Excuse the daily mail link but I am absolutely raging at this

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11432097/Woman-wearing-suffragette-scarf-kicked-Scottish-parliament-gender-debate.html

ps MNHQ - tucking away discussion into its own wee sub forum doesn’t make you any better

@JusteanBiscuits

The Suffrage movement came about because women had spent too long being told that we couldn't handle property ownership/looking after money/voting because our lady brains couldn't handle it.

Suffragettes argued that our biology may be different but our brains were no different and were capable of everything men could do.

Women are now being told that we are nothing more than a feeling and that the concept of male and female feelings (and thus an agreement that they are measurably different) is valid and should dictate laws and policy.

If you cannot see how regressive this is then I worry.

also, this woman wasn't removed due to her scarf like many are ,suggesting here. She was removed for her comments and behaviour. I don't agree with it, but please don't suggest it's because of the scarf she was wearing. A scarf in a tartan that was designed in 2018 and so actually is just the colours of the suffrage movement to make some money - like the whole breast cancer pink thing.

What's your source on that, it seems to contradict the statement put out by the Scottish parliament as well as every major newspaper/outlet in the UK?

I will be attending a dinner tomorrow in Gladgow at which Sturgeon is the keynote speaker. Will be wearing suffragette colours

I'd so love Sturgeon to be met with a sea of green, white and violet.

That would be beautiful

Madcats · 16/11/2022 12:49

There is something about the use of "literally" and "actually" to split infinitives...... It tends to occur in statements I disagree with. Odd that.

I fear that a suffragette umbrella is a bit tricky (umbrellas seem to come with 8 panels so 3 colours won't work). The Wimbledon ones with a different logo would be a good compromise @BeyondThinkOfTheOptics.

The suffragette history is interesting. There was a fairly major falling out between the suffragists and the suffragettes.

Anyway the petition to "Update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic “sex” is biological sex" is worth reading and signing, wherever you are based. The map showing the distribution of voters is very telling.

That Scottish tartan link shows it's out of stock now!

RubiesandRose · 16/11/2022 13:22

Just ordered mine and will wear it with pride!

In making such a statement, you'll obviously have evidence to back this up then? Please post it.

Or we'll assume the usual TRA trick of just stating nonsense as truth.

Goes Google not work where you live?

Ah but she needs to go on MN to scream about those evil trans rights, dontcha know?

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 16/11/2022 09:38

Seems a good place to ask - anyone know where you can get the suffragette brollies? (and yes, I have tried Googling it already)

Melroses · 16/11/2022 15:05

It's a very nice scarf. Tartan really does the colours justice.

Feministwoman · 16/11/2022 15:05

Chersfrozenface · 16/11/2022 10:45

I bought the Ministry of Tartan scarf last year.

Can't find an umbrella in suffragette colours though. Gap in the marker.

Just back-ordered one of the AHF scarves for my daughter for Christmas. They do a men’s range of items too :-)

Chersfrozenface · 16/11/2022 15:09

Says "Coming soon". Will bookmark in order to keep checking.

It's almost as if some posters object to women hearing about these things.

Wonder why that might be?

Poopoolittlerabbit · 16/11/2022 15:17

‘also, this woman wasn't removed due to her scarf like many are ,suggesting here. She was removed for her comments and behaviour.’

is that true? Because that definitely not what’s been reported.

There's a thread with a link here if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

😱

There is a shawl - probably more of a nice Christmas present price though.

Useful in the January cold.

TruckerBarbie · 16/11/2022 15:25

Rainbow lanyards etc aren't really the same as suffragette scarf though tbh.

The suffragettes planted bombs in theatres/churches etc and blinded/horribly maimed innocent postal workers with their letter bombs which would blow up in said postal workers faces.

They're not too far removed from archetypal terrorists who blow stuff up.

Nobody is screaming. Why have you characterised women campaigning for women’s rights as anything to do with trans rights unless you are expressly acknowledging that women’s rights are being undermined by those who focus on gender not sex. Thanks for confirming.

Scream is an interesting choice of words. How often are biological males said to scream.

You see this often. Everyone forgets that religion has been responsible for multiple wars, murder, terror, torture and abuse of billions over the course of history. Nobody brings this up when people wear crosses or other religious symbols.
