To book a hotel just so I can have a shower?

In the middle of bathroom renovations. Now been ten days without a bathroom. We have a toilet we can flush with a bucket 🤢but that’s all.

Ive been strip washing in the kitchen every day so I know theoretically I am not dirty but I feel disgusting. I’ve managed to wash my hair once in the sink, not that successfully and that feels minging too.

A cheap hotel for a night (eg two days of showering!) would be at least £50 and really can’t afford it (bathroom gone way over budget), but we have at least another week of this and I’m not sure I can bear it!!

Just go to the pool and use the showers.

It might be a bit grotty but surely it's better than strip washes over the kitchen sink for two weeks?!

Agree!

Just pop to your local motorway services and jump in the shower for free!

Foxylass · 04/12/2022 23:15

Are you near a motorway? Some service stations have showers.

honeyandbutterontoast · 04/12/2022 23:15

I don’t want to stay in the hotel! But what I want is a decent very hot very long shower. To literally scrub and shave everything, properly wash and condition my hair. Which is not going to be possible at the pool showers. And the gym (separate and v nice) I can’t join yet.

Not helped by the fact I’m decorating at the moment so keep finding random flecks of paint on my skin and hair 😂

When our bathroom was being renovated, I went to the local swimming pool did a few lengths and had a lovely shower afterward. Even if you dont like swimming, just pay for the swim and just go for a shower, much cheaper than a hotel!

Notjustabrunette · 04/12/2022 23:16

I use a gym at a local hotel, have a look round at the hotels near you, you might be able to get a day pass for around £10. You can use all the other facilities while you’re there too.

declutteringmymind · 04/12/2022 23:17

Are there any cheap spa deals on groupon?

WalkingOnSonshine · 04/12/2022 23:18

If you’re in the South West, come and shower at mine.

Mybumlooksbig · 04/12/2022 23:19

Book the hotel and enjoy the shower

kateandme · 04/12/2022 23:19

Is there Anyway you can book an all inclusive so you can at least offset some of the food costs.or if your using there services your offsetting electric bills for a night at least.tv,heat etc.
If you book deff stay though! Big comfy bed and use of a bathroom for the night!

44PumpLane · 04/12/2022 23:20

Surely even if the local swimming pool is a bit grotty it's an improvement on not having had a shower for 10 days and feeling like a bit of a grot bag.

I get you want a lovely long hot shower but if you can't afford £50 on a hotel isn't it a case of "beggars can't be choosers"?

In your position I'd definitely take the slightly sub par local baths over paying £50!

Evenstar · 04/12/2022 23:21

One of our local leisure centres advertised that you could have a free shower to help with the cost of living, might be worth checking if any are offering that near you.

honeyandbutterontoast · 04/12/2022 23:21

I can’t stay there, would just be to use the shower. Oh and the toilet, that would be nice to not have to wonder if it would take one or two buckets to flush it 😏

im trying to keep my sense of humour over all of this but it’s just all taking so long!!

Bloody hell- where do you live that there are no localish hotels with day spa facilities if no local council gym is acceptable? No need to book a room anywhere unless you are very rural

cathcath2 · 04/12/2022 23:23

YANBU if you can afford it.

malmi · 04/12/2022 23:25

I still don't get why you can't use the pool shower unless they only have poolside mixed showers where you can't get naked (but there is usually a proper shower somewhere else). You're allowed to use conditioner etc. Shaving ok if you rinse the shower properly.

You could also check out gym day passes on the Hussle app though I fear that whatever stops you using the pool shower would also render a gym shower equally unusable. It's the same rules really.

😂

Are you serious? You can't believe that someone doesn't have a local hotel spa?

ouch321 · 04/12/2022 23:25

Just book a cheapo hotel and make a nice time of it.

That's what I did when I had a similar issue - no loo- and just stayed there for a week.

cathcath2 · 04/12/2022 23:26

YANBU if you can afford it. I did it when I had no heating or hot water on my birthday one year and it still wasn't fixed 3 days later. Best shower ever!

LaughingCat · 04/12/2022 23:27

Done this! You could try a gym shower (which is likewise freezing cold and icky unless you go at 6am) or a hotel. There’s only so much you can take. Look at what you can cut out, maybe, to help afford it - I didn’t buy any treat type foods for a few weeks when I was going through something similar! Also…have you tried dayrooms.com or something similar. You can book a cheaper rate just for a few hours. You have to deal with a few knowing glances from staff assuming you’re having an affair but hey, the plentiful hot water and feeling of being clean is WAY worth it!

honeyandbutterontoast · 04/12/2022 22:43

Moved to a new area recently so nobody here to ask. Family live a couple of hours away. Local pool a bit grotty to be frank. Gym membership I had considered but they want me to do a trial session first and no spaces for that at moment 😂

Stupidly I didn’t realise it would take this long. I’ve done bathrooms before and it’s been a couple of days tops!

It doesn't matter if the local pool is grotty, just use the shower and go home. You don't have to swim!

Timezoned · 04/12/2022 23:27

Im SE coast area if you are close you are welcome to shower at our house

alternatively what about motorway services, I believe some have shower facilities, it’s probity easy to lookup on google where they are available

or a sport centre

honeyandbutterontoast · 04/12/2022 23:29

No I don’t have a problem with using facilities at a gym etc, used to belong to one with nice showers. But I guess maybe I do have a problem with grubby showers that don’t feel very private. I have issues with not feeling safe when I’m naked I think. Just a weird quirk of mine.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/12/2022 23:32

Monolith services definitely have showers if you’re anywhere near there. I noticed them on the way home from a Mighty Hike and wishes I’d been more organised as I was absolutely stinking!
