DH says this is gross

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

I would have used my teeth to open the plastic 😂

Presumably OP has opened the plastic with the scissors, cooked the pizza, then used the same scissors to cut the pizza. Therefore oven heat wouldn’t help.

Still wouldn’t be an issue for most though I wouldn’t have thought.

I always use kitchen scissors for pizza.
I have chicken scissors but they are more like secateurs.
I use scissors to cut chives and Parsley.

I also cut bacon and ham with scissors.
Now I want people pizza scissors.

Well, I kind of see where there could be germs... I.e. the outside of the wrapper will have touched the scissors, and if you are doing the pizza cutting after the cooking. Personally I would have rinsed them off. But it's not "vile"! Definitely an over reaction. Not worse than drinking a can without cleaning the top (which isn't always possible). Or how about holding a bag of crisps and touching the actual crisps with the hand that touched the packet. Does he get upset about that??!

Eww, scissors to cut food 🤮 I don’t know why that’s my reaction, but ewww! I use a knife. Scissors for packaging, knife to cut the pizza.

The damn thing's going to be sterilised in the oven for goodness' sake.

if it makes you feel better my OH would have done exactly what you did and then wiped the scissors (maybe) with a dampish sponge that's being sitting on a dirty plate and then put the scissors back into their spot in in the knife block. Actually - he probably wouldn't have put them back in the block, just left them out til the next time they were needed.

I'd do this without a second thought! On the other hand,if the scissors had used to cut food such as meat or fish,I wouldn't. But I can't see the problem otherwise.

Meant to say also,the pizza is going to be cooked in a hot oven,so that would kill off any germs that may have transferred form the scissors to the pizza.

I always use scissors to cut pizza, can’t be arsing about with pizza cutters.

I cut pizza with scissors too, it’s so much easier than a pizza cutter.

I also put potato waffles in the toaster 😋

I usually give them a wipe or rinse in case they’re a bit dusty. I always use a pizza cutter though, I’ve never used scissors.

Dh puts his toe nail scissors in the cutlery drawer and thinks nothing of it 😱I wouldn't be surprised if he uses them on food as well 🤢

I wonder how the Masterchef judges would react to a skills test being carried out with the help of scissors…
