To have never heard of these chocolates before?!

I had my lovely friend over for lunch today, we organised it as it'll probably be the last time we see each other now in between the craziness of children and Christmas coming up!

We exchanged some small, token gifts and she had bought me the most beautiful looking box of chocolates! I hadn't actually ever seen them before or heard of the brand.. and am not even sure how exactly to pronounce it Blush

'The Signature collection' truffles by a brand called Booja-Booja. I then had to have a little Google, and I love everything they stand for!

I'm not a vegan / dairy free, but am actively trying to reduce how much meat and animal derived products I'm consuming so I'm absolutely DELIGHTED to find these chocolate truffles are dairy free! They taste incredible 🤩

I text my friend to thank her, and she was absolutely shocked to find out that I had never heard of them before!

During my Google I noticed how pricey they are.. BlushI must admit they aren't something I'd have the spare cash to buy myself on a whim, but they do look as though they'd make lovely gifts!

So (light hearted of course!!)

AIBU to have never heard of them before.. let alone tried them?!

Leonidas are gorgeous chocolates.

Not a fan but their ‘about us’ is hilarious.

“Booja-Booja is the sound of pure enjoyment, the feeling of a fleeting kiss. Maybe whisper it out loud and listen to your voice… and feel your lips …

It is the bodily delight that flows with the first bite, the pleasure of something truly tasty.

It’s pleasurable oneness with all that is arising; partying till sane… and not a moment longer.

It’s noticing we are not in paradise… and loving anyway. It's lying guiltless on sumptuous silk pillows… mere delight.”

Had better from Hotel Chocolat on every high street corner.

knittingaddict · 06/12/2022 21:12

Had them once. OK but not enough to try them again.

The op does should like an advertising campaign.

I remember him (original owner who may still own them) being at a suma trade fair maybe back in 2003-4. The midnight espresso were so good as were the hazelnut crunch. I also know some whose beagle survived a whole box of the espresso truffles!!

I’ve tried them, I thought they were synthetic tasting.

Lindt is better. And cheaper.

Lindt is amazing. Sadly their truffles contain palm oil which takes the shine off slightly. I still let my husband buy some for this Christmas in a weak moment.

There is plenty of covert marketing going on all over Mumsnet, I think.

HowCanIPayItForward · 06/12/2022 21:16

I'm vegan and Booja Booja are my faves

I second that! I can't imagine what dairy-free "milk chocolate" would contain but I don't like the thought of it.

As far as I am aware, Booja Booja are made with dark chocolate not "milk" chocolate, so no need for anything to replace the milk.

Hobbesmanc · 06/12/2022 21:31

Monty bojangles. Just amazing.

CrunchyCarrot · 06/12/2022 21:44

I discovered Booja Booja a couple of years ago when searching for chocolate for certain dietary requirements and have been treating myself to them regularly ever since!

tillyandmilly · 06/12/2022 21:48

I have tried their chocolates - not for me - I like Hotel Chocolat vegan nutmilk chocolate! Delicious and creamy!

MilkyYay · 06/12/2022 21:48

Ive not yet found a vegan chocolate i like, too many of them have a coconutty taste that really puts me off.

SuperSuperCold · 06/12/2022 21:51

The best vegan chocolate in the world is galaxy - the salted caramel one. Deeee-lic-ious

Butteredtoast55 · 06/12/2022 21:54

My vegan friend loves them.

I suppose that means they've decided to expand away from Waitrose now the Ocado partnership ended - it's definitely where I saw them (and though 'fuck me, that's a load of money for some balls of fat and sugar!' - I'm clearly neither a chocolate fan nor am I their target demographic of People With Money To Burn).

They're still sold in Waitrose and other supermarkets, alongside the other average rubbish they sell.

If you like that kind of thing OP maybe try pana chocolate

CPL593H · 06/12/2022 22:03

I'm not vegan and I think they're great, didn't actually realise they were dairy free until the box was finished. All look the same but lovely flavours, prefer them to a lot of other chocolates.

They taste awful.

Booja Booja clearly aren’t putting their sizeable margins to good use paying for proper marketing if this is what they’ve resorted to.

Second thread I've seen today 😋

Liz1tummypain · 06/12/2022 22:13

I wish I wasn't like this but just the word " vegan" will put me off any food.

Why?? Loads of great foods are vegan. Oreos for example Smile

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 06/12/2022 22:42

Don't get why so many people don't like the taste of them. I thought the hazelnut crunch flavour was good.
NB: they're not trying to be like 'milk' chocolate, and have never claimed to.

Haven't had any of their truffles recently, but the ice-cream is pretty good (and based on cashew nuts), they don't use lots of weird artificial ingredients or palm oil (as found in many other vegan ice creams from major producers).

I hadn't realised that they'd started being sold in Waitrose - as I don't shop there - but for many years they deliberately avoided supermarkets and focussed on being sold via independent wholefoods shops. I'm actually feeling a bit disappointed to hear that they've changed who they're supplying to.
