Annoyed when girl hands over her pig in blanket to the boy in the Waitrose Christmas advert

Am I the only one to be incensed by the message shown in the Waitrose ad - don't worry boys, if you cry when you don't get what you want, a girl will give you hers? She's lost her pig in blanket but you've got yours, so all is well and the natural order of the world is restored.

Yes, I know it's just a Christmas ad but it's another example of women being socialised to be kind from a young age, ignore our own needs and put those of men first. Any one else agree?

I see it as everyone else were greedy fuckers and didn't leave him any....still it makes the adults around the table laugh as the child is crying. Fair play to the girl...she's the only mature one amongst them.

couldyoubeeit · 24/11/2022 16:50

To be honest I sat there and wondered why one of the grown ups didn't volunteer their pig in blanket to him. They kind of just sit there smirking ...

InFiveMins · 24/11/2022 16:52

I agree OP. Sending the message that the boy's needs and feelings are more important than the girl's 🙄

Choconut · 24/11/2022 16:52

I mean really, who doesn't make sure there are enough for everyone? They literally had mounds of food so obviously not poor. And who wouldn't give to the kids first and then adults after? And why didn't one of the adults offer? And why is the girl so happy to hand over hers to her bratty brother, that is not normal behaviour IMO unless you've been really conditioned into that role.

My younger brother was like that and my mum always gave in to him (sometimes at my expense) to keep him quiet. I wouldn't certainly not have been smilingly handing over my pig in blanket though.

mam0918 · 24/11/2022 16:53

The girl wasnt asked or forced too she happily offered fgs and its a bloody toddler whose upset that he waited patiently for everyone else and was the only one that didnt get one which is far from being a brat.

Sorry but..... yawn! Why is everyone always looking to be offended by every.little.thing?

Shitfather · 24/11/2022 16:57

Saw the ad for the first time in the cinema this afternoon. Fucking hated it, but I do think you are overthinking it.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/11/2022 17:02

I don’t really care who gives the pig, but the wailing kid annoys me.

magma32 · 24/11/2022 17:03

Completely agree OP, yet again women/girls need to
sacrifice/compromise for the men/boys in the family. Certainly these ideas are rife in my community so it’s right we call this shit out. Reminds me of the awful JL insurance advert where the boy was getting away with trashing the whole house with mum and sister just sat there taking it. Might not be a big deal to many but this is just another form of conditioning and it’s right to call this shit out. Why can’t we see ‘doting’ self sacrificing big brothers?

MrsT84 · 24/11/2022 17:11

It annoys me more that there are all those adults there and not one offers up the one they have taken.

Avaynia · 24/11/2022 17:14

🙄

LikeAStar1994 · 24/11/2022 17:14

I swear to God people are just looking to be offended.

Also, I don't care if this offends anybody but it's nearly always women Hmm

aSofaNearYou · 24/11/2022 17:17

I think you've got a point actually, I notice lots of these small things in adverts with girls and boys in it together, I do always roll my eyes.

barneshome · 24/11/2022 17:17

Rockingcloggs · 24/11/2022 15:09

Christ alive is this what we've come to.

Heavens above - Yes let us all; look for something to be offended about!
Mind boggling

CableTidy · 24/11/2022 15:07

I was more mad that they hadn't cooked enough, there should be enough to snack on hours later Wink

@CableTidy 🤣

NoNameNowAgain · 24/11/2022 17:20

If it had been a rollo, it might annoy me. I haven’t actually seen it but I have a lot of time on my hands too.

BoJoSecretGF · 24/11/2022 17:20

Had any PP mentioned that brat in the holiday advert when the little girl drops her ice cream and then her brother pretends to give her his but then licks it in a “ooh I’ve got an ice cream you haven’t, loser” way?

Borntobeamum · 24/11/2022 17:21

Hypothetically - it’s Christmas Day! Do you want the little lad spoiling the meal you e lovingly prepared over a pig in blanket?!

PolkaDotMankini · 24/11/2022 17:22

I'd be crying too if there wasn't a pig in blanket left for me. Like heck would I give my only piggy to my brother either 😂

As someone else said: who the heck planned the catering?! There has to be some massive back story. ILs bringing uninvited randoms? Greedy git uncle being pandered to "because that's what he's like". Shortage of pig slaughterers again?

MarigoldPetals · 24/11/2022 17:23

You are annoyed when people are nice to each other?
Think about others needs. Be kind. Make the world a better place.

thehorsehasnowbolted · 24/11/2022 17:28

Didn't this retailer get in trouble last year for one of their ads as well (on a loosely similar issue)?

Perhaps they need to change marketing agencies

PiggyInTheLidl · 24/11/2022 17:35

But in a Cadbury’s ad a young boy gives his chocolate to a teenage girl.

WordtoYoMumma · 24/11/2022 17:37

Thanks for this thread I had forgotten the pigs in blankets on my Asda shop. Just added two packs.

PiggyInTheLidl · 24/11/2022 17:39

Might this ad promote eating disorders? “Give away your sausage, they make you fat” is surely the subliminal message!

Or not.

Rocksludge · 24/11/2022 17:39

User478 · 24/11/2022 15:00

Bet that fictional little brat does that whenever he doesn't get whatever he wants, she's learnt to just give in to him, it's easier.

Also, who planned this meal? There should be enough pigs in Blankets for at least 2 each. Maybe if they'd gone to Aldi they could have afforded enough pigs in blankets for everyone.

(Unless there's a deleted scene where Uncle Martin fills his plate with a monstrous mountain of pig flesh.)

I think this is the key point: who on earth planned a dinner where there’s a single pig in a blanket per person?
