Annoyed when girl hands over her pig in blanket to the boy in the Waitrose Christmas advert

Am I the only one to be incensed by the message shown in the Waitrose ad - don't worry boys, if you cry when you don't get what you want, a girl will give you hers? She's lost her pig in blanket but you've got yours, so all is well and the natural order of the world is restored.

Yes, I know it's just a Christmas ad but it's another example of women being socialised to be kind from a young age, ignore our own needs and put those of men first. Any one else agree?

I think you are thinking way too much in to it 😂.

OoooohMatron · 24/11/2022 14:55

Do you always look for offence? I see it as an older sibling being kind to her little brother, nothing more.

👆🏻 This!

Januarcelebration · 24/11/2022 14:56

So you would have been fine if the boy gave his to the girl?

GoingtotheWinchester · 24/11/2022 14:57

I didn’t like the giving into a tantrum message - but I think the patriarchy message you read into it is a bit of a leap 😳. Girls are just as prone to tantrums as boys 😄.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/11/2022 14:58

🤔

User478 · 24/11/2022 15:00

Bet that fictional little brat does that whenever he doesn't get whatever he wants, she's learnt to just give in to him, it's easier.

Also, who planned this meal? There should be enough pigs in Blankets for at least 2 each. Maybe if they'd gone to Aldi they could have afforded enough pigs in blankets for everyone.

(Unless there's a deleted scene where Uncle Martin fills his plate with a monstrous mountain of pig flesh.)

Velvetbee · 24/11/2022 15:01

Yep, pisses me off too.

All of this! Grin

I agree with you, OP.

And as you'll see from my username, this is an issue close to my stomach heart.

mynameiscalypso · 24/11/2022 15:03

I agree too. That advert really annoys me.

Sparklesocks · 24/11/2022 15:04

I think it’s more about kids being nice to each other at Christmas, putting another before yourself because you love them - rather than a comment on gender specifically. If the roles were reversed would you be annoyed that the girl crying to get the pig in blanket from the boy makes women and girls look overly emotional?

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/11/2022 15:04

And WTF are they snacking on later if there's only one each? Talk about under-catering.

luxxlisbon · 24/11/2022 15:04

Fucking hell, do you manage to get through the day okay??

OrlandointheWilderness · 24/11/2022 15:06

Oh for gods sake! I swear some people are desperate to be offended. My brother would've done the same for me. as I would him! Because we are siblings and love each other!

Have boys been condition for years on end to Be Kind and put others needs before themselves? No, they haven’t, so why on earth would she feel the same if it was the other way around?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/11/2022 15:07

She's just being a nice big sister, he's only little. And my kids would totally give each other the last pig in a blanket. But thankfully it's never been an issue because I cook enough for three days' worth.

CableTidy · 24/11/2022 15:07

I was more mad that they hadn't cooked enough, there should be enough to snack on hours later Wink

Rockingcloggs · 24/11/2022 15:09

Christ alive is this what we've come to.

Mommabear20 · 24/11/2022 15:09

And if it had been the reverse, you'd be complaining that girls don't need a man to save the day 🤷‍♀️

ItsAWoozyItsAWazzy · 24/11/2022 15:11

I get really annoyed with the advert where that little boy hands over his chocolate to that crying woman on the bus.

I watched it and thought that it showed women as feeble, emotional beings that can only be comforted by food.

I joke.

Get a grip OP.

I can't be the only person who would ostentatiously eat the last piggie in front of their sibling in these circumstances?

edwinbear · 24/11/2022 15:11

For all you know, she's already had about 8 and can't manage to cram one more in.

Who planned the meal ? Same person who planned every other meal of the year, the mum, so maybe get off her back, she's just trying to do her best whilst i bet her "D"H is off messaging some girl from work.

😉

MrsMontyD · 24/11/2022 15:14

It didn't annoy me enough to start a thread but it annoyed me.

He's old enough to understand there's none left, he cries, everyone giggles awww bless him and then a girl steps in to put her own desire for a pig in a blanket second to his and he smiles, he's won.
