DH says this is gross

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

I have food scissors, and wash them between cutting open pizza packaging and using them on the pizza.

I use them for loads of stuff, chopping bacon, spring onions, herbs. They come apart (just two pieces that slot together for use) and go in the dishwasher so they're basically used like a knife.

Lcb123 · 11/11/2022 18:46

He’s weird. It sounds like you were cutting before cooking so that will kill germs.

Milesty1 · 11/11/2022 18:46

Once I dropped a pizza out of the buggy basket, wheeled over it, which ripped some of the plastic - it was £5 so I still cooked and ate it, and lived to tell the tale.. your DH would be horrified (I know most people would be tbf) 😂

RisingSunn · 11/11/2022 18:47

Cutting pizzas with scissors?!!

Aubree17 · 11/11/2022 18:48

The plastic had already touched the pizza right?

Clymene · 11/11/2022 18:51

I have a pizza stone if it's a good pizza. Pizza express is fine on the rack.

I only use the pizza scissors for food and they go in the dishwasher.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/11/2022 18:52

Bloody hell, it's not like you stabbed at it with the poo knife is it

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/11/2022 17:40

If your DH isn't a MNer he needs to be. He'd have an absolute ball on the competitive towel/bedding/sex organ washing threads.

🤣🤣

DillDanding · 11/11/2022 18:54

That’s freakishly anal.

Toomanysleepycats · 11/11/2022 18:55

Life’s too short. There was a tv chef once who was taken to task about hygiene by a viewer. His reply, was to ask if they wore gloves to make a sandwich.

I’ve got one of these husbands. He inspects restaurant cutlery for cleanliness, if it’s not up to scratch - he’ll clean it on his trousers. Plus he leaves his used teabags on a saucer for days, and doesn’t notice it’s growing it’s own furry ecosystem, doesn’t mind that his teaspoon sits on top of that. I’m a coffee drinker, and have my own spoon.

MarthanotMarfa · 11/11/2022 18:56

he must have been horrendous to live with during Covid! My kitchen scissors are used for everything and go in the dishwasher after cutting meat but never once considered such craziness (standards!)

Pickingmyselfup · 11/11/2022 18:56

OhmygodDont · 11/11/2022 18:43

A decent dough pizza would just melt though the rack.

Chicago Town pizzas seep through... first time I ever cooked one I had no idea, returned to the kitchen to find pizza goop all over the oven. That was a fun evening...Never had any others do it and now CT pizzas come with a tray to cook them on.

I also have been known to cut pizza with scissors even after I've used them to cut the plastic. It's fine, I've made it to 36, I'm still alive and rarely get stomach bugs.

Thelongnights · 11/11/2022 18:57

I wouldn't use a scissors to open the plastic, I just use my hands and wouldn't use one to cut it because I'm an idiot and would likely just burn myself trying to hold it (yes I could let it cool but I don't want to wait cause I'm likely a greedy cunt too who'll risk the mouth burn)

I'd use one of those rolling pizza cutter things or big knife in a pinch - but I wouldn't pass any heed if I seen someone use OP's method either - pizzas are for lazy nights so I'll forgive any lazy prep, I usually eat mine over some kitchen paper towel to avoid washing a plate 😅

omg I’ve just explained the concept of a poo knife to him and I think he’s turned green

You are going to cook the pizza (at like 240 degrees) before you eat it aren't you?

To be fair, there are many diarrhoea-inducing bacteria that are heat resistant

Gwenhwyfar · 11/11/2022 18:58

No need to buy a pizza cutter, just use a knife!

I kind of agree with him about the scissors, just because I have one pair of scissors that I use for everything so I wouldn't use them directly on food.

On the other hand, I use the same sponge for dishes and surfaces and don't care!

User963 · 11/11/2022 18:58

There are millions of bacteria on everything including the pizza cutter you get out the drawer. Things don’t stay sterile unless they are autoclaved or irradiation sealed plastic. Your gut is also full of billions of bacteria which play a very important role in pretty much everything in your body.
unless the plastic was at high risk of salmonella/campylobacteria because it was in contact with raw chicken it probably did your husband some good 😂

Moanycowbag · 11/11/2022 19:00

girlmom21 · 11/11/2022 17:47

You can cut the pizza on the plate.
People who cut pizza with scissors are disturbed.

This ^

ABJ100 · 11/11/2022 18:04

I'm with your dh. Disgusting.

😆😆😆 Don't be so utterly batshit

Oysterbabe · 11/11/2022 19:01

He's being ridiculous, I do stuff like this all the time. See also putting cheese on top of the wrapper to slice it.

Pleiades2020 · 11/11/2022 19:06

Scissors are brilliant for cutting pizza, much easier than a pizza cutter. As long as they're specific kitchen scissors of course and haven't been used for general household stuff. Just wash under the tap when done and they're easier to clean later.

Irridescantshimmmer · 11/11/2022 19:07

Just get yourself some kitchen scissors OP. Mine are a bright blue colour so its easy to distinguish between from my other scissors.

I cut wraps and homemade pasta with mine!😁

Solmum1964 · 11/11/2022 19:08

courgettigreensadwater · 11/11/2022 17:54

He's OTT. I'm a bit with stuff like that but wouldn't bother with that. I also use scissors all the time in the kitchen. Pizza, garlic bread. I cut meat with them for meals. Never chop chicken breast just snip chunks. The list goes on.

I agree with this. I always cut up meat and chicken with scissors - back into the pack it came in so saves making a chopping board dirty and much easier to get fine strips for stir fries and fajitas. Scissors go in the dishwasher after so perfectly clean for next time.

katepilar · 11/11/2022 19:09

cosypeppermint · 11/11/2022 17:49

What?! You can use a pizza cutter with the pizza on a plate!

Apart from a pizza being too big for most plates and the plate not being flat, you are damaging the cutter if cutting on a hard surface like a plate.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/11/2022 19:09

jtaeapa · 11/11/2022 18:37

I have 3 pairs of kitchen scissors that live in the cutlery drawer. Whatever they are used for (packets, food, whatever) they go into the dishwasher. So you can be confident that anything from the drawer is clean. My issue with what you did was to cut raw food and then cooked food. That’s why I gave 3 pairs. Never cut raw then cooked. Plastics can be skanky I suppose as well. Not usually but could be.

Raw pizza dough! Raw cheese! A full ten minutes apart!! Oh the horror! The absolute horror!

🙄
