Annoyed when girl hands over her pig in blanket to the boy in the Waitrose Christmas advert

Am I the only one to be incensed by the message shown in the Waitrose ad - don't worry boys, if you cry when you don't get what you want, a girl will give you hers? She's lost her pig in blanket but you've got yours, so all is well and the natural order of the world is restored.

Yes, I know it's just a Christmas ad but it's another example of women being socialised to be kind from a young age, ignore our own needs and put those of men first. Any one else agree?

I know it’s supposed to be sweet. It was. in a way. But I felt the same. It’s never the other way around.

#bekind 🙄

Imagine being triggered by an advert portraying selflessness and kindness.

Bet that fictional little brat does that whenever he doesn't get whatever he wants, she's learnt to just give in to him, it's easier.

Also, who planned this meal? There should be enough pigs in Blankets for at least 2 each. Maybe if they'd gone to Aldi they could have afforded enough pigs in blankets for everyone.

(Unless there's a deleted scene where Uncle Martin fills his plate with a monstrous mountain of pig flesh.)

Reckon you're right about the deleted scene bit my guess it was uncle Peter - the one on the mum's (Aisling's) side of the family not the dad's (Chris') brother. He of the hairy hands, who's always first up at buffet piling his plate high, took nine pig's in blankets before anyone else go a look in. Jenny (Uncle "hairy hands' Peter's wife - Aisling's sister - just giggle and said."oooh doesn't he have a fine appetite", so Chris gave his daughter the last two (because she was next to him) in case Uncle Hairy Hands went for seconds, and she ate one and saved one for her brother.

She then (and this scene made it) handed her brother it. He was very upset and he knows the form of his greedy Uncle and had thought they were all gone.

No, I don’t agree. that’s nonsense.

What I don’t understand is why they run out of pigs in blankets so quickly.

Boy with the eyebrows in the kipling advert gives his grumpy sister a slice of cake.

I can't be the only person who would ostentatiously eat the last piggie in front of their sibling in these circumstances?

Haha. This reminds me of the holiday advert when the sister drops her ice cream and the boy makes a show of licking his in front of her! Definitely more realistic, ideally whilst exclaiming that it's the most delicious pig in a blanket you've ever had 😂

cosmiccosmos · 24/11/2022 22:29

@AnImaginaryCat - yes but he has had his fill at the party, it isn't the 'last' one and she isn't upset about a cake or not getting it

1dontunderstand · 24/11/2022 22:31

Completely agree with you

Yep. And savour every bite 😆

I think it’s more about kids being nice to each other at Christmas, putting another before yourself because you love them - rather than a comment on gender specifically. If the roles were reversed would you be annoyed that the girl crying to get the pig in blanket from the boy makes women and girls look overly emotional?

So why couldn't we have had a boy giving up his pig in a blanket - answer because girls have to "be kind" and boys have to get what they want. Talk about reinforcement of stereotypes. It really pisses me off that we still have this in 2022...

You're probably the kind of person who would allow male rapists into female spaces if they want to be in the name of "being kind"

MamaFirst · 24/11/2022 23:04

Omg seriously. I thought it was adorable. He's about 3, you seriously think a 3 year old is capable of gender relate manipulation 🙄

dolor · 24/11/2022 23:05
