Boy George on I'm a celebrity

It seems this has outraged a lot of people due to his previous conviction of false imprisonment.
I am aware that Gino D'Acampo spent 2 years in prison for a burglary on Paul Young's home, yet he's very popular, also appeared on and won the show in 2009, and people seem to have forgotten his crime.

And the BBC are still taking Ashley Williams to Qatar for the football World Cup commentary even though he’s been charged by the FA for assaulting a coach at an under 12s football match.

When there are so many people who haven’t been charged or convicted of anything, why choose the few who have? I find it bizarre.

CathyorClaire · 06/11/2022 09:33

Convicted crims reinventing themselves on TV is nothing new.

Leslie Grantham attained national treasure status as Dirty Den after a murder conviction and jail. He was finally sacked over a sex scandal after decades of being lauded.

tiggergoesbounce · 06/11/2022 09:33

Of course its awful what Boy George did, he was in the throws of addiction and you do things you would never dream of doing without the substances in your body altering your personality and behaviour.

Katie price is a repeat offender of this putting others lives in danger, Cheryl tweedy abused a woman and gino commited a horrible crime invading someones home, the one place they should feel safe. They all still work.

Im more outraged about Matt Hancock.

this is my biggest annoyance throughout this thread

can you honestly not understand that chaining someone up and beating them repeatedly is so, so much worse than slapping someone on a night out, drunk/drug driving and breaking into someone’s home?

Like honestly, some of you need to gather up all the grips and share them round

HarryHandedBallerina · 06/11/2022 09:35

A large percentage of sexual assault happens when the criminal is under the influence.

I certainly don't want to go down the path of excusing then because of that fact and if we do we should just get rid of drink driving laws as the drunk person cannot help themselves

pastabakeonaplate · 06/11/2022 09:37

ElmoNeedsThePotty · 06/11/2022 09:21

@pastabakeonaplate Eh? You don't have to be in the USA to watch American TV showsConfused

Utterly pointless comment.

Fair point. Basically I had no idea he was on the US apprentice and if I had then yes I would have felt the same outrage

LargeHadronCollidHER · 06/11/2022 09:27

But it’s true

If this was a crime against a woman boy George wouldn’t be in the jungle.

Crimes like this against men are often not deemed to be as horrific and therefore people can move on after being released.

It’s not true though - it’s not a fact, it’s something you believe might have happened.

If it was a crime against a woman he probably wouldn't have served any time

It’s a basic fact

I’m sorry you struggle with those

Exactly.

I have had friends who have died from heroin overdoses. I have - when I was much younger- been in circles where addiction is a very serious issue.

Assaulting someone cannot be excused by addiction.

Would you excuse a rapist because they were high??

wtf is wrong with people. 🙄

purfectpuss · 06/11/2022 09:40

I guess it's the nature of the crime that is upsetting. Burglary is one thing, but physical and sexual assault are totally different. I don't know why people like him so much- he has a history of saying quite nasty things about other celebrities- I've remember how he tried to out George Michael back in the day.

It isn’t a fact. You can’t prove something that might have happened in a parallel universe. I’m sorry you’re struggling with that.

Montague22 · 06/11/2022 09:41

He shouldn’t be on it. It’s not a crime you can serve time for and be forgiven for in my eyes. There’s no way I would watch it.

LargeHadronCollidHER · 06/11/2022 09:39

A fact is something that is objectively true and can be proven.

I can point you in the direction of many many men who still have careers despite attacking women. So no, it is not a fact.

pastabakeonaplate · 06/11/2022 09:01

Not sure why but the BBC seem to like him

Because the BBC are currently pushing the trans ideology

tiggergoesbounce · 06/11/2022 09:44

this is my biggest annoyance throughout this thread

What, people having different views to you.

can you honestly not understand that chaining someone up and beating them repeatedly is so, so much worse than slapping someone on a night out, drunk/drug driving and breaking into someone’s home?

Drink or drug driving is putting others in a position of danger, a complete disregard and the potential to kill someone, so yes it is bad, they were just lucky they didn't actually kill anyone, so their outcomes could have actually been far worse had luck not been on their side

Yes i said it was awful, but he was a drug addict on drugs. Hes now clean, so IMO deserves a chance to be on there.

Katie price has repeatedly shown a disregard and lack of respect for others safety and the law., she has a show on TV all about her ?

Like honestly, some of you need to gather up all the grips and share them round

Or we can just be ok with our opinions 🤷

Coronationchicken31 · 06/11/2022 09:47

Breaking into someone's house is terrible too, maybe the victim felt threatened for his life when Gino broke into his home. Drink driving could have killed someone too. And 20s is still old enough to make a conscious decision

It fascinates/bewilders me why some people can come back from crime and others can't.

Who is the power behind it?

They have very expensive PR and management teams behind them. They do the work to ‘tilt’ the image, or even to completely reinvent it.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 06/11/2022 09:52

Wasn't Gino D'Campo's victim the singer Paul Young?

I can't stand to watch anything D'Campo is on, his fake accent really grates. DH is Italian and laughs at GD's ridiculous attempts to be Italian.

purfectpuss · 06/11/2022 09:53

Because the BBC are currently pushing the trans ideology

But George isn't trans, and he doesn't even really cross dress. Thank God! At least he is just a plain old camp gay man and owns that- let's hope he keeps it that way- it's one of the only things he has going for him.

I'm more disgusted that Ant is presenting after his drink drive fiasco. Truly awful.

This. I saw so many people have sympathy for him. It wasn't a one off. It wasn't accidental. I do not get the national obsession with the ant and dec duo tbh. Especially not after this.

LakieLady · 06/11/2022 10:01

mycatisannoying · 06/11/2022 09:07

I don't like him. He gives off James Corden attention seeking vibes.

You hit the spot there, @mycatisannoying , I've never been keen on him but couldn't quite work out why.

The list of people who have me reaching for the remote the minute they appear on tv is getting ever longer. I think I'm turning into a misanthrope.

I don't think it would have made much difference if it had been a female sex worker. I think the wrong kind of victim relates to the profession not sex.

I didn't actually realise the victim was a sex worker, that does throw a different slant on the situation and I think pp are probably right in that case that a female sex worker would've been treated the same or worse more than likely. Disgusting behavior by BG either way.

JulesCobb · 06/11/2022 10:02

Yes i said it was awful, but he was a drug addict on drugs. Hes now clean, so IMO deserves a chance to be on there.

there is deserving a chance to lead a normal life after doing time for a crime, and then there is deserving a chance to be held in high regard and paid a fortune on a tv show watched by millions. The number of views on the iacgmooh youtube channel is staggering.

I wonder if you’d feel differently about him if it had been a female he’s kept imprisoned?

I think it’s a mistake to allow him on the show.

But it wasn't so let's stick to the actual point. I bet you're one of these people who wails 'what if it was a child' when a dog bites another dog.
