Excuse the daily mail link but I am absolutely raging at this

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11432097/Woman-wearing-suffragette-scarf-kicked-Scottish-parliament-gender-debate.html

ps MNHQ - tucking away discussion into its own wee sub forum doesn’t make you any better

Why do those wanting to minimise the rights erosion always bring it back to toilets?

Rather than ...

Safe spaces for rape victims and domestic violence survivors.

Female only prison provision.

Personal care for the ill and disabled.

Accommodation for the orthodox religious.

Do these women not matter or something? Clearly not when you could be jumping up and down for cool points from the woke bros.

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 11:56

I am going to wear my scarf with pride and I shall experiment and post on here my experiences. I have some higher profile places to attend, and it will be interesting to see if anyone notices.

Venetiaparties · 16/11/2022 11:59

Scotland surely must stop this lunacy.

The only blessing is that we are all watching on aghast, it might make it less likely in the rest of the UK. Many European neighbours are now rowing back on the treatment of children and trans rights, since the study costing 7 million dollars was funded to explore the medical consequences of puberty blockers in children in the US, that was in 2015 and still no sign of the results.....
Why?
Because no discussion can even be had about the medical outcomes of the children involved in the trial. You know things have gone badly wrong when doctors and consultants are blocked from recording their findings and publishing them in full.

@rbe78
If you think it's a tiny handful of people, then you're wrong, and might want to open your eyes and ears to the ever growing numbers of men impacting on womens rights in bathrooms, sports, prisons, rape centres, hospitals, schools...

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 16/11/2022 12:12

Off to buy a scarf! I needed a new one so will be ordering it today 😃

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 16/11/2022 12:13

The gender critical movement seem more concerned with what bathroom a tiny handful of people they deem to have the wrong gentials use. I don't believe they are fighting for my (a woman's) rights in any meaningful way, and I am disgusted that they are besmirching the symbol of women's liberation.

If thats what you think, you arent paying attention to what's been going on.

JusteanBiscuits · 16/11/2022 12:18

I used to have this scarf. I now have a different suffragette one. I also collect vintage / antique suffragette jewelry.

I am very supportive of inclusive trans rights. I will be utterly disgusted if the trans exclusionary movement hijacks this.

As are others. However, trans rights are not womens rights.

JusteanBiscuits · 16/11/2022 12:20

also, this woman wasn't removed due to her scarf like many are ,suggesting here. She was removed for her comments and behaviour. I don't agree with it, but please don't suggest it's because of the scarf she was wearing. A scarf in a tartan that was designed in 2018 and so actually is just the colours of the suffrage movement to make some money - like the whole breast cancer pink thing.

TheKeatingFive · 16/11/2022 12:21

I am very supportive of inclusive trans rights.

Where there's a conflict with women's rights to sex specific spaces. What then?

Or aren't you a supporter of women's rights to things like sex segregated rape counselling / domestic violence shelters?

Actually, there are no results as it's a long term study that was only started 7 years ago

I have this. It’s lovely. I do wear a lot of green and purple anyway (always have). So they’d have needed me to strip off if they kept that sillyness up!

NeedAHoliday2021 · 16/11/2022 12:22

My old girls school uniform included a kilt which we all hated… it was suffragette colours. I wish I knew that back then.

ancientgran · 16/11/2022 12:23

I crocheted my own years ago although it is stripes rather than tartan.

Maybe I should start selling them.

lifeturnsonadime · 16/11/2022 12:24

So you will be disgusted if women who want to retain their rights in law wear suffragette colours?

Care to explain why you are fine with :
Rapists in prisons?
Children being mutilated ?
Women who have been raped forced to share spaces with people with penises and told to reframe their trauma ?
Women losing out in sport and lucrative sporting scholarships to males? Lesbians being told they are bigots for being same sex attracted?

The list goes on...

Because that is what you are supporting?

dementedma · 16/11/2022 12:24

I will be attending a dinner tomorrow in Gladgow at which Sturgeon is the keynote speaker. Will be wearing suffragette colours

lifeturnsonadime · 16/11/2022 12:24

wish there was an edit button - that should have said rapists in womens prisons.

That’s incorrect, it wasn’t her comments and behaviour. Where do you get that from?

so why did they apologise for asking her to leave for wearing the scarf if it didn't happen?

Holyrood has itself reported that this happened so please stop lying.

When did women's rights and the fighting for these get changed into a narrative of trans exclusionary? Fighting for rights is not about excluding others, unless you are trying to control the narrative and turn it into something negative.

No it was due to her scarf. You're just wrong

TheKeatingFive · 16/11/2022 12:43

To dismiss all this as a 'trans exclusionary movement' says so much about a person.

That they aren't good a grappling with complex concepts for one thing. That they enjoy taking the moral high ground on issues that they don't understand. That they're led by the mob rather than interested in genuine protection of all vulnerable parties.

Its been quite the insight into people's psyches

ArabellaScott · 16/11/2022 12:44

rbe78 · 16/11/2022 10:45

Well, the BNP probably believe they are fighting for the rights of Britons.

The suffragettes (and suffragists) were heroes who fought for the democratic liberation of over half of the country.

The gender critical movement seem more concerned with what bathroom a tiny handful of people they deem to have the wrong gentials use. I don't believe they are fighting for my (a woman's) rights in any meaningful way, and I am disgusted that they are besmirching the symbol of women's liberation.

You want to talk about toilets?

Okay. Tell me how you feel about Katie Dolatowski, who sexually assaulted a 10 year old girl, and threatened another in women's toilets ('Katie' is a 6'5" male).

Katie was then placed in a women's shelter.

Katie got convicted for accessing CSA images.

After prison, Katie took refuge in a women's shelter that housed children.

Yes, I care what 'bathroom' Katie uses.
