To ask my neighbour to take down Christmas decorations from my garden?

MotherofGrinches · 10/11/2022 19:14

I came home and saw that my neighbours had decorated their house ready for Christmas.

They had put one of their Christmas decorations on my garden without checking with me first. They seemed annoyed when I (very politely) asked them to put it on their own driveway instead.

So, was I being unreasonable? It was very close to the boundary, so I thought about letting it go, but it's a long time until Christmas!

Literally cannot comment due to the lack of a diagram Grin

I was going to ask for a photo Blush

keeprunning55 · 10/11/2022 19:55

Was it causing damage? I understand if it was tearing through you roses, but if not, then I don’t see the harm.

SuperCamp · 10/11/2022 19:57

Its November. You are not unreasonable

The month has nothing to do with it. Yanbu. But picture or it didn't happen.

butterpuffed · 10/11/2022 20:01

What is the decoration and is it large or small ?

notmyrealmoniker · 10/11/2022 20:07

Are you the grinch?

Cancelledtwiceover · 10/11/2022 20:08

I think your user name is very apt.
I really couldn't get worked up over something so minor, its borders their driveway, you could have just moved it over a touch if it was bothering you so much, I wouldn't want to risk falling out with my neighbours over something so trivial.

stuntbubbles · 10/11/2022 20:08

Put some Easter decorations in theirs.

What LadyMonica said.

Snugglemonkey · 10/11/2022 20:17

I think it is a bit grinchy tbh. I definitely would not mention it to the neighbours. Why couldn't you just move it over a bit? It is hard to picture how much of an infringement it is without a photo or diagram tbh, but it doesn't seem like much to be fussing about.

Mydpisgrumpierthanyours · 10/11/2022 20:17

Ide be more bothered about them putting it there in November. Tell them you have your own xmas decorations to put up. When it gets near to xmas.

LucyLastikk · 10/11/2022 20:18

I've still got summer bedding in pots in my front garden...

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 10/11/2022 20:19

YANBU I would've moved it over. Do you think they were being passive-aggressive? It seems weird to stick it on your side and not their own.

I can’t believe some of the replies on here, accusing OP of being a misery!
Her CF neighbours have invaded her property, transgressed her boundary and stuck their tacky Christmas shit in her garden. In November, to add to the insult - before even Advent has started.
OP, pull the wretched thing out and throw it back over the fence onto their lawn. And tell them not to trespass on your property again.

funrunning · 10/11/2022 20:23

Absolutely no way, not even on 24 December. If they are the sort of people to put up Christmas decorations in the garden in early November, I am guessing it was incredibly tacky as well.

I shall own being a snob on that one.

I always wonder this but what does advent have to do with it? Why can’t decs go up before then? Christmas isn’t a Christian holiday for a lot of people, the traditions were around long before the Christians made their own winter festival. We celebrate Christmas but it resembles it’s pagan roots in our house, we usually start decorating around this time as we just love the magic of it all!

‘Invaded her property’, ‘transgressed her boundary’. Fucking hell, dramatic much????

Justcallmebebes · 10/11/2022 20:34

I'd have burnt it. I hate this habit of bringing Christmas into November. I love Christmas, at Christmas time 🎄

VestaTilley · 10/11/2022 20:35

YANBU. Firstly, they were out of order putting their stuff on your drive without permission, secondly it’s NOVEMBER.

VestaTilley · 10/11/2022 20:36
