Is it weird to go to bed at 8.30pm?

DP is working, and DD's are sleeping, DS won't go to sleep until 10 but is in his room watching tv and playing quietly, so I've come up to bed. I love snuggling under the duvet and reading or watching tv it literally makes me feel so happy and content but my friend thinks its weird that i would go to bed at 8.30pm. I will need to go and put DS to sleep (he has asd and wont go to sleep earlier) and let the dog out for a wee at 10pm but until then im more than happy in bed watching tv and scrolling MN.

If DP was home id stay downstairs but since he isnt i dont see why i shouldn't be warm and cosy in bed doing the same thing id be doing on the sofa, and if anyone is worried about Ddog he is currently snoring in his bed beside me and will be unimpressed when i wake him and send him outside.

So
AIBU its really strange for an adult to go to bed that early

Yanbu theres nothing wrong with going to bed whenever you want

Nope! If everything is done and tidy and my fiancé is at work I’m in bed by half 8 too! Sometimes even when he is here I am if I’m tired.

AHelpfulHand · 20/11/2022 21:05

I go upstairs and lock up downstairs at around 7.30.

I then start my shower, hair styling etc routine. In bed most times for 9.30 just resting and mumsnetting

bananaboats · 20/11/2022 21:06

No I'm the same when DH is on nightshift I'm rarely in the livingroom!

ScroogeMcDuckling · 20/11/2022 21:08

i think your friend is the weird one, who wouldn’t be at peace in a comfortable bed.

it’s wonderful lazing in bed 🤣

SpringIntoChaos · 20/11/2022 21:10

You're not 'going to sleep' though are you...you're simply getting yourself more comfortable to read or watch TV 🤷‍♀️ Change how you phrase it...'going to bed' gives the impression that you're going to sleep. Just say that you are 'going upstairs to watch TV' or whatever 👍 I've been here since 7.45...I was cold and uncomfortable downstairs. I'm now warm and cosy upstairs...watching TV 🤣

bloodywhitecat · 20/11/2022 21:10

I am in bed, I am trying to stay awake to give the little one their last dose of meds for the day. It's been a shitty weekend and I felt the need to just lay and relax so here I am.

TwoMonthsOff · 20/11/2022 21:11

not at all, going to bed is bliss

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 20/11/2022 21:11

Seems im not weird then 🤣 my friend messaged me and asked me a question that meant I'd need to look at something downstairs and i said id look tomorrow because i was in bed, she asked if i was ill and just couldnt seem to get that i just wanted to be in bed.

TwoMonthsOff · 20/11/2022 21:13

I hope your little one feels better soon.

It's been pitch black here since 4:30!!!!! I've not looked at the time for a while now, and can't believe it's only turning 9:15, 8:30 is a total reasonable time this time of year!!! Love being snug as a bug 🐛

VolvicRevive · 20/11/2022 21:15

I'm exactly the same as you OP! I love an early night with a hook or scrolling MN with a cup of tea.

There is no set way to live your life so as long as it makes you happy and relaxed carry on doing your own thing ✨️

Johnnypiratesfriend · 20/11/2022 21:16

Chilling in bed is amazing. I brought a tassimo for by the just to save going downstairs for a cuppa. Sometimes I even get back into bed after the school run if everything is squared up and sorted.

DeliberatelyObtuse · 20/11/2022 21:16

I'm going to bed now

I was hoping to go at 8 but had stuff to do

You can't beat an early Sunday night

Beees · 20/11/2022 21:16

Me and DH do this most nights. We both bloody love our bed and paid a lot of money for the mattress, we could cosy up downstairs stretched out on the sofas but the bed is my happy place so I'd much rather be up there relaxing.

Maybe your friend thought you'd actually gone to bed to sleep which would be quite unusual at that time of day but truthfully if she doesn't chill out in bed then she's the one missing out. Grin

Floralnomad · 20/11/2022 21:17

I can’t see the point if you have to get back up for the dog , I’d just do the dog at 9:30 and turn in then .

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 20/11/2022 21:17

I wouldn't class that as going to bed.
Going to bed = sleep to my mind. So if I was your friend, I'd be a bit confused.

You are warm and comfy. Enjoy.

mydogisthebest · 20/11/2022 21:18

I find it weird. Unless I am ill I never go to bed before 11pm. Often I don't go until midnight.

I don't want to be in bed watching tv or reading. I like sitting on the sofa. Don't even have a tv in the bedroom. Hate in when you have to sit in or on the bed in a hotel to watch tv.

If I never had to sleep I would be happy. Sleeping is such a waste of time.

SlashBeef · 20/11/2022 21:19

Unless we've got extracurricular clubs or whatever and I haven't had time to do the evening jobs I go to bed at like 7.30! I don't go to sleep but I love watching a show or just chilling in my bed.

We recently paid a fortune for a new mattress. It is lovely and comfortable and I sleep pretty well on it (bad sleeper) but I still don't want to be in bed watching tv or reading or whatever.

I don't think the friend is missing out at all

Shouldershoddy · 20/11/2022 21:22

Any time after 8pm is perfectly normal for me ! Am planning on going back to bed tomorrow morning after I drop son at local train station at 7 am .

We are all different though.

I’ve being a pit monster since 7.30 tonight, the dog is snoozing/snoring in his bed, DH is playing on the tablet, it’s wonderful, bedtime wee wees for the dog at ten.

I’ve even bought a litre flask of tea up here, try it, it’s wonderful

Violashift · 20/11/2022 21:23
