To be gobsmacked for being told off for picking up after my dog??

So this happened today. Out walking my dog, minding my own business. He decides he needs a poo so I stand next to him rifling in my pocket for a poo bag. A woman comes out of her house and walks towards her car. Stops dead in her tracks and glares at me. I say tentatively... hello? She says 'I would like to know what you're doing?' I reply.. well I'm just about to clean up after my dog. She replies'well I should think so!!' I was.. like.. well yep.. there you go! That's what I'm doing 🤷‍♀️She then says... don't even THINK about putting it in my bin!! I said I have absolutely no intention of putting it in your bin.. I have my own bin thanks!! Turning to pick up his poo.. she carries on. I can't believe you're just standing there, waiting for him to finish!! I snapped at this point and said what the hell is wrong with you?? What do you want me to do drag him down the street mid poo?? She then got in her car and shot off at about 60 mph! I mean come on! I've heard of dog owners being told off for leaving their dogs mess... but I still can't get my head around this!!! ( btw he is a very small dog and his poo is like raisins! I always pick up, even I think no one would even notice it.) AIBU to think the woman was absolutely crackers??

@Bookworm20 where did I say he was pooing in someone's garden?

Here: no not her house the house next door. And not on a path, driveway or any major route into the house.

Sounded like it was on the grass of the house next door.

Before I had a dog I (no idea why) thought you could train a dog to go in a specific place and if I saw a dog in the street “randomly”pooing I probably would have done a very passive aggressive tut.

You can 😎

Before it was a "thing" to pick up poo we trained our dogs to go in the gutter between cars. Late 80's, London, you would see well trained dogs doing this. The theory was it all got washed down the drain. I had one old dog who would ONLY go to the loo in the gutter, which made life difficult once we were asked to pick up instead.

The biggest poo problem, even in London at that time, was from latch key dogs who were let out in the morning and went home at tea time.

To be honest it is pretty repulsive seeing a dog shitting on the pavement, where people walk. Can't you take the dog to a woodland or your back garden?

Unfortunately when a dog needs to shit the dog will shit where standing… kind of nature of the beast.. and yes sometimes there is nothing you can do other than dragging said dog mid shit…
🤔 I do wonder if you would like to be dragged by a collar around your neck mid shit… I would think not.. like your bowl movements other are not in control of your body… thust you will shit your brains out when needed not when someone says you now can.. 🤦‍♀️

Anyone who has tried to move a dog which is defecating will find that all they do is leave a trail of poo along a stretch of ground. Dogs' can't stop halfway any more than most people can. Once that peristaltic motion has started it is automatic and continues.

Seriously, the picking-up-poo bit is what puts me off having a dog. I hate it. I hate when I see a dog pooping. I look away immediately but the thought stays with me and makes me feel sick. I like animals but I have absolutely no desire to keep them as pets. I’ve had enough poo contact with my own baby humans. And then the dog goes and sits on your sofa or whatever. Yuk.

Was it you? Only joking….
Seriously though not everyone lives near woods or has a garden.

Some people like to look for a fight.
It probably made her feel big and clever for a second.

Exactly this.

I had something very similar happen to me a few years ago.I was walking past a block of flats with our dog(carrying a bag of poo),when a woman who'd come outside for a smoke asked me if I was looking for a bin.

She then asked me what I intended to do if I couldn't find a bin before going on a rant about how her husband would be arrested if he urinated in the street.

I told her to fuck ofrf.

LindaMo2 · 01/11/2022 18:34

Yes, clearly she is.

Annemaria · 01/11/2022 18:38

If you have had dogs with diarrhoea crapping outside your house and the mess is walked into your carpets by children you would understand why people get upset. In France people drag their dogs into the gutter to crap.

Friendofdennis · 01/11/2022 18:39

She’s mad. You were just doing the normal waiting for your dog to finish thing. Some people are so intolerant about dogs. I once took my dog for a walk up a lane near my home and a man from a nearby house followed me up the lane and stood there with his arms folded blocking my exit He then accused me of allowing my dog to poo on the floor ( he was just sniffing and exploring ) I produced a doggie bag and said ‘I always pick up after my dog’ and he said ‘well you are just going to throw it in the hedge’ all the time stopping me from getting out from the lane When I told him to stop talking to me in a threatening way his daughter then came along and started filming me. I should have set my dog on him.

Mumkins42 · 01/11/2022 18:40

Slap her round the face with the poo bag like a wet kipper?

It's easy to say on the outside but this is nothing to do with you. Something has gone down and this woman has lost it either related to ongoing signature issues or personal stresses. Or she's just nuts. Something to laugh about

WhatJustHappened321 · 01/11/2022 18:41

I think picking up dog poo isn't particularly pleasant but a necessary evil I suppose, like many things in life. Like I said he's a small dog and he does poos to match. He is extremely easy to pick up after and he is my little buddy who kept me company during lockdown so it really is the least I can do. For those of you saying she's obviously sick and tired of dogs leaving a mess near/around/in front of her house.. that doesn't mean she can take it out on me. It's like saying I can have road rage with x person because I got cut up on the motorway ( for example!) by a load of other people.

Has anyone told the Parisians?

You do know it's an animal with free will over its poo-ing motions don't you? Confused

WhatJustHappened321 · 01/11/2022 18:43

@Annemaria my dog has literally never done that?!

OP posts:
LindaMo2 · 01/11/2022 18:43

No one is forced to have a dog. However, if you choose to, clearing up after it is part of responsible dog ownership. They don’t wear nappies so you can’t just deal it when convenient. If you can’t cope with that, get a cat and then if you are irresponsible you can let it sh1t in all your neighbours gardens with no comeback on you. You clearly suit lazy pet ownership.

greenstrawberries · 01/11/2022 18:43

I live directly opposite woodland but I still have to cross two pavements to get there, where she might possibly take a shit. She's an animal, not a robot. Her bowels do not work on cue and she can't stop in mid-flow.
