Boy George on I'm a celebrity

It seems this has outraged a lot of people due to his previous conviction of false imprisonment.
I am aware that Gino D'Acampo spent 2 years in prison for a burglary on Paul Young's home, yet he's very popular, also appeared on and won the show in 2009, and people seem to have forgotten his crime.

I didn't actually realise the victim was a sex worker, that does throw a different slant on the situation and I think pp are probably right in that case that a female sex worker would've been treated the same or worse more than likely. Disgusting behavior by BG either way.

Have you actually read the story of why he did it or are you just faux outraged because it looks good to be morally upstanding?

pastabakeonaplate · 06/11/2022 10:10

Imagine being the victim and seeing him on the TV in any context other than a crime documentary.

knittingaddict · 06/11/2022 10:11

catandcoffee · 06/11/2022 09:11

I lost any sympathy for the victim when he sprouted " if I was a women " crap.
(it's not a bloody competition )

You lost sympathy for the victim? In what context did he say "if I was a woman"?

It sounds like you won't support a victim because he didn't have the "right" attitude or something.

You sound a bit silly.

tiggergoesbounce · 06/11/2022 10:13

there is deserving a chance to lead a normal life after doing time for a crime, and then there is deserving a chance to be held in high regard and paid a fortune on a tv show watched by millions. The number of views on the iacgmooh youtube channel is staggering

Absolutely, but you cant just single one person out for that.
It was awful what he did, he did his punishment. He may be a vile individual, but so have many others who been who have been on it, and are on it this year.

Why is Ant presenting it then ? he put himself and others in a position of real danger, only luck prevented him from killing someone. Drink/drug driving is abhorrent, its opening up danger or death to anyone who crosses your path .

It has to be either no criminals at all or criminals.

No different to people who have no sympathy for victims who were wearing the ‘wrong’ outfit, or out at the ‘wrong’ time, or walking / running in the ‘wrong’ neighbourhood.

imagine blaming a victim because they were angry the criminal is being fawned over.

Cameleongirl · 06/11/2022 10:17

I’m on the fence with this. On one hand, his crime was shocking and he deserved to go to prison for it; on the other hand, I think it’s somewhat positive to see a celebrity serve their time and then completely turn their life around. He’s very different to those who slither out of consequences time after time, as he admits he did wrong (in interviews) and deserved to go to prison.

So I’m on the fence-horrible crime, but he learnt from it.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 10:19

paid a fortune on a tv show watched by millions

He’s worth about 43 million pounds so I don’t imagine he’s after the money TBF. Maybe the ‘watched by millions’ is his attraction to it.

I read about it at the time, I was sure he was BG's boyfriend. I made a mistake, I'm not faux anything.

Luckydip1 · 06/11/2022 10:29

It's disgusting what he did, he shouldn't be allowed back on TV, what a creep.

longwayoff · 06/11/2022 10:29

Gino Da Campo is an Italian. Born in Italy. Obnoxious as he may be, his accent is his own. Few of us struggle to speak our native language and if pp's Italian husband finds it inauthentic then that's very odd.

He’s been doing The Voice for years here and in Australia so the stable door is open in that respect.

Luckydip1 · 06/11/2022 10:31

Just because he was on the Voice doesn't make it ok.

Luckydip1 · 06/11/2022 10:34

Look at Michael Barrymore, he has never been welcomed back to TV after the death of that boy at his home, so why are we welcoming BG back?

FortunesFavour · 06/11/2022 10:35

It’s grim. I’ve been a fan of IAC for many years, but with Hancock on this year together with the completely overlooked violent crimes committed by Boy George, I can’t be bothered to watch it any more.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 10:36

Luckydip1 · 06/11/2022 10:31

What I wondered was that people think that going into the jungle is the first TV thing he’s done since getting out of jail. 🤷‍♀️

CredibilityProblem · 06/11/2022 10:36

Actually I think BG's slot on the Voice was much more of a problem than IACGMOOH. Casting someone as a talent-show judge is in a way an endorsement of them as a person, whereas the celebs on IACGMOOH are often shown as marmite/flawed/ monstrous characters, who we aren't being invited to regard as role models.

Scautish · 06/11/2022 10:36

Get out of bed in the wrong side t

CornishGem1975 · 06/11/2022 10:36

I completely forgot about this with Boy George until I saw a headline earlier but he's been to prison, and isn't prison about reformation and rehabilitation? He's done his time, people should be allowed to move on.

We're not crucifying Ant McPartlin, he's all over prime time TV and yes, he'll be on I'm a Celeb and he's someone who should have gone to prison. Never understood why he got off so lightly, he's probably got some dirt on Schofe.

I guess he knows his way around the music industry which is why he ended up on The Voice. Not sure he does that any more though.

ProFannyTea · 06/11/2022 10:08

But it wasn't so let's stick to the actual point. I bet you're one of these people who wails 'what if it was a child' when a dog bites another dog.

Get out of bed on the wrong side, dear??

what an overreaction!

so calm down, take a deep breath and perhaps start your day over again?

(and I have a beautiful dog, who is fabulous with children, but as a responsible dog owner I’d never leave him unattended in the company of children. He has bitten another dog - because the other dog bit him. Still know he’s not a risk to kids)

pastabakeonaplate · 06/11/2022 09:01

Not sure why but the BBC seem to like him

The BBC have championed dodgy men for ever. One particular one springs to mind...

PurpleButterflyWings · 06/11/2022 10:46

Agree it's daft. You can't hold something against someone forever FGS. Quite a few stars have had convictions for things in the past. Mark Wahlberg, Leslie Grantham, Matthew Broderick, Vanilla Ice, Snoop Dog, Justin Bieber, Tim Allen, Christian Slater, Sean Penn, etc etc etc, and yet they continued to work and live a 'normal' life.

People should be allowed to move on.

PurpleButterflyWings · 06/11/2022 10:54

mycatisannoying · 06/11/2022 09:09

Look at Cheryl Cole (or whatever her name is) ... she was hardly out of work since her attack on a lavatory attendant.
I don't understand it personally.

FFS, that was TWENTY YEARS ago, she was a teenager, and she took her punishment. Get a grip. Hmm

I sincerely hope some of the posters here are never on a jury!

Once a sex pervert, always a sex pervert. 15 months was too light a sentence.

And shame on you OP for minimising male sexual assaults.

I saw he opened a TikTok account and omg the fawning over him.
