To have never heard of these chocolates before?!

I had my lovely friend over for lunch today, we organised it as it'll probably be the last time we see each other now in between the craziness of children and Christmas coming up!

We exchanged some small, token gifts and she had bought me the most beautiful looking box of chocolates! I hadn't actually ever seen them before or heard of the brand.. and am not even sure how exactly to pronounce it Blush

'The Signature collection' truffles by a brand called Booja-Booja. I then had to have a little Google, and I love everything they stand for!

I'm not a vegan / dairy free, but am actively trying to reduce how much meat and animal derived products I'm consuming so I'm absolutely DELIGHTED to find these chocolate truffles are dairy free! They taste incredible 🤩

I text my friend to thank her, and she was absolutely shocked to find out that I had never heard of them before!

During my Google I noticed how pricey they are.. BlushI must admit they aren't something I'd have the spare cash to buy myself on a whim, but they do look as though they'd make lovely gifts!

So (light hearted of course!!)

AIBU to have never heard of them before.. let alone tried them?!

What about good quality dark chocolate that is accidentally vegan?

I'd be interested to know this too. Plenty of dark chocolate is accidentally vegan but not marketed as such. These are the ingredients of a bar of Lindt 70% cocoa chocolate:
Ingredients: Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Vanilla

Completely vegan. Do the vegan chocolate haters not like this? Do they hate dark chocolate in general? Or is it vegan chocolate which is trying to be milk chocolate they hate? So with nut milk or soya in to replace the milk?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/12/2022 19:18

Why do things that are intrinsically animal product free get called 'accidentally' vegan? It's not an accident, it's just a bloody carrot, Nigel.

The term accidentally vegan is more used for junk food and convenience food that isn’t marketed towards vegans or specifically made for vegans; it’s just food that happens to contain no animal products.

So a jammie dodger or beef pot noodle would both be accidentally vegan. A carrot on the other hand wouldn’t really be classed as accidentally vegan.

I always find it amusing when people call vegan chocolate fake chocolate or think that it is somehow not real or proper chocolate. Chocolate comes from a cocoa bean which is a plant. So unless people are making dairy free chocolate with fake cocoa beans then vegan chocolate is just as real as milk chocolate.

I will share my recipe for vegan carrots in a bit. I am going to keep you in suspense in the meantime 👀

EvilRingahBitch · 07/12/2022 20:15

I'm a big fan of good vegan food generally, just about to settle down to a big bowl of home made curried sweet potato, lentil and coconut milk soup.

But sadly I cannot be budged in my opinion that vegan potatoes are no match for the real thing, whether roast, chipped or mashed.

shinynewapple22 · 07/12/2022 21:05

Yes, dark chocolate is supposed to be vegan ie it isn't supposed to contain animal products.

Accidental vegan products - one that has always stuck with me is the Bisto gravy granules in the red tub. Far tastier than gravies marketed as vegetarian.

Tigofigo · 07/12/2022 21:22

Vego chocolate bars are pretty good if you like hazelnuts and want something with that sickly sweet milk chocolatey taste.

Booja booja are nice but pricey. BUT they aren't too processed which I like. Good ingredients list.

Monty Bojangles do a half decent vegan truffle too. But the first ingredient is oil.

I tell you what's delicious - Mighty Fine dark honeycomb dips. Like mini crunchie bites but vegan, and in a massive bag.

In terms of dark choc by itself, I quite like supermarket own brand single origin dark chocolate, most of which are vegan.

This post makes me feel dirty.

Ohh I'm going to have to try Vego! I love hazelnuts 🥰

Once when I was really drunk I added a booja booja Easter egg to my Ocado cart as a treat Grin luckily I saw the email when I woke up and deleted it because it was about 30£ Grin

OMG I was about to start the exact same thread!

Today my friend gave me a brand of chocolate I was unfamiliar with: it's round and it comes in segments, a bit like an orange. It also tastes of orange. I was very impressed. They are marketed by a brand called Terry's.

Sarcasm?

You mean the ubiquitous Terrys Chocolate Orange? I think you will be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't heard of it.

I read it as humour, rather than sarcasm.

It made me laugh. Don’t think the responding poster has a sense of humour, poor thing.

knittingaddict · 08/12/2022 13:55

I didn't say it wasn't funny. It's supposed to be the lowest form, but it's my favourite kind of humour.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 06/12/2022 19:25

Dairy free? Fuck that, I want proper milk in my chocolate.

Mmm, cow breastmilk!

knittingaddict · 08/12/2022 13:57

One definition of sarcasm:

Sarcasm is the caustic use of words, often in a humorous way, to mock someone or something.

So humour, but sarcasm. 😀
