As someone who went though multiple rounds of unsuccessful IVF in my late 30s and early 40s it’s good to see this normalised in the news. It sometimes feels very isolating when you can’t have children (not least here when it’s sometimes questioned why childless women are here - I joined during ivf and have stayed for all the other non child related chats!)

So not really an AIBU but maybe a question/observation about the assumptions we make about whether a woman does/doesn’t have children.

@Ritasueandbobtoo9

I always got the impression all the adoptions from different countries were Ange’s idea and way of trying to project this woke (before that term existed) earth mother image and publicise herself that way.

All? There were three adoptions, and from two countries only. Most celeb adopters have adopted far more than only 3 and from more countries than only 2.

But lets not let logic, critical thinking and reason get in the way of misogynistic ignorance and prejudice.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 11/11/2022 07:38

Very brave of her to talk about it.

My SIL is currently going through IVF, has had her little boy with her first round but third round has sadly failed, lost 2 years treatment through covid and the hormone treatment is horrific with side effects.

With me,, I always wanted kids but only in a marriage and not as a single mum due to my mum being the only single mum I knew in 70s so lots of stigma around it and other factors.

Its very brave of Jennifer Aniston to share her struggles and yet still she gets backlash about her struggles which is so unliked. Not surprised she stayed quiet before!

Motherhood and it’s difficulties re trying to conceive, balancing work and a career with trying to conceive/be a mother is such a personal issue for lots of wornen. Yet still they face a backlash if things don’t go well etc…

And could the Jolie-Pitt talk go on another thread? It's just showbiz gossip not related to the OP.

Yes exactly!

A thread about people talking about infertility is not longer talking about it...

I always assumed she had had trouble conceiving due to what must have been a really harsh diet and exercise routine. She was incredibly thin in her Friends days - always wanted to tell her to have a pudding! I guess she must be naturally petite but she appears to have not a scrap of weight on her even now as she has got to the age where most of us have added stubborn to remove inches. I often wonder if what seems like a surrogate trend in Hollywood is down to this - women working their bodies so hard, and depriving their bodies of so much to be able to maintain their profile in the industry. This, rather than the idea that these women are refusing to ruin their bodies with pregnancy and childbirth for the sake of their aesthetics. Didn’t the Judy Garland film have scenes where she was told she belonged to the film company, for example?

As a young actress starting out, she was told to lose two stone by her agent. She did and stardom ensued. But yes, she always had to be very disciplined about it.

Whether it affected her fertility, none of us know, but the 90s were a fucking horrible time for everything body image. Heroic chic, waif look, Minimiser bras plus Wonderbras and the rise of silicone...women were supposed to look like lollipops.

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

Good lord, calm down. You realise “the police report” is simply the report that Ange made to the police at the time? That’s hardly much evidence of anything.

That wine company that he wanted is the wine company he alone set up and put effort into. That is what I’m talking about - there both rich why try to take each other’s side projects of the other?

I may be wrong and an idiot I may be right. There is no way we can know for sure.I am just speculating on some celebrity gossip with no real way to know the total truth.

But given that you are managing to consistently work “misogny” “internalised misogny” “DARVO” and “victim blaming” into your comments I think I’ll leave this alone as you don’t seem capable of reasonable or biased thinking and your comments seem quite unhinged tbh.

Um no they havent

JennyNotFromTheBlock · 11/11/2022 07:43

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:12

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

Um no it’s not a matter of record. It’s a matter of record Ange alleged it during custody battles and some courts bought it - and others didn’t.

Pitt hasn’t hurt Ange as you claimed - she hurt him by getting sick of him then trying to cut his kids out his life and being extremely petty in the divorce details considering they’re both rich

Yes, it IS a matter of public record, and court transcripts, you clearly have absolutely no idea at all, whatsoever, what you are talking about.

He hurt her by abusing their children and then being petty and filing lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit to stop her from moving on, even to the extent that he filed a lawsuit to stop her from selling her OWN SHARES in Mirval. You have it completely back to front and are misinformed.

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:43

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

That you think keeping your boyfriends blood in a necklace is “no different to having your child’s hair in a locket” really says it all

JennyNotFromTheBlock · 11/11/2022 07:44

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:14

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

None of the children can have anything to do with him, whether they “want anything to do with Pitt” or not because Angie has seen to it by pushing continuously for sole custody and trying to cut him from their lives. This is the reality.

You are making things up on the spot. At no stage has Angelina ever pushed for 'sole custody'.

It's clear you haven't even read any of the court transcripts. You're embarrassing yourself here.

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:46

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

yes the police complaint SHE made is public record and the court testimony FROM HER is public record. The “evidence” you are talking about is just things she has said which have been recorded.

And most reasonable people who were already filthy rich would sell their small shares back to a divorcing partner if those shares were in a company the other partner had set up and run and they had nothing to do with. That is clearly a matter of her trying to screw with him.

HatThatWearsYou · 11/11/2022 07:46

I stand corrected on the affair, I thought they'd been at it behind JA's back.

I think if my eyes roll any harder at@JessicaTooManyRabbits posts they may fall out of my head lol.

I apologise for helping derail the thread and will back away quietly now.

Anyone adopting a child for the ‘normal’ parenting experience is going to be very disappointed

Oh really?

My adopted DD is about to turn 18 and my experience of parenting her has been perfectly normal and rather wonderful. No trauma, no attachment disorder. A loving, trusting, kind hearted, brave girl who is absolutely "my own" child.

I would never urge an infertile woman to adopt but I hate the way some Mumsnetters talk about adopted children and how damaged they all are. It's simply not true.

I’m not saying she’s not your daughter and she’s not ‘normal’

But every single adopted child has gone through trauma. The removal of a birth parent for one. They may have been exposed to drugs, alcohol, DV in utero etc.

They likely went to foster care before being adopted so had at least 3 families and the loss associated with that.

I’m glad your daughter wasn’t affected by her experiences but it’s wrong to say she hasn’t experienced trauma.

pastafairyan · 11/11/2022 07:46

It's a good warning to younger woman that we need to prioritise a family if we want one, and can't leave it to chance or leave it until our late thirties.

If a career is more important than a family great, but oftentimes it's not and then it's too late.

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:47

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

Lol you’re embarrassing yourself by thinking Ange’s recorded proof in court and Ange’s complaint to police somehow is unbiased “proof” that Pitt is abusive. It’s her word exclusively and given during a custody battle.

JennyNotFromTheBlock · 11/11/2022 07:47

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:18

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

Christ Calm down, “victim blaming” and “DARVO” in the one post.

Neither of us know them to know for sure - you say Pitt has been trying to smear Jolie, perhaps it’s the truth and she’s trying to smear him to get custody.

You have no way of being so certain

Also Ange’s beahviour over the years is extremely odd not just youthful hijinks

Yet you act like you know Jolie because you are prejudiced, and so you are attempting to victim-blame, even by re-writing the entire narrative and disregarding actual court transcripts! Maybe you should do some more research in future before you mouth of slandering a fellow woman. Which btw, is not in spirit of this site. Btw, again, nothing she did was particularly all that odd, you are over-exaggerating. And no one gets to the position of UNHCR Special Envoy if they have a mental illness.

@Madwife123

Some adopted children may have some questions about their birth parents sure, but pretending most are really traumatised by things they can barely (if at all) remember and have issues is just false

JessicaTooManyRabbits · 11/11/2022 07:50

@JennyNotFromTheBlock

Lol not in the spirit of this side to not worship your favourite celebrity. Nice threat attempt.

Again the court transcripts are simply recording things Ange said - why are you acting like Ange’s word being recorded in a transcript is some shocking evidence that must be true?

I didn’t say they are all really traumatised. I said they have all experienced trauma which is true.

FFS Jessica and Jenny can you take your deranged celebrity gossip to another thread and stop detailing this one!

EachandEveryone · 11/11/2022 07:52

Alot of newborn adoptions are happening straight from the hospital these day. Ive noticed a big change there. Its called fostering with a view to adopt. The whole process has already happened and takes about two years. I know this because ive seen it on the increase and have spoke to the adoptive parents. I guess this is only in the cases were the mum has had previous children or is massively already known to social services.

How about you calm down with your over-the-top character assassination of Jolie? Some of what you say is so batshit crazy, in itself. The police report also contains statements from ground crew, and, two other witnesses in the area at the time. Are you saying ground crew, plus two other witnesses are lying? All because you have an obsessive hatred of Jolie and need to convince yourself you are right to hate her? Are you really going to say ground crew + two others are lying, too? Your comments are quite unhinged.

Angelina didn't want to take anything from him, on the contrary, she wanted out. You don't even know what you're talking about. Angelina wanted to give him 100% of the wine company. She wanted to cut all ties she had to him, even giving up any financial rights she had.

That you think keeping your boyfriends blood in a necklace is “no different to having your child’s hair in a locket” really says it all

@JennyNotFromTheBlock That you think keeping a lock of someone's hair is less bad than having a teeny tiny pinprick of blood, says everything about your inconsistency of argument and closed-mindedness. I think having a teeny pinprick of a blood dot is less weird than having an entire locket of hair.

Regardless, neither make someone a 'bad' or 'wild' person.

Btw, these days people have ashes of their beloved deceased dog or cat, and made into drop earrings. I bet that is far more than your mind can bare! bet you judge these people, too, as 'bad' or 'crazy' or 'troubled' people, because you fear difference.
