To ask my neighbour to take down Christmas decorations from my garden?

I came home and saw that my neighbours had decorated their house ready for Christmas.

They had put one of their Christmas decorations on my garden without checking with me first. They seemed annoyed when I (very politely) asked them to put it on their own driveway instead.

So, was I being unreasonable? It was very close to the boundary, so I thought about letting it go, but it's a long time until Christmas!

Depends what it was. A big fuck off inflatable Santa - YANBU. A candy cane path light - YABU.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/11/2022 19:16

Not unreasonable at all. If they want to decorate early, that’s fine, but it is not acceptable for them to decorate someone else’s garden.

Firefly86 · 10/11/2022 19:16

Its November. You are not unreasonable

DrWhitWho · 10/11/2022 19:17

How close to the boundary are we talking, as in a decoration on their land but crosses yours a bit? Or fully in your boundaries

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 10/11/2022 19:17

YANBU. Your land, your happy lack.of Christmas in fucking November.

darisdet · 10/11/2022 19:18

Of course it's not unreasonable to ask them to move it. Though what was it?

ofwarren · 10/11/2022 19:19

Is it on your driveway or on their land but 'near the boundary'?

Onlyforcake · 10/11/2022 19:20

It's entirely reasonable to expect your neighbours to use their own garden / land for their own decorations

Needaholidaypronto · 10/11/2022 19:20

Bloody November. Xmas decks can get in the bin 😫

FourChimneys · 10/11/2022 19:21

Tell them to remove it. It's your property and it is several weeks too early anyway.

EuripidesEumenides · 10/11/2022 19:24

Hard to say whether it's worth the fuss without more description or maybe a pic.

Definitely my land. It was a decoration on a stake, pushed into in my flower bed, which borders their driveway.

Then you are right to tell them to remove it.
Cheeky beggars.

Literally cannot comment due to the lack of a diagram Grin

Bit cheeky. Would annoy me but I’d either let it slide or just move it to their side

UnaLength · 10/11/2022 19:29

YANBU. It's too sodding early for decorations. People have lost their minds this year, it's November!

Tessabelle74 · 10/11/2022 19:30

Grinch, is that you?

Alexandernevermind · 10/11/2022 19:31

I'm also a bit grinchy about garden Christmas decorations. A few lights on the house and a wreath, even a Christmas tree in the garden looks lovely, but decorations on stakes are a no from me.

Lots of people decorate in November, it even turns into a yearly debate!

YANBU to have asked them to move it as it was on your land but personally it wouldn’t have bothered me in the slightest!

PurpleButterflyWings · 10/11/2022 19:33

Your next door neighbour put THEIR Christmas decoration (presumably a large one,) in your garden? Confused WHY? Confused

paleviolet · 10/11/2022 19:35

Bah humbug

Yes, decorations/trees usually go up at the start of advent which is in November.

Cats23 · 10/11/2022 19:42

CF!
I would've asked them to remove it too

carefulcalculator · 10/11/2022 19:46

YANBU, it is your garden. This is obvious, I would never put something in my neighbour's garden.
