To have never heard of these chocolates before?!

I had my lovely friend over for lunch today, we organised it as it'll probably be the last time we see each other now in between the craziness of children and Christmas coming up!

We exchanged some small, token gifts and she had bought me the most beautiful looking box of chocolates! I hadn't actually ever seen them before or heard of the brand.. and am not even sure how exactly to pronounce it Blush

'The Signature collection' truffles by a brand called Booja-Booja. I then had to have a little Google, and I love everything they stand for!

I'm not a vegan / dairy free, but am actively trying to reduce how much meat and animal derived products I'm consuming so I'm absolutely DELIGHTED to find these chocolate truffles are dairy free! They taste incredible 🤩

I text my friend to thank her, and she was absolutely shocked to find out that I had never heard of them before!

During my Google I noticed how pricey they are.. BlushI must admit they aren't something I'd have the spare cash to buy myself on a whim, but they do look as though they'd make lovely gifts!

So (light hearted of course!!)

AIBU to have never heard of them before.. let alone tried them?!

It does very much sound like you are advertising for them.

shinynewapple22 · 07/12/2022 16:20

Oh I love them. Always on my birthday and Christmas present list too.

Millana · 07/12/2022 16:22

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g sooo hard to avoid palm oil. That's a tricky one though because huge communities rely on farming it. I know you can get sustainable palm oil but I'm not really sure how sustainable it actually is. Either way, it's in everything.

My husband actively avoids vegan food. He will sometimes eat vegetarian food reluctantly. Having a big "V" on food packaging is definately off putting for him. Not sure why tbh.

shinynewapple22 · 07/12/2022 16:22

@Millana are you sure that Higgedy have ever marketed themselves as a vegan brand ? I know them for their meat pies and quiches which we have bought for a few years .

Millana · 07/12/2022 16:24

@shinynewapple22 I'm willing to be corrected but I'm pretty sure they were always advertised as veggie. I've definately only seen their meat products recently and I'm sure it was them I read about.

shinynewapple22 · 07/12/2022 16:24

And I believe Wicked Kitchen is Tesco's brand - and they have always marketed themselves as being plant based / vegan . They may have changed now but that was their original concept .

Perhaps this was quite some time ago? Depends on what you mean by recent but they have definitely sold meat pies / quiches I would say 4-5 years ago - which was when I first heard of them .

Movinghouseatlast · 07/12/2022 16:27

I think they are very nice indeed!

Pleiades2020 · 07/12/2022 16:28

They're quite nice. Really loving M&S dark truffles at the moment, I think they do vegan ones too (or used to).

People may not like them because they're dark chocolate and not very sweet as opposed to something like Lindor which are milk and sickly sweet. It's just taste really meaning whether you prefer milk/dark or bitter/sweet or something in the middle.

Millana · 07/12/2022 16:28

@shinynewapple22 just googled re Higgedy and you are right. The sausage rolls were a new product designed to "further diversify" their range so I misunderstood. Don't I feel daft. 🤣Can you tell I shop in specific veggie stores?

I'll find the article re Wicked Kitchen later.

shinynewapple22 · 07/12/2022 16:29

My DH is the same as yours regarding vegan products @Millana . It's so silly - so many things we eat without considering they are vegan!

MilkyYay · 06/12/2022 21:48

Ive not yet found a vegan chocolate i like, too many of them have a coconutty taste that really puts me off.

What about good quality dark chocolate that is accidentally vegan?

whatitisitisnt · 07/12/2022 16:38

The box is officially demolished BlushGrin

I wish I wasn't like this but just the word " vegan" will put me off any food.

Well that is just silly. I will have you know that I make the most delicious vegan carrots. Everyone who has tried them all agree that they are much better than non vegan carrots.

And don’t even get me started on my delicious vegan potatoes. They truly are out of this world.

MariosMagicMushrooms · 07/12/2022 16:42

carefulcalculator · 06/12/2022 22:15

Why?? Loads of great foods are vegan. Oreos for example Smile

Oreos are okay. I would hardly describe them as being great though.

Tesco dark chocolate digestives on the other hand...

😂

Some people are ridiculous about anything marketed as vegetarian or vegan.

Glad you liked them OP, they’re good.

Zib · 07/12/2022 17:07

OMG I was about to start the exact same thread!

Today my friend gave me a brand of chocolate I was unfamiliar with: it's round and it comes in segments, a bit like an orange. It also tastes of orange. I was very impressed. They are marketed by a brand called Terry's.

I actually prefer my roast potatoes done with sunflower oil over the duck/goose fat that people rave about. Vegan friendly and just better generally!

I don’t think I have ever tried roast potatoes with duck fat or goose fat. Not going to either 😂

Booja Booja clearly aren’t putting their sizeable margins to good use paying for proper marketing if this is what they’ve resorted to.

My thoughts exactly

Liz1tummypain · 07/12/2022 18:45

Hmm, vegan carrots you say? Stop showing off and send me the recipe. What ingredients go into that?

That should have been addressed to @MariosMagicMushrooms

I'm extremely common. Large bar of dairy milk and I'm happy. Got a bar of Tony's Chocolonely to try once and I'm sure it's just Kinnertons in fancy packaging.

whatitisitisnt · 07/12/2022 19:04

As lovely as I'm sure it would be, I can confirm I don't work for this company!
I just wanted to share something I've enjoyed.

Sorry Blush
