To ask my neighbour to take down Christmas decorations from my garden?

MotherofGrinches · 10/11/2022 19:14

I came home and saw that my neighbours had decorated their house ready for Christmas.

They had put one of their Christmas decorations on my garden without checking with me first. They seemed annoyed when I (very politely) asked them to put it on their own driveway instead.

So, was I being unreasonable? It was very close to the boundary, so I thought about letting it go, but it's a long time until Christmas!

Grinch, is that you?

I wish there was a 'like' button!

‘Invaded her property’, ‘transgressed her boundary’. Fucking hell, dramatic much????

Someone sticking their tacky plastic glittery Christmas Poundland shite in my beautiful flowerbed would bring out my dramatics! Perhaps not “log it with 101” level but certainly a “fling it at their fucking car” level of rage. And it’s the 10th of November! I’m grinding my teeth just thinking about it!

Crikee · 10/11/2022 20:41

😂

Melonapplepear · 10/11/2022 20:42

I can't imagine caring but it is odd why not put it in their own garden

kingtamponthefurred · 10/11/2022 20:42

Set fire to it and say you thought it was a Bonfire Night decoration.

ChickinBell · 10/11/2022 20:42

Pah, I really don't care what you think @Perfectpeace , you are clearly on a wind up

I can’t even think about Xmas in mid November.

But OP hasn’t said what it is, you don’t know it’s tacky crap or where it is? I’m imaging it’s on the very edge of a flowerbed or the likes, right on the boundary. Not a 20ft ‘Stop Here’ sign right outside OPs front door.

I think she’s made a drama out of nothing but like others I need a picture or it didn’t happen.

stuntbubbles · 10/11/2022 20:45

There are literally no outdoor Christmas decorations that aren’t tacky.

Crikee · 10/11/2022 20:45

YANBU I just am so confused as to why the decoration had to go in your flower bed? Why? 😂some people eh?

Then stop replying to me! Not on a wind up, just haven’t got the energy or deep-seated misery to be bothered by something so harmless and trivial.

Fair enough. I personally don’t decorate the outside of my home as it’s not to my taste but I wouldn’t go so far as to berate a neighbour for doing so. Even if they borrowed a millimetre of my flowerbed

MayThe4th · 10/11/2022 20:47

OP the comments on this thread don’t reflect the pole at all. Ergo, you are not being unreasonable by a vast majority.

Christmas decorations outside are tacky anyway but they had absolutely no right to put any of them in your garden, and even less right to be pissed off when you asked them to move it.

I would tell them it needs to be gone by the morning.

And if they haven’t removed it by then I would bin it. People can put whatever tacky crap they like in their own gardens. I wouldn’t want any of it in mine. And once the decoration is on my property it’s essentially mine to do with as I please, unless they remove it.

Yes, decorations/trees usually go up at the start of advent which is in November.

What are you talking about?
"Advent" traditionally refers to the 4 Sundays leading up to Christmas, and this year's first Advent Sunday isn't until 27th November. (In 2023 it falls on 3rd December).
You might be familiar with advent calendars - which start on 1st December?

It is way too early for Xmas decorations!

Some people are still celebrating Staunchmas after all...
( the wierd uber-patriotic decorations being put up for Remembrance Sunday)

It’s a Christmas decoration outside. Ergo, it is tacky. They all are.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 10/11/2022 20:50

I'm wondering if it's a mistake
Is the boundary a bit ambiguous?

Otherwise it's definitely an odd thing to do.

Sounds a bit grinchy

ImAvingOops · 10/11/2022 20:53

I dispute that all outside decorations are tacky - nothing wrong with fairy lights or pretty lights in garden trees.

In your opinion. Don’t be so arrogant as to state your opinion as fact.

Yes, or a nice wreath hanging on the door.

stuntbubbles · 10/11/2022 20:55

I checked in Debrett’s and a Christmas decoration on a stake shoved in your neighbour’s flowerbed is definitely tacky as fuck.

3peassuit · 10/11/2022 20:56

Way too early and your land. CFers.
