To book a hotel just so I can have a shower?

In the middle of bathroom renovations. Now been ten days without a bathroom. We have a toilet we can flush with a bucket đŸ¤¢but that’s all.

Ive been strip washing in the kitchen every day so I know theoretically I am not dirty but I feel disgusting. I’ve managed to wash my hair once in the sink, not that successfully and that feels minging too.

A cheap hotel for a night (eg two days of showering!) would be at least £50 and really can’t afford it (bathroom gone way over budget), but we have at least another week of this and I’m not sure I can bear it!!

Trial gym membership?

Lilgamesh2 · 04/12/2022 22:38

I wonder if you can get a day pass at a gym or swimming pool that may be cheaper?

Purplelion · 04/12/2022 22:38

Can you go to a family member or friends house for a shower? I would definitely let a friend in your situation use my shower!

Womencanlift · 04/12/2022 22:38

YANBU but can’t you go to a local gym or leisure centre and use the showers there? Would be a lot cheaper to pay for a swim session than a hotel

TyneTeas · 04/12/2022 22:38

Is there not a local authority swimming pool near you OP or a gym you can have a trial at?

SpinningFloppa · 04/12/2022 22:39

Don’t you have any family or friends who would let you use theirs đŸ˜•

24petlegs · 04/12/2022 22:39

Head to your local pool for a swim and shower…will be about £5 so you can go daily for the cost of the hotel.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/12/2022 22:39

Is there a local gym doing try a session for free that you could subscribe to and then use their showers?

any friends who are gym members might know of any incentives

brightblueskies80 · 04/12/2022 22:39

We got through a week with no hot water by showering at different friends' houses and going swimming and showering there.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/12/2022 22:40

In fact if you say where you are I bet one of us would happily let you borrow our shower!

Ask family/friends/neighbours.

family & friends have stayed & neighbours used my bathroom. I showered at work when mine was being done.

what's your bathroom fitter doing though? 10 days is a long time without a functioning bathroom if the end isn't in sight

if you don't have anyone you can ask, how about a swimming baths/gym etc??.

PriamFarrl · 04/12/2022 22:41

Ask a friend. I’d let you use mine. When we had our bathroom done we sorted it to coincide with friends going on holiday. We went to theirs every morning, fed the cats and had a shower.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 04/12/2022 22:41

I lived for a year and a half with no hot water in my home and didn’t live in a house that had a bathroom with a shower until I was 27.

Im sure you are clean. But go to a friends or to the leisure centre to use the showers.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 04/12/2022 22:41

Looks like The Gym has 50% off membership at the moment. You can join for one month and suspend/cancel at any time.

GingerScallop · 04/12/2022 22:41

Friends'? or Local gym

lochmaree · 04/12/2022 22:42

you can usually shower at a pool or gym if you just ask to pay for a shower.

honeyandbutterontoast · 04/12/2022 22:43

Moved to a new area recently so nobody here to ask. Family live a couple of hours away. Local pool a bit grotty to be frank. Gym membership I had considered but they want me to do a trial session first and no spaces for that at moment đŸ˜‚

Stupidly I didn’t realise it would take this long. I’ve done bathrooms before and it’s been a couple of days tops!

I did it when we were having a new bathroom fitted two years ago in December. It was glorious, a hot shower before bed and a hot shower when we got up!

ReallyTiredAndHungry · 04/12/2022 22:45

its a sad state of affairs if you can’t afford £50 to have a bloody shower.

Bamaluz · 04/12/2022 22:46

I did this, look for a premier inn zip, small rooms but good showers, very cheap.

mrsfollowill · 04/12/2022 22:47

I would book the hotel in a heartbeat! I've considered this myself- our boiler was condemned in 2017 and it took 7 days to get a new one installed so zero hot water apart from boiled in a kettle and the house was freezing at the time. Lucky for us my mum lives round the corner so we trooped down to hers every night for a shower. It was the 'Shower Hour' and 3 of us jumped in and out.
If she wasn't just near then I would absolutely book a Travelodge/Premier Inn just to use the bathroom. In all honesty how much have you spent on the renovations? We had a bathroom totally redone (down to bare brick) and it was 6 days. £50 is peanuts given the overall cost and you will feel amazing!

PonyPatter44 · 04/12/2022 22:47

If you're in/ near Milton Keynes, you can pop round to ours for a shower. Otherwise I would just bite the bullet and pay out for the cheapest possible hotel or b&b.

OnTheBoardwalk · 04/12/2022 22:48

I would during a heatwave to use the air con. Not so sure at the moment

I wouldnt spend £50 just to have a shower. That's not a sad stare of affairs at all.

She has hot water. Really.not hard to get clean using a sink. No need to spend £50 just to get to shower. That's almost a week's worth of food shopping for my house.

TheChosenTwo · 04/12/2022 22:50

Oh god knock on your neighbours door and ask nicely! I’d let you and I’m sure so many others would.
local Pool might be a bit grim but you literally just need the shower to have a proper wash so I’d stick on a pair of flip flops and go and give your hair a good lather and your pits and bits a good scrub! You’ll feel miles better :)
