Boy George on I'm a celebrity

It seems this has outraged a lot of people due to his previous conviction of false imprisonment.
I am aware that Gino D'Acampo spent 2 years in prison for a burglary on Paul Young's home, yet he's very popular, also appeared on and won the show in 2009, and people seem to have forgotten his crime.

I lost any sympathy for the victim when he sprouted " if I was a women " crap.
(it's not a bloody competition )

Why?

Theluggage15 · 06/11/2022 09:14

Well Ant’s a convicted drink driver, he just won yet another award. Katie Price had a documentary on Channel 4 recently and she has half a dozen drink driving offences, a restraining order against her.

I find it easier to forgive someone who was very young and stupid and committed a burglary (Gino) - even though that’s still awful- than someone who physically assaulted someone (George). I would imagine being tied to a radiator and being hit with something was absolutely terrifying. The poor man didn’t know if he was getting out of there alive. And George was in his 40s and the man was 20 something. Horrible. He must have been terrified. George should not be on the programme and should have spent longer in prison.

I don’t think you can compare drug addiction with being young and stupid TBH.

Threadkillacilla · 06/11/2022 09:15

I don't think it would have made much difference if it had been a female sex worker. I think the wrong kind of victim relates to the profession not sex.

OneFrenchEgg · 06/11/2022 09:15

The whole programme is fucking weird. I judge anyone who will eat insects or kangaroo bollocks, or squash a load of insects in a bid to crawl through some shit, just to perpetuate or engage their 'fame'.

Are you trying to excuse George’s behaviour by saying he was a drug addict?

Yep. Disgusting isn’t it.

I think BG is a strict vegan so not sure what he’ll be eating TBH.

Crookshanks22 · 06/11/2022 09:18

I'm more disgusted that Ant is presenting after his drink drive fiasco. Truly awful.

IntegrityisDead · 06/11/2022 09:18

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor it's a bizarre point!!

If it had been a woman he would have probably not even been charged on the basis that 'she asked him to do it'! Or 'his word against hers' or 'she let me do it before'.

Unless that only applies if you're a woman being strangled... FFS

RedRiverShore2 · 06/11/2022 09:18

Maybe Hancock can do all the eating ones because of his feet and BG can do the dirty wet trials

ElmoNeedsThePotty · 06/11/2022 09:21

@pastabakeonaplate Eh? You don't have to be in the USA to watch American TV showsConfused

Utterly pointless comment.

MossGrowsFat · 06/11/2022 09:21

It fascinates/bewilders me why some people can come back from crime and others can't.

Who is the power behind it?

Coronationchicken31 · 06/11/2022 09:24

Very true I had forgotten about Cheryl, Ant, Katie Price...

He's still contributing to the making of it, no pass here. Im glad PETA are keeping up their pressure, wonder how he reconciled the injury to animals and insects with his beliefs then.

VioletLemon · 06/11/2022 09:25

I get the feeling he knows something about someone to keep getting so. Much work. He seems narcissistic and he didn't commit the crime while in the grips of drug addiction.

RedRiverShore2 · 06/11/2022 09:25

If you have money/national treasure you can do what you want

Abraxan · 06/11/2022 09:26

Whilst burglary is a horrible crime and it can be very upsetting to the victim I don't believe it is anywhere near as bad as imprisoning and beating a much younger and more vulnerable person!

Gino was a much younger man at the time, 20/21 ish, served time and publicly apologised to the victim of his crime, who accepted this. Fortunately most of the items stolen were also retrieved. He has publicly spoken about the crime, expressed regret, and hasn't suggested that it was the victims own fault that it happened.

Boy George was in his mid 40s at the time and he imprisoned AND beat a younger male escort. He didn't plead guilty and infact suggested that the red welts from beating the main with a metal chain were caused by people his positive instead. He was more bothered that the conviction would prevent him from being able to perform in certain countries around the world at the time. He has also had other brushes with the law regarding drugs possession and falsely reporting a burglary for example.

So whilst both have committed and served prison time for their crimes I do believe one of those crimes is far worse than the other tbh.

But it’s true

If this was a crime against a woman boy George wouldn’t be in the jungle.

Crimes like this against men are often not deemed to be as horrific and therefore people can move on after being released.

HarryHandedBallerina · 06/11/2022 09:27

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/11/2022 09:12

Really, why? It's a very fair point.

It's actually not a fair point. Though personally I would never not feel sympathy for a victim!

Mike Tyson raped women, abused women, violently assaulted people and has still been in Hollywood movies, been interviewed, and most fucked up I think, played a sexual assault victim on a famous TV series that deals with sexual abuse.

Chris Brown beat the shit out of Rhianna still doing just fine with his career.

And in fact, I can think of dozens of men who have been known to sexually abuse or assault women who've gone on to have lovely long careers

LargeHadronCollidHER · 06/11/2022 09:28

Georgeskitchen · 06/11/2022 08:57

I've always been a fan of Boy George. He did stupid things in the grip of drug addiction. He paid his dues. He's free of addiction and hasn't reoffended.
Don't people deserve a second chance?

You consider chaining someone to a radiator and beating them as ‘stupid things’?

cravingmilkshake · 06/11/2022 09:28

Ant still hosts the show 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whilst drink driving is awful, I still don't believe it is as bad as imprisoning, chaining up and beating up if a younger, more vulnerable man,

The man was in fear of his life and is probably left traumatised years later.

Minimalme · 06/11/2022 09:30

I honestly don't know why anyone watches this sort of shit anyway.

I am sick, sick, sick of watching shows about celebrities being themselves.

I want tv budgets to go into making more drama and stuff that is actually interesting.

Also, I genuinely don't want to listen to very rich people atm, while many are struggling to hear they homes and afford food, and migrants die on a dingy or stuffed into a lorry like animals.

KatherineJaneway · 06/11/2022 09:31

Coronationchicken31 · 06/11/2022 08:27

Yeah exactly, the conviction was 15 years ago and he's had plenty of work since then so I don't understand why suddenly now

I suspect many people have forgotten about this crime, I certainly had.
