way.

Yes but we already know what happened, we don't need protests about it IMO as it ruins it for everyone else

If you don't want protests, the WC should have been somewhere else.

I'm on the side of the protestors, human rights are more important than a tournament.

Janieread · 09/12/2022 22:05

The ref ruined that game. The protestor was irrelevant really.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/12/2022 22:05

Keyansier · 09/12/2022 21:26

Surely I don't need to explain why protesters taking over events ruins it for people watching?

Aww aren't you going to mansplain it for us simple women as usual?

Janieread · 09/12/2022 22:06

It's been a brilliant WC so far - annoyingly.

MargotMoon · 09/12/2022 22:09

I do give a flying fuck that the game of football has been hijacked by corrupt functionaries and oligarchs. And I seriously give a fuck that all the usual preconditions to being awarded the matches, in terms of sustainability and fair trade etc, have been ripped into shreds, set on fire and the ashes stamped into the ground.

This 👆

Plus they've really fucked up the normal football season by having it in winter.

Whataretheodds · 09/12/2022 22:09

Seriously, you've just watched that match and your main takeaway was the protestors? They weren't even on screen.

Well technically that could apply to any country

I'm one of the few who isn't bothered by this. For starters i'm in Germany so we'd probably be looking at going to our last match before the winter break this weekend anyway. And also because i have thought for some time that the WC should probably be awarded to somewhere like Australia or maybe parts of Africa (even the middle east - notwithstanding issues around HR and so on) where it might be necessary to play it over what is our winter period.

I'm really just so seriously hacked off at FIFA and UEFA and the individual FAs though that it all pales into insignificance.

FFS, I’ve heard it all now.

The referee dealt with what was in front of him and have cards where appropriate. Petulant behaviour, reckless tackles, ball being booted towards the subs and players scrapping. Didn’t see the ref putting in reckless tackles or pushing players. Crying shame that the Argies won after their behaviour on the pitch.

It has literally ruined Christmas IMO having the world cup on now
