Told I was 'phobic' for not using pronouns!

NewStartIn50s · 08/12/2022 17:48

Asked for my preferred pronouns and I said ' I don't use them', pushed on what I use to refer to myself and I said I don't use on emails or when I introduce myself or at all. Apparently, if I use them I am showing inclusivity to others and being accepting. I'm not quite a dinosaur yet but why are these things forced on us. I don't have a beard (yet) and I think you can tell what I am/but does it really matter if you can't.

So AIBU

YANBU - don't have to use pronouns if you don't want to

YABU - you should state what your preferred pronouns are

Like who? Elaborate.

Muslim women?

Women who have suffered PTSD due to sexual abuse?

Vulnerable women in prison?

Women who believe in facts and science (not the magical Twitter kind, actual real reality science)?

Who are the women you are so intolerant and hateful of that they should be excluded from basic human rights?

You think all Muslim women refuse to use pronouns?

G5000 · 09/12/2022 14:12

that’s just as silly as guessing someone’s gender identity,

What do you mean? You ask every single person what their gender identity is, every time you meet them (in case of gender-fluid people)?
'Yes sure, Johnny can come over for a playdate, but can you specify what the gender identity of that person picking Johnny up is, so I can tell you to ask that person by using correct pronouns".

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2022 14:13

Interesting to see it conceded that these 'lower status' women don't matter at all.

It's always been implicit in the argument that prioritises men's feels over their safety and dignity, but still chilling to see it laid out.

True colours shining through.

Excluding some women, who are tbh the kind of women that should be excluded.

Oh wow, some refreshing honesty from a Righteous person!

Excluding some women, who are tbh the kind of women that should be excluded.

Who do you mean?

The kind of women most impacted by the erosion of same sex spaces/sex differentiation are vulnerable women.

Domestic violence victims, rape victims, prisoners, disabled women needing care, the old and sick, orthodox religious.

So you're saying those women should be thrown under the bus and excluded? I'm surprised to hear that so bluntly expressed to be honest.

Oh the faux confusion, always funny to see on MN

I mean those who refuse to use pronouns, typically tend to be a certain type of person (the same type who uses the term woke… shudder)

why should the intolerant and bigoted be included?

I see the hard of thinking are out in force on this one.

it is just as silly to assume someone’s religion based on what they look like as it is to assume their gender identity, goodness me read the comment chain if it’s that hard to remember

Yes, why should we include an intolerant bigot like you? Why should society include you?

Kucingsparkles · 09/12/2022 14:16

Dear undecided lurkers new to the Righteous ideology of genderism, see how the Righteous positively squirm with delight at the thought of stamping on anybody who doesn't recite the Righteous mantras. And decide for yourselves: is this really Righteous?

You're surprised? I'm not, unfortunately. These people don't even attempt to hide their hatred and disgust of women, particularly women like me who have already been told we need to learn to 'reframe your trauma'. I think I have yet to hear a more offensive phrase.

I'll fight this by whatever means I have available, starting with contributing to the crowd fund for Sarah's case.

Women have had enough.

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2022 14:16

Not faux confusion at all. As you well know.

Pronouns are the start of a pervasive falsehood that impacts these vulnerable women most of all.

Youve just stated they deserve to be excluded from their sex based rights. You've made your appalling point loud and clear. I'd say I'm shocked, but not in the sense that you hold these views. In the sense that you've been honest about it.

PickyTea · 09/12/2022 14:17

oooh edgy.

Thankfully in 20 years time people who are so hate filled they can’t just say they go by ‘she/her or He/him’ won’t make up much of the workforce, or MN!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/12/2022 14:17

It's always useful when people say the quiet bits out loud. "To hell with those female rape survivors and Muslim women who aren't allowed to be in the presence of strange men, my luxury beliefs about sex stereotypes being innate are far more important!"

Can we just go over again why it's 'hate filled' to reference biological fact.

Y'know, for the record.

Oh a slippery slope argument

And who has said anything of the sort, I’ve merely said those who refuse to answer a pretty simple question around pronouns aren’t the type of person who should be included, based on the context of the post I was replying to.

Thankfully it’s not most women who are this difficult, just some, most of which find their way onto MN as no other site tolerates this level of hatred

Gender has nothing to do with biology. Unless you think otherwise?

Good thing no one has said that though,

the poor levels of reading comprehension might explain some posters views a bit more though

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/12/2022 14:20

Gender is a social construct based on regressive sex stereotypes. No more and no less.

GetOffTheRoof · 09/12/2022 14:21

Ignore @PickyTea - the MRA /TRAs have obviously been triggered and led to this thread. Poor wee lambs.

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2022 14:21

Gender has nothing to do with biology. Unless you think otherwise?

Since when did we decide pronouns reference gender and not sex? We've historically used them since birth, so them referencing 'gender' doesn't make any sense at all.

when did this sleight of hand take place?

I thought you were all for empowering women?

But only when they agree with your regressive, outdated views it seems

That’s a shame

Yes I guess for people who have gender identity this might be a challenge. I don't go around identifying as anything and nevertheless nobody has ever addressed me as a 'he'.

What about little Johnny's parent then, have you asked all of them? Should school ask and distribute lists how each parent wants to be addressed at school gates?

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2022 14:23

Oh a slippery slope argument

Not slippery slope at all.

If you believe TWAW then you are pissing all over vulnerable women's sex based rights. You owned that earlier, don't try wriggle out if it now when you accidentally showed your appalling hand,
