Excuse the daily mail link but I am absolutely raging at this

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11432097/Woman-wearing-suffragette-scarf-kicked-Scottish-parliament-gender-debate.html

ps MNHQ - tucking away discussion into its own wee sub forum doesn’t make you any better

@Venetiaparties we are here. As a Scottish woman I want to be recognised as such. I’m not ‘cis’ anything, I don’t need a subset to describe me. If trans people want a new label for themselves then they can crack on but don’t try to add a label to something that already exists and has a perfect description,

PigLightingBastard · 16/11/2022 08:44

Oh look its the actual Queen opening the Scottish parliament in 1999 wearing purple and green. She didn't get thrown out Grin

Absolutely ridiculous.

Where can I buy. Suffragette scarf
Babymamaroon · 16/11/2022 08:45

@Madcats thank you for reminding me to sign!

MightyAtlantic · 16/11/2022 08:45

Lovely as it is, that scarf in the Daily Mail article is not the scarf. The pictures are of Rachel Hamilton MSP, not the woman who was asked to leave the committee. Her stripy scarf can be seen here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-63639814

FOJN · 16/11/2022 08:48

MightyAtlantic

That looks like the scarf on the "Standing for Women" website.

LuciferRising · 16/11/2022 08:50

It's the ministry of tartan scarf I have.

Goes Google not work where you live?

Is it compulsory to post on threads you don’t like where you live? Hmm

Oh the scarf is horrible and I won't be buying that one

VeronicaBeccabunga · 16/11/2022 09:05

Seems to be out of stock at AHF store, but there are these:

Twitter might be a bit of a cesspit, bit it was certainly powerful in highlighting this ridiculous exclusion yesterday.

I'm still smiling at the "almost suffragette" parliament tartan goods for sale in their gift shop.

On an equally serious matter, can I remind people that there is a petition with just over 35,000 and needing more. Women's rights are being eroded and I worry that very few people noticing until it becomes too late.

If you google the phrase below you ought to find it:
"Update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic "sex" is biological sex".

💜💚Thanks for the info on the petition. I didn't know about it. Have now signed.

Easy to find with your Google suggestion of "Update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic "sex" is biological sex".

lifeturnsonadime · 16/11/2022 09:15

I mean this is just terrible.

How dare they throw the woman out for wearing a suffragette scarf on the basis that it is a political symbol but NOT the people wearing the rainbow trans rights colours. Women have the right to be in parliament thanks to the suffragettes.

If that's not evidence of bias in favour of removing women's rights I'm not sure what is.

And as I understand it the parliament is rejecting amendments to protect women from harm, such as putting in protections to make it harder for sex offenders to obtain a GRC and access to women's prisons etc.

If ever women need to stand up for our rights in Scotland or world wide it's now.

LookItsMeAgain · 16/11/2022 09:16

Aren't they the same colours as Wimbledon?

Interesting....

Lots of scarves, jewellery and even lanyards on Etsy.

Madcats · 16/11/2022 09:33

It's nice to get a wider audience in AIBU. I notice that the Scottish Parliament giftshop is now sold out of stoles. You have to admit that the tartan is not dissimilar (and I expect there will be a lot of it about soon). I expect there are some school uniforms in those colours, as well as Wimbledon.

Thank you to the MNers who have just signed the petition "Update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic "sex" is biological sex".

Commiserations to the Scottish MNers who seem to be about to have their rights eroded.

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 16/11/2022 09:38

Seems a good place to ask - anyone know where you can get the suffragette brollies? (and yes, I have tried Googling it already)

zen1 · 16/11/2022 09:44

The Museum of London shop has several Suffragette-related items.

rbe78 · 16/11/2022 10:00

Hang on a minute - has the 'gender critical' movement hijacked the suffragette colours?!

That is outrageous, worse than the BNP making the Union Jack synonymous with their movement.

zen1 · 16/11/2022 10:06

@rbe78 unfortunately the ‘gender queer’ flag is similar colours.

zen1 · 16/11/2022 10:07

So it seems the gender ideology movement has hijacked the Suffragette colours.

No, a women's rights movement has carried on utilising colours used by the Suffragettes who were fighting for ... wait for it ... sex-based women's rights.

Women were excluded from voting due to their sex not their gender.

lifeturnsonadime · 16/11/2022 10:15

Well gender critical people believe that SEX matters in law to protect the rights of women.

It's a women's rights movement.

The suffragette colours are entirely appropriate.

The only people who would disagree are the ones who don't believe women should have rights, so....

zen1 · 16/11/2022 10:06

@rbe78 unfortunately the ‘gender queer’ flag is similar colours.

Yeah, they don’t even have the creativity or imagination to create their own flags, just another thing they tried to steal from women.

TheOrigRights · 16/11/2022 10:38

I LOVE that demand for the scarf has gone through the roof!
